hotel prices question

So I live in Norcal and have been going down to LA to go to Disneyland for YEARS. We have always stayed across the street at the Desert Inn and have gotten it even under 100 a night in "off season". Then it went up and it seemed the cheapest we could get was around 169. I literally paid that last time I went which was in July. NOW ALL the hotels have gone insane. A lot of those on harbor are NOT that great. Pretty old and dated but worth it because they were close to the parks. They have gone up to almost 300 a night and I'm sorry but other than proximity that is an insane amount to charge for old dated rooms. Does anyone know if this is permanent or they are just jacking it up because they think that a lot of people will be coming for the 70th? That just seems insane to me for them to go up over 100 bucks more a night esp when you add all the taxes and fees to it. I could see if they were "nice" hotels but most of those aren't that great. Anyone know? I get there is inflation but things don't usually go up THAT much in such a short amount of time. I also can't help but wonder if that is seriously going to keep people from going between the insane park prices and now how much these hotels cost. Just curious if anyone has any ideas.

I just wanted to commiserate. I am looking at a room for early June and we usually stay at the Anaheim Desert Inn and Suites. I just checked and it $269 a night! We could usually count on them for, what I thought was, a fair price considering location and condition of the hotel. Now I'm looking at how far we would be willing to walk or factoring in the parking cost for staying somewhere we would need to drive from. Maybe walking in the morning and getting a ride share in the evening when the walk back seems much longer. I don't know, it's crazy.

Any special event will jack up hotel prices especially in high tourist areas. My suggestion, look outside of Anaheim. Some nice hotels in Cypress for a faction of the cost. Stayed in Courtyard Cypress Anaheim/Orange County a few times for business and vacation. Just take Katella straight down to the parks.

I've experience that with most our travel planning for 2025, significantly higher rates than I saw in 2023 and 2024. There's a few exceptions but most places I've looked are a lot higher. We paid $250 in October 2023 for right across from DL on the weekend, we decided just to stay at a Disney hotel for our next trip in June because if I'm going to pay over $300 might as well make it nice.

I agree. When my kids were little we used to stay at the Staybridge over on Manchester or even at the Embassy Suites that is down Harbor about a mile. They used to have tickets for the ART shuttle. I always liked being close but I may have to go back to staying father away. :(

I looked though far out and that seems to be the prices. I am hoping that because of the 70th they are doing this but guess we shall see :/

The last few years our repeated destinations have been harder to find similar pricing. Seems like it’s everywhere! Price increases and discount decreases. Sometimes it feels nuts.

Must be plenty of people still able and willing to pay for these ever-increasing hotel prices near the parks unfortunately. So if you want to stay across the street you will get charged a ton for that privilege unless something changes drastically.

So best thing to do if you want to save a bunch would be to just stay somewhere that is further than walking distance. Just going out a half a mile or more you start seeing lots more options at under $200 per night. Then just plan on $15 or so per Uber/Lyft ride (or ART for less if that works for you) and even with that cost you will still save a fortune. Not quite as convenient as being straight across Harbor, but if enough people did this then prices might eventually trend down.

I’d keep an eye out and make sure you don’t book anything non-refundable. If the market is similar to you and you aren’t competing with a convention, prices could drop closer to your trip.

They have been high for awhile now but I sure wouldnt pay that for Desert Inn...the onlytime I stayed there after COVID, it was $89, about what it is worth.

One thing to keep in mind when booking a hotel is what other things are going on the area or special events at Disneyland. For Candlelight all the hotels were incredible expensive. I moved our trip a week later and saved $89/night, which is more than what we used to pay per night. It started before COVID but since COVID it is worse and to answer the question it is not going to change. If anything it will go higher. I can see in the next 5 years those rooms going for close to $300/night will be closer to $400/night.

This is making me feel better about going ahead and booking Pixar Pier again for next year... prices are indeed insane. I used to go more often just for fun/for a break, but now we only go as an actual planned and budgeted trip since it costs so much.

If you’re flexible, you’ll find a deal. The Clarion is frequently available for $100 to $150, including taxes and fees. It’s a 20 minute walk from the esplanade, straight up Harbor. Or you can take the free Toy Story bus and walk 5-10 minutes (almost entirely on Disney property) across the street,

The ALO Orange goes from $125 to $200 all-in. You’ll need to take a ride share or ART, but parking is free as is a delicious breakfast (and cookies when you return from the park).

Across the street from ALO Orange is the Doubletree Hotel Fera. Rooms go from $125-200 here as well but no free parking or breakfast. During busy days they offer frequent free shuttle to DLR, otherwise you need to take ART or ride share.

You might check the Anaheim Majestic. It's an old Sheraton, not really walking distance, but it has its own dedicated shuttle and the rooms are quite large. It's also a full-service hotel with lobby, restaurant, pool, etc. It's old and dated, but it's relatively cheap. https://majesticgardenhotel.com/

Another possibility is to combine it with a visit to Knott's Berry Farm and stay at Knott's hotel. It's very nice, and they have a free shuttle over to Disneyland, so you could spend a day at Knott's (if you wanted) and go over to DL for your other days.

Everything has gone up quite a bit unfortunately. Our go to budget places are Alpine Inn and Kings Inn, both are walking distance. Also check out Candlewood suites. It’s a bit of a walk, but has an art stop right outside. Hotel Lulu sometimes has good rates too.

I 2nd doing the ALO in Orange is great. its a cheap ($10) uber ride. its cheaper because its outside the resort zone so that tax is not added

We are going with another couple and decided we can share a room. Cost sharing for the win! However, if we go with our family again I think we have finally been priced out of the Harbor BLVD hotels 😬

Make sure you add in any transportation costs when comparing. If you are paying $35 a day for parking or $20 each way for an Uber it may still make sense to stay on Harbor.

We always stayed right across the street until just before Covid. We stayed down at the Hilton in March 2020 and haven't looked back, unless staying on property of course. We've stayed at Dolphins Cove, Hilton, Cambria and Homewood Suites right around the Toy Story lot and we love it down there. I personally wouldn't recommend Cambia but our experience may be not the norm. I have the Hampton Inn booked for our next three trips and also are staying at the Worldmark on a other one in spring. The Toy Story Lot is close and we enjoy missing the long security lines in the morning at the park. I'm definitely a convert to staying down the street.

I prefer a hotel over a motel as I age, especially ones with soundproof walls. Also I wanted to say back in the day we could get Desert Inn for $69 a night in the "off season" those were the days!
