Hotel/transfers

Hi all, this is my first time in the chat room and I am getting a lot of info from everyone.

I need your help. We are a party of 7 and we taking the Disney Cruise in Oct.

First, we are going to arrive the day before the sailing. Any suggestions as to where to stay? Also what is the best to get from the airport- to the hotel - Hotel -to the port?

Second, we were planning on staying four days after the cruise at AK. Again we will need transfers from the port to the hotel and then the hotel to the airport.

I feel like transfers are going to cost a fortune.

With 7 of you, it would probably be most cost effective to have a town car service/minibus take all of you from your hotel to the port. Disney's transfers are about $50 a person airport-port-airport, and certainly one of the car services would be cheaper. You can check www.mousesavers.com for some recommendations, or perhaps some DISers have some personal experiences to share with you.

On our Wonder cruise in 2004, we rented a premium sized car through Priceline, stayed at the Sheraton Suites at the airport for $57 through Hotwire, and drove ourselves to the port, paid for parking for the car, and then kept the car for another 4 days at WDW afterwards. This option (including the parking) was cheaper for us than transfers and renting a car afterward, or renting two cars (one before and one after) the cruise.

This last time we stayed at the Hyatt (on points) the night before, and just took the Disney transfers. It was convenient, but more expensive if we hadn't had the points. Also, we didn't do any parks before or after this time, so there was no real need for the car.

Another option would be to rent from Budget or another company that has a location near the port. We almost did this for our January '05 cruise. The rate we had (Costco discount code) for a full size car for a one way rental for one day was less than $30. Even with two cars, it would be cheaper for your group than transfers.
