Hotel Decisions - HoJo vs Holiday Inn vs DLH

I'm taking my two youngest daughters and my oldest granddaughter (ages 7, 8 and 9) to DLR in July 2012. Looking at July 15-17 (2n). I can book 2 queens at HoJos for $418. Advantage -- its close to DLR, free parking.

Holiday Inn Anaheim (manchester ave) I can book a kids suite for $290.34 (free parking) but will have to pay to take the bus (approx $30) and of course rely on that which means more time wasted.

The DLH I can get for 560 plus tax - around 650 plus I have to pay $15 parking daily. VERY pricey!

When I compare the HoJos vs the DLR I'm tempted to spring for DLH. But then I compare HoJos with the Holiday Inn and its cheaper but I only have the 3 days/2 nights and don't want to waste it all waiting for a bus.

My biggest concerns would be price, location and cleanliness. I want this to be a nice vacation and while we won't be using the hotel for more than a place to sleep I do not want to stay in a dive.

What would you do? any other suggestions?

With the disboards discount code LNDB or the micechat discount code LKMC, the HoJo price drops 15% to $356 (including tax) for a 2 Queen standard room. If you have an Entertainment card, it's the same 15% discount.

I believe there's a 20% discount if you have an Annual Pass.

I think the availability of those discounts makes ruling out the DLH on price a little easier, anyway!

I haven't stayed at HoJo's before but based on the discount and the good reviews on this board we're staying there for our trip in June.

Our family stayed at hojo and loved it. The kids were 8 and 5 at the time. It was close, 5 min walk. The rooms were great, clean. Ours had a balcony and had a great view of the fireworks. The pool is great, they have a pirate themed water play area that my kids loved. The rooms also had fridges and Keurig coffe makers. Not a dive at all.

Haven't tried the Holiday Inn and really dislike staying non-walking distance. We have stayed at Hojo over a dozen times and DLH once. While I really enjoyed staying at DLH, the "perks" and "experience" are not enough to me to justify such a huge price difference if cost is of importance to you. Hojo is a comfortable choice for my family. Clean rooms, well-kept grounds, helpful, professional staff the few times we have needed anything from them. The pool is nice and the water play area is fun for younger kids. The walk is quite doable, on par with the DLH walk, albeit along a busy city street rather than the more immersive resort experience of DtD. We generally choose to save money on the hotel and use that money for frivolous food and souvenirs.

thanks for the codes! can you tell me where to put these on my online reservation? or do i need to call them direct to inquire if these are available?

I just came back and stayed at HoJo's. Even though we were happy with our room (kids suite) and the place is very clean and well mantained, we missed the time when we stayed at the Grand Californian. The proximity for us was just the same, but the GCH is sooo beautiful! and when walking in Harbour, we met some strange characters hanging around. Not bad, but really, if you like to come back at night to a nice hotel, stay at DLH. The walk across Downtown is much better (in my opinion) than Harbour.
At the end, is your decision, and your money. And whatevers makes you happy.

You can put the codes in the "promotion code" box on the hojoanaheim.com home page when you put in your dates for the reservation. Then the lower rates will show up on the "rooms and rates" page and you can book the room from there.

You can also call them directly at (714) 776-6120 and ask for in-house reservations. The folks on the 1-800 number can't always find the discounts, but the in-house reservation staff are very helpful!

ETA: I just checked the hojoanaheim.com website and it says limited availability for some of the rooms for your dates, so I'd book quick if you're thinking of doing that!

Yep, the "promotion code" box. If you have an AP, the code is LNAP to get the 20% discount. You'll be required to show your AP at checkin.

HTH,

we stay at Ramada Inn Maingate, which is located right across the street from DL and much less of a walk. We love it there. Great rooms, free continental breakfast (which is actually nice with pastries, eggs, cereals, coffee etc....), free parking, great pool etc...:cool1:

Also, their prices are really great!

If you want to go watch some girls dance in the parade (lots of fun - we did last year) My niece is in the Disneyland Summer Dance classic. You can google it , then click on travel planning - I posted the link below, they have specially priced hotel rooms for all 3 disney hotels if you intend to stay to watch the dancers. Paradise Pier is only 305 at that rate.

I'm confused about the proximity being the same. GCH is the closest to the parks. HoJos is up Harbor. What am I missing?

Well I think that GCH is less of a walk thru downtown Disney than walking over to Hojo. Hojo is actually quite a walk, especially when you are tired at the end of the day. There are closer good neighbor hotels on Harbor directly across the street near Denny's and Ihop.

I'm sorry. I guess I misunderstood what you meant when you said The proximity for us was just the same" I thought you meant they were the same distance for you and I wanted to know what your secret was because I thought the Grand was a lot closer than HoJos. LOL

LOL! Yes I know it's not the same (somebody else responded :goodvibes), I just wanted to say that we feel it's crazy to debate so much in the proximity of the hotels, they seem the same for us, and I mean they feel the same. We stayed at the Grand in one of the far far far rooms so we walked a lot to get to the entrance... the same.:thumbsup2
If you ask me in feet how much is the differente, no idea!! :crazy2:

I would recommend the DLH completely. You & the girls would have a complete disney experiance. The new rooms are fantastic, the new pools are great, and great dining facilities. The monorail is a short walk from the hotel, as well as all the vendors in DTD. Be sure to inquire about everything available to DLH guests. TTMM, entry into DCA through the Grand, are just a few of the perks you get staying with disney. We have stayed in the disney hotels five times and off site three times, I will not go back unless I stay with disney. The extras we get through disney are almost priceless......:cool1:

I gotcha now!!! I agree that those couple of hundred yards don't seem that huge of a difference after the miles and miles you walk in the park each day.

For only the 2nd time, my mom, sister and I are headed to Disneyland. This is part of a longer vacay up the Cali coast. I was looking at vacation packages on the website, but was wondering if it would be cheaper to book hotel and tickets separately or should I stick with the package?

Also, we'd like to be as close as possible so we can park the car and leave it. Walking distance would be perfect. However, we are all women so we want safety as well. We noticed that most of the hotels around there have exterior entrances (the cheaper ones anyway). Would those be ok to stay in? :confused3

Any and ALLLL advice is appreciated. Thank you!!! :dance3:

Depends on what room you have in the GCH. This comes up periodically, but some rooms at GCH can be almost as far away as HoJo's. See "How Far Is It?" on MousePlanet:

http://www.mouseplanet.com/7280/How_Far_Is_It

If you read down towards the end of the article, it makes the point that DLH and PPH are about as far as HoJo's. And that for GCH, it depends where your room is. Your GCH room could be as far as 2315 feet, compared to HoJo as close as 2648. Yes, not quite as far, but at that point, the difference is negligable.
