My DD is having her first slumber party tonight. I did limit it to only 3 guests since I'm just getting my feet wet on this slumber party thing:) My question is what do I need to have in the house for the girls. I will have pizza for dinner and then birthday cake. What else do I need? I thought about getting ice cream sundae stuff and letting them make their own sundaes....but after pizza and cake will that be overkill? What kind of snacks should I have on hand?
Oh...and DD requested waffles for breakfast....how do you keep the waffles hot until you have enough they can all sit down together and eat?

You definitely will want some sort of snacks beyond the pizza and cake. Maybe some popcorn (for with a movie later), chips/dip or veggie platter and fruit platter. I don't think ice cream on top of that will be too much, it is a party, after all!

As for breakfast, when I make waffles for my family, I just stand in the kitchen and make waffles continuously, and everyone eats them as they come out of the waffle maker (mine actually makes 2 at at time) because they just aren't anywhere near as good if you wait to have enough for everyone. You can make it go smoother by having other food options for the rest of them to eat while they wait for their own waffle (fruit chunks maybe)

Healthy snacks like a fruit tray for later in the night.
keep the waffles warm by putting them in the oven on low.

Have some games out ready to play; have your daughter choose a video or two to watch once it gets later in the evening and time to settle down.

We usually have one craft thing for them to do too.

Here is one of my favorite tips! Last slumber party I told the girls they could stay up extra late!! Before they all got there I changed all the clocks to an hour later. They thought they were going to bed at midnight but they really went to bed at eleven!!;)

Arr...I forgot about a craft...we had even talked about that. DD got Just Dance 4 for her birthday and I got Just Dance Disney from Redbox for them. I also planned on a movie later in the evening and made sure I had fingernail/toenail painting supplies so they can paint each others nails if they want. What is a good craft for 9 year olds that I can get the stuff for at Walmart???

OMG - that is genius!!

I would do popcorn for a movie later. Fruit on skewers for snacking would be fun. I would skip sundaes.

Honestly? Nothing. Let them watch a movie, and hang out. They don't need to be entertained 24x7, and they won't mind if they're not, they'll find things to do. You've already gotten them the Just Dance items, they're good. I wouldn't worry about snacks, unless your house is completely empty, they probably won't be hungry after pizza and cake.

Slumber parties don't need to be non-stop parental entertainment. If you have a basement where there's a TV, send them down there and let them play.

Buy some cheapie pillowcases from Dollar General and let them decorate them with fabric paint.

DD had her friends over in January for her December bday (we were out of town on her bday) Just Dance kept them occupied for a while, they played Apples to Apples, probably did each other's nails in DDs room. At that age, I ask DD to have some ideas, but I don't plan the sleep over.

For food-pizza will be great, smores, ice cream sundaes, fruit, chips and dip, popcorn. We always have teens in and out and try to keep stuff on hand anyway.

I did pancakes for DDs sleepover. I put bacon in the oven to cook, and when it and a few pancakes were ready, I called the girls out for breakfast. They ate was ready and then ate as the pancakes came off the griddle.

that would never work in my house, too many cell phones and iPods with the correct time on them. lol

No need for a craft, you've got plenty of games and movies and nail stuff for them to do. :) I'd have the pizza, cake, ice cream (love the sundae idea), sodas to drink and popcorn for the movie. Otherwise, I think you're good to go. My girls are 24, 16 & 12 so I have had many a slumber party. :)

I agree with this. Forget the sundaes. Definitely get some popcorn and fruit. Fruit skewers are a great idea! maybe some chocolate sauce for dipping. :)

A movie is a good idea. Otherwise i wouldnt worry about activities. Kids always find stuff on their own to keep themselves entertained.

Ah, that's when you set all the clocks to different times, and don't tell the kids which one is right! - We did that once, and called it a time warp party. (The Chimpmucks have a version of the Time Warp song that you can download on iTunes. The kids loved it.)

Here is what we did for sleep overs. The kids could do whatever they wanted....BUT...at about 10 or 11, depending on their age....we put on a movie and told them they had to lay down to try to sleep. We told them if they were too loud the dogs would bark and we would appreicate it if they tried to sleep. We also told the kids if they were quiet and didn't wake us up, they would be invited over frequently!
Almost every time...all kids would be sleeping before the movie was over! Whew!

Save the sundae fixin's for the top of the waffles in the morning, it'll be a HUGE hit with the kids and you get to send the little sugared up darlings home. :goodvibes

Two kinds of ice cream, sprinkles, syrup and don't forget the whipped cream! Put cooked waffles in a 275 degree oven to keep warm until serving. Even if they aren't hot, the kids will love them.

Well in the words of my dd "That was the best party EVER!!" so I guess I have to say it was a success. I did skip the craft and they still had plenty to do. They were up until almost 2 in the morning dancing. I will say I thought 4 girls was a great number....I don't know how you do it with more and keep everyone engaged and no one feeling left out. I pretty much stayed out of it although my DH did jump in on the pillow fight and the loved it - LOL!! Otherwise we pretty much let them have the house to themselves. I would definitely not hesitate to do it again.

Congrats on a successful night! You were wise to keep the number small for the first time. Girl dynamics can be so tricky! Glad your DD had such a fun bday!
