Hi

Has anybody stayed at the Hotel New York with very young children.

We're going in December when our girls will be just 4 and week off 3.

I'm a bit worried now as various websites describe this hotel as "formal".

We were booked in the Sequoia Lodge but the pool was due to be closed whilte we're there so we changed to the HNY. We're going for 5 nights so not planning to spend 10 hours rushing round the parks and wanted to have a pool to spend some time in. You know how toddlers are - you send a fortune taking them to Disney and they want to stay in the pool!!! :rotfl2: I know there's no shallow end but at the moment they both we're rings and arm bands and don't actually put there feet down so they won't be any the wiser :confused3

Wondering now if I should have stayed in the Sequia lodge.

Has anyone got anything positive to say about the HNY.

Thanks

Loads!!!! :teeth:

We stayed there when our DD was just 2 1/2, and loved it. It didn't seem anymore formal to us than the other hotels.

The rooms are more spacious than those at SL and, I think, a bit "plusher".

It's the closest hotel to the parks, apart from, obviously, the Disneyland Hotel, and it's the handiest for the Village.

You have the option of room service, which might be useful if your DDs are just too tired to eat in a restaurant. It's also a rather nice option for breakfast.

It has (did have) one of the better childrens areas in the lobby - though that isn't saying much, as I don't think any of them are particularly wonderful!!

And as you're going in December, the skating rink will be open, which looks lovely in the evening.

As you can see in my signature I have stayed in all Disney hotels at least once. And I would say that the HNY is more for adults than for children!
There are not that much children in the HNY than in the other hotels! So if your children start to make trouble in the breakfast room everybody will look at you! :lmao:
I would recomend the SL or the NPBC or if you can efford it the DLH!
But on the other hand: Due to the fact that there are not that much children you have got a better chance to get a picture with a character! And the pool looks great! (For an adult!) Children will have more fun in the pool of the SL or NPBC! The pool of the DLH is no fun for children! But the DLH has the Minnie Club. This is an animation area for children from 4 to 11 were they can play, watch TV, get their faces painted and so on. And the adults can enjoy a nice and quite evening.

hi I would disagree about the hotel not being for children, after all it is a Disney Hotel, we stayed twice at the HNY when my dd was 3 and we loved it, The Cast Members treated my dd very well and she was very happy there. we went last December and there was loads of children and in the afternoon there was characters entertaining the children. Last week we went for a drink in the bar and they now do children's cocktails in special shaker cups.

I stayed at New York as well and yes it is a formal hotel, but its just as children-friendly as all the other hotels. They will still love it, and a good thing about this hotel is that you can walk to the parks faster then going by bus.

And I say - let them look!!! Walt intended Disneyland (and so WDW and DLP etc) to be a place for families with children of all ages! Not so much for businessmen!!! ;)

I didn't said the HNY is not suited for children, I just said I think children would like the SL or the NPBC better! I didn't said there is no entertaining for children! I even said due to the fact that there are not that much children in the HNY then in other Disney hotels you even have a better chance to get your picture taken with them! :thumbsup2 ;)

I have never stayed at SL or NPBC before so I can not really comment on them so its good that the OP gets different opinions though I think they upgraded from SL to HNY because the pool was closed during there visit.

Also maybe you saw less children there because it a much smaller hotel then the SL or NPBC.

Sorry Marcus - I was just trying to help Higgy66 feel good about her choice of the HNY. :)

Although we have not stayed there we visited it every morning (free parking with dream passport). The character photo shoots were the most pleasant of all the hotels we visited.
CM's enjoyed the interaction with children since I think a lot of people stay away thinking that they would not be welcome.
I'm sure you will have a great time :)

Thanks everyone.

I feel better now. Its really useful to hear everyones opinions. That's why I love this site so much :cheer2:

I have been on SL and NPBC and there are just as many kids on NY then on them. I dont think people will look weird at you if you bring kids, it's a Disney hotel so of course it's for kids... and the kids looked like they loved it... and it's close to the parks and the village... :cheer2:

To make something clear: I never said people will look at you weird if you bring children to the hotel! I just said, I could imagine if children should vote for their favourite Disney hotel it will not be HNY! I think children will like SF, Ceyenne or SL better!

And of course higgy66 will have a wonderfull stay in HNY! Where else can you get such a view!

My daughter refuses to stay at Cheyenne as she says its for boys :confused3 I thought she would love it as it looks like one big play ground to me.

She also says that she won't stay at the NPBC as she does not like the colour, she says it too fancy :confused3

Though I will always have trouble getting her to stay anywhere other than the Disneyland hotel, though we will definitely stay at the HNY again as it is a lot cheaper than the DLH, and they a parts of it that we love more than the DLH. I think that the HNY is an excellent hotel.

Great picture by the way.
