Hi all!

I am hoping to take a sisters trip to the D23 expo next year (my first time). Starting to budget so I can know what finds I have to allocate. What hotels would you recommend for the expo? I hope to go to the park at night if not too exhausted :) any suggestions?

Thanks!
Charlotte

You're going to love the Expo! I'm already looking forward to 2017!

I stayed at Red Lion Anaheim for the Expo (and I'm staying again for a DL trip in June). At the time it was $99 for the 2015 D23 Expo (looking at my old confirmation email). In June, its $115 a night with an AP discount.

If I remember correctly, D23 will offer hotel discounts but I'm not sure what percent off it was ($99 a night is a bit lower than typical Red Lion rate, so I would guess 15-20%). I also booked extremely early -- a full year out before the Expo.

Red Lion was a great hotel and is quite close to the convention center. I stayed in the Anabella last weekend and its on the same square block as the convention center, but I didn't investigate how the access between the hotel and the convention center looked.

The closest and nice$t :) is the Hilton Anaheim.

More cost effective is the Candy Cane Inn (CCI).

I have stayed at both for D23 Expo.

Another option is Anabella but it is kind of far from DLR. CCI is closer and has a shuttle.

The best hotel to stay at is the Hilton Anaheim. It's literally across the walkway from the convention center. So great if you need to drop stuff off, want to take a break, or get there really early to line up. I'm already so excited to book it for 2017.

If you're on a budget, we stay at the Best Western Stovall's Inn (across the street from the Anabella). It's clean, easy and includes a basic breakfast. It's half a block away from the convention center and about the same distance to walk to the Disneyland Hotel (we love going to Trader Sam's for cocktails after the convention, and have even run into Disney Legends there). The hotel is on the paid shuttle route for easy transit to the Parks main entrance, or you can hoof it by walking to the Grand Californian Hotel and shortcutting through their lobby.

Thanks for the suggestions. Stovalls is getting me a quote as people are already reserving rooms! They do start early :)

I may be heading to the Expo this summer. All was set in my mind until my husband mentioned that he and the 21 year old son and 17 year old DD might want to come to and go to Disneyland while I'm at the Expo since its my birthday that weekend and they don't want me to be alone.

This changed up my hotel choice since they won't fit in the room. Now I'm looking at the Springhill Suites at 1801 South Harbor or the Hyatt Place at 2035 South Harbor.

I'm trying to decide which would put me closer to the Convention Center since I'm planning on walking and yet still be easy for them to go to Disneyland. Price isn't the biggest issue but space is - we need 3 sleeping spaces and I'm ok with putting one of them on a sleeper sofa so my new choices would work from that perspective.
Plus if they change their mind and don't come, I'd need a place where I'd feel safe walking to the Expo alone and maybe an evening at DTD or Disneyland.

What all do you think? Which hotel would be closer to the convention center and easy for Disneyland?

Other choices include the new three Hotels at the corner of Harbor and Katella, the Hyatt House, the Springhill Suites and the Residence Inn (new tower).

Also the Sheraton Park is close to the Convention Center, as is the Portofino.

And of course, the Anabella. Both the new Residence Inn and the Anabella share a property line with the Convention Center.

I'm staying at desert palms and suites. The d23 site had a good discount for tickets. It's close too to both, near candy cane inn.

I'm planning on doing a lot of shopping so I was hoping there will be a delivery service at the expo! Similar to when you stay at a Disney hotel and they deliver your park shopping to the lobby.
Does anyone know if they do this?

They do not do this. There is a for cost bag check and then USPS is on site so you can ship things directly home from there.

The big thing to remember is D23 is independent from the parks and after our experience in 2015 there is no reason to stay at the Disney hotels as you get 0 perks for the extra price and either have to walk/cab/art to the convention center. We are staying at the Hilton Anaheim this year for convenience to the Expo unless Disneyland releases a good discount for then.

I don't attend D23, but we attend WonderCon every year (also at the Anaheim Convention Center). We love staying at the PPH (or if we can swing a DVS points rental, the GCH). This allows us easy access to the parks and DTD, but it's also not too much of a walk to the convention center. Our usual m.o. is to get up to take advantage of early entry at the parks, then grab lunch in the parks or DTD, then get to the convention center just after noon. We spend the afternoon and evening at the convention center, then return back to the hotel (or sometimes DTD for dinner).

While I agree the Hilton and Marriott are most convenient to the convention center, if you want to go to the parks too, PPH and GCH are excellent locations that aren't too far from either place.

Thanks!
I've booked a room at Hilton Anaheim but was starting to have doubts. I think I'll leave it and then pop by Downtown Disney District on the 17th before we move on.

They come at a steep premium though. I love GCH but can't justify that price when I'll be spending more time at the expo then at the parks. Kind of a trade off having sorcerers package had to find cost savings somewhere.

I always stay at the Disney Hotels for the Expos, but clearly most attendees do not. (I am a CM, so it is an option).

Fair enough! If it helps, we have found that if we rent points for a DVC studio at GCH, it's about the same cost as a standard room at PPH.

Wow! That's actually really great to know. I'm completely uninformed on how to rent DVC points. I know there are lots of threads on the subject, so it sounds like I need to do a little research.

Good advice in general, but it's too late to book VGC during the D23 Expo. DVC owners can try to waitlist, but waitlists for rentals are likely difficult to arrange.
