We are trying to decide about staying onsite and I just wanted to find out if the Express Plus Pass is the same as the Front of the Line perk that onsite hotel guests receive?

In theory, yes, but technically, not. The purchased express pass is only good ONE TIME for each ride. So, if you ride MIB, the ride attendant will mark your pass for that ride, making it impossible for you to ride MIB again for the rest of the day. With the hotel room key, you can ride the same ride as many times as you want the entire day. They don't keep track. THey just look at your room key to see if it is valid for that day. Someone else can correct me if I am wrong. It has been a year since I was last there and this was the policy then.

You are right :thumbsup2 (....altho, I think you could ride MIB later that day....you'd just have to wait in line!)

I think what messes people up is the "plus" thing..... (which, I don't get why the purchased EP is called 'plus'...nothin' 'plus' about it...imho..... )

Express Pass Plus -- Purchased, valid 1x each ride
Express Pass -- your hotel room key...valid unlimited times for length of stay

It's an Express Pass - PLUS extra restrictions

:lmao: Exactly..

I think even if you plan on purchasing the Express pass, you'll still want to have a plan and get there early. I can't imagine setting foot in Universal and only doing Revenge of the Mummy once. I'd sooner die.

I think the plus was added to when the free express was still around. At one time there was express pass, express pass plus, and hotel FOTL.

well...yeah...THAT makes sense.... :headache:

(before my time :rolleyes1 )

Wow, I remember the old free express pass...I had nearly forgotten all about that.

The room keys are supposed to be scanned at each attraction, every time (for statistical purposes). IDK if this policy was dropped or not.

I honestly cannot remember the last time they scanned my hotel key. The pretty much look at the date and name. I love when they call me "Mers" for Mrs. :goodvibes

::yes:: We were there 5 days in '06, and 7 days in '07....only scanned twice and that was back to back ride at Suess Trolley in the Sky ride :confused3 Like everyone else...we just 'flash 'em' ;)

It was that way when we were there in 2005.

You flashed em! :scared1:

Ok, now seriously....the only place they ever scanned our room keys was Cat in the Hat. We haven't got to ride Seuss Trolley yet. We'll have to ride it in June! :thumbsup2

I know what you are trying to say. The attendants at each ride are SUPPOSED to mark your express pass when you go through the line, however it does not always happen and they donj't always check to see if it has been marked. We made it well aware to park management (spoke personally to them), that this system is completely messed up. There is no consistency. We always stay at a US hotel so we can get the privilege of unlimited access to rides using Express Pass. However, there were several groups of people with purchased express pass who zipped through the line in front of us several times (we all were in the express line, same ride). The attendant never checked the other peoples pass again after marking it the first time. We, on the other hand, were held up in line and our hotel keys were examined as if we were in airport security. Purchased express passes are not controlled any better than the old free express passes. I remember hearing people in line back then bragging that their express pass expired hours ago and wasn't even for the ride they were waiting for. The ride attendant never even looked at the paper pass. The people with the pass just smiled, laughed and said, "See, they don't check." (this was back in 01).

As Ride Attendants, it is hard to please both crowds. If you mark the expres passes, you get the "what is that for? they didn't tell us that when we bought them." or "Hulk didn't mark them!" So now, the EPP users are now pissed off. It makes the Hotel people happier because now their Express line is empty.

Other way around, if we don't mark express, it makes the EPP happy, and the Hotel people mad.

EDIT: I personally think that the Express Plus system should be done away with, and JUST have the hotel keys. But I'm not a fan of any sort of skip the line system.

As a ride attendant, you probably should be following the rules. If the pass allows one ride per ride, that is the rule and it should be followed. Making someone happy by breaking the rules doesn't make any sense for a ride attendant. If every attendant followed the rules, there would be no issue. It isn't about pleasing the crowd but doing what is supposed to be done. Express passes are clearly marked that they allow one ride per ride.

No need to try and please everybody. You only need to enforce the rules and policies of management. If that results in enough complaints that management gets rid of, or modifies the policy - that's their option.

Employees at the ride entrance should not be putting themselves (nor would I think they'd want to) in a position of individually determining what policies are best in the big picture.

EDIT> Damo beat me to the punch with the common sense response.
