Hotel Distance Question

I've read a couple of these threads and I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding this or not.....

We stayed at the Hojo a few weeks back, and while everyone loved it we did have a couple people (the oldest and the youngest!) who thought the walk was too much. They want to stay at one of the Disney hotels so it won't be so much of a haul next time.

But from what I can see, the hotels still have a big walk, don't they? If you count hikiing down from a room, waiting for an elevator, then the walk to Disneyland (we don't much care about CA)....isn't the journey just as long if not longer than the Harbor hotels? Or am I misreading it?

The only Disney hotel closer is the Grand Californian. I think distance-wise, HOJOs is the same as the DLH. If they want closer, look at the hotels directly across from the shuttle drop off on Harbor.

I tend to agree, HOJO is about the same distance as DH and PP, I also agree that for the young and individuals with any kind of back/joint problems a day at the park can wear you out to the point that the walk back to the hotel is a chore, and can seem to be too far to take a break during the day.

Not sure if there is a good solution. we are going to try one of the close hotels on harbour for our trip in January. It's still a pretty good walk to get out of the parks, past the shuttle drop off and to the hotel. It's made even farther for me knowing I'll be carrying a pretty good sized 5 yr old.

If you stay at the GCH it depends on the location of your room. Sounds like staying one of the harbor places may work out better.

FWIW, this link has links to other walking distance hotels:

The issue of Hojo's comes up frequently around here - and it can be a bit emotional. When we statyed at Hojo's I remember envying the people who were closer at the BWPPI's, Tropicana's, etc. It is not that far, but there are shorter options.

Some newbies get the wrong idea that Hojo's is really close. It's not. But it is walkable.

We have always enjoyed the proximity of BWPPI. Out your door, across the crosswalk and you are almost to security. But Hojo's is definitely a step up over BWPPI is niceness of rooms and grounds and pools, etc.

As Jack mentioned, GCH's distance can be deceiving as well. During our two stays we have stayed in the east wing near the DCA entrance, elevators and stairwell that drops you into DTD. We could get to DL security in 2 minutes and to the DCA entrance in 2-3 minutes depending on the elevator.

The DLH and PPH are about as far as Hojo's, but you can offset that to some degree by using the monorail.

Also note for WDW vets, but some of the WDW hotels like Coronado Springs and Carribean Beach have walks from the rooms to the bus stops longer than the Hojo's walk. So it is a matter of perspective.

Hope that helps!

How old is the youngest? If complaining pop 'em in a stroller, the walking done in the parks is much more than the walk to HoJo's....

Sort of. In our case we take afternoon hotel breaks and that means 4 walks a day. Each walk is about 0.75 miles. So 3 extra miles. That is on top of 5-10 miles in the parks. It all adds up. :teacher:

when we stayed at Hojo's my kids were 7-12. And I did have to get them a stroller afterwards. It was called a taxi! 10$ to get a ride to Hojo's!

I'm with everyone else here. Stay right across the street on Harbor. OR, stay at Candy Cane Inn, which is about the same distance as Hojo, but has a free shuttle every half hour. The Sheraton Anaheim also has a free shuttle, but it's farther away and definitely NOT walkable if you don't like to walk a long way.

I'm with everyone as well. The first time we went we stayed at the DLH. It was nice, but the second time we went we stayed at BWPPI. I would do that over DLH any day because of the walk. If I stay on site again, it will be because I got a really good PIN code for the GCH. We even have the Hojo ent rate for our stay this year and I'm still paying a little extra $$ to stay at BWPPI for the walk, as it gives us the ability to give us a mid-day break if we want.

We loved staying at the park vue inn when we were there last April. My family and I plan on staying there again whenever we get the chance to get back. Before we always stayed at cheaper motels further away. Not again!! Park Vue was perfect for my family! :thumbsup2

If all that matters is the walk, stay across the street on Harbor.

If you prefer more of a hotel experience, stay at a Disney property.

I fall into the latter category and just plain dislike the hotels on Harbor. It's just not the same. Others don't care a fig about anything but a clean room and bed. It depends on your situation and your preferences!

I never find the walk from DLH or GCH to be comparable to a hotel on Harbor, regardless of the "actual distance" counters. I dislike Harbor Blvd. I enjoy having nice grounds & amenities so I guess you could say I'm spoiled, but I gladly pay a little more to stay onsite. I say a little because I usually go off season and use my ap discount so the rate is not that much higher and IMO well worth it. Others feel just the opposite so there you are! It's a personal preference.

The room we stayed in at the grand had a walk to the center of the esplanade that was about the same as the walk from the sidewalk alongside hojo. SO frustrating. And walking through DTD is not my face, as I don't love malls and that's what it is. Walking along the park side of harbor, you can hear the music of Disneyland....sigh.

Now if only those places had magic morning....

Yes, that is the one problem I have with GCH. You just might find yourself off in a wing off a wing off a wing and then you feel like you got caught in a cross between Groundhog Day and The Shining.

I've gotten better at figuring out how to avoid that now, but the first time we stayed there, I swear it took us 10 minutes just to get from our room to the elevator :rotfl:

I've made it a habit in recent years to only stay across the street from DLR. The walk is incredibly fast compared to other hotels, but I haven't yet stayed on-site, so I'm curious to see how quick it is to get to the park from there.
