Horrible experience at the Rose and Crown

My family and I just returned from a week at WDW and had a wonderful time except for our experience at the Rose and Crown in Epcot. I can't stress enough how disappointed we were with our food and our service in this restaurant. The only positive thing I can say is that we were seated almost exactly on time but after that everything was a let down. It took over 2 hours to get through our meal. We kept thinking our waitress had been abducted. We were seated and then waited quite some time for our drink order to be taken. It took over 20 minutes for those to arrive and they literally had about 4 pieces of half melted ice in them and were not cold at all. Luckily we had her stay and go ahead and take our food order because it took an unheard of amount of time for that to come back out. Almost no plates were cleared throughout the duration of our meal so we had to scrape plates onto to other plates and stack them to make room for our upcoming food. We waited 30 minutes from the time everyone at our table finished their meal to the time we were offered a dessert menu only she didn't have one with her. She came to our table, asked if we were interested in seeing a dessert menu and then took 15 menus to go back and get them. We ordered our desserts only to wait and wait and wait again. We never could manage to get a drink with ice in it and we literally had to get up and chance down our waitress just to get our check so we could leave. It was the worst service we have ever had at any restaurant EVER. The food was just ok and then when we left they had removed our stroller from where THEY asked us to leave it and no one could find it!!! Our waitress never once apologized for the incredible delays or offered any sort of explanation, even after we had to practically beg them to let us pay so we could just leave. Unbelievable. We had eaten at Le Cellier earlier in the week and they were overbooked and running 20 minutes behind and we still had a wonderful experience and a very polite apologetic staff that went out of their way to make our meal and enjoyable one. Too bad we can't say the same for Rose and Crown. Also 3 members of our party became ill after that meal...possibly a coincidence but it wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't.

That's unfortunate.

We had one of the best experiences we've ever had at ANY WDW eatery at the Rose & Crown 2 years ago. A wonderful attentive waitress (even though the place was packed). My Dad had just had knee surgery and she doted on him and made him feel very special - at the end she surprised us by escorting us out to the water's edge for special seating for Illuminations (even though he had not asked).

We've also heard nad things about the service @ Coral Reef and went last year despite of the negative reviews. We had a wonderfully funny, experienced waiter who went above and beyond throughout the meal.

One can never tell what one will encounter from day to day, night to night, CM to CM.

We also had so-so service at Rose & Crown. The hostess had a definite attitude and the waitress was alright. The food was nothing to write home about either, although my son loved the cheese plate. Probably would not go back.

Ate at Rose and Crown tonight - we keep giving it "one last shot" because it's a tradition and the location can't be beat for Illuminations. But again the food was awful. The manager came around and asked how our meals were and i told her flat out that without the cottage pie, there wasn't anything left on the menu I wanted to eat. I ended up eating the potatoe & leek soup, cheese rolls and a bit of sticky toffee pudding (tried but couldn't be bothered with the vegetable pot pie - horrible).

so, if we go back next time, i'll make sure to eat first. As for the service, it was great, no complaints

Thanks for sharing your review. Sorry to hear you did not have a good experience. :headache:

Please kind disr's any other thoughts on R & C this was one adr I was looking forward to and out last meal at WDW before we come home!!!

We ate at Rose & Crown earlier this week. We actually had ADR for Cap'n Jacks at DTD, but at the last minute switched to R&C. We were so glad we did! It was one of our best meals. We loved the ambience, and our waitress was very charming and friendly, asking us questions about our home and talking about her family. The steak and fish dish was great! We will go back in the future for sure!:thumbsup2

We have been to R & C 4 times I think. Each time we have had a great waiter/waitress and our food came in a timely manner and was good. One time we had a party of 10 which we were told would have to be split up but they managed to seat us all together outside and it was great.

I see they have changed the menu some though so I dont know if we will go this year.

We had great service and good meals again at the Rose & Crown a few weeks ago. It's on our "must do" list for next year (at 7:30 so we'll have prime seating for Illuminations). :)

Please don't take a poor review too seriously. I have only eaten there once, I thought the food was fine, but lukewarm. It was freezing on the patio and the flaps kept hitting out table. As far as I'm concerned this was not a deal breaker for us. The things that made it unpleasant were out of their control. They pared down the menu since then, so that is why I wont return. Only one meal there appealed to me and it's gone, since there are many other restaurants, I wont return this trip. If you are looking forward to it, then go and enjoy. Don't let a bad review stop you.:thumbsup2

We dined @ the R&C on Sept 13...
Hostess was just plain rude. We arrived @ 6:50 for our 7:10 ADR.
The hostess told us to leave and not come back til 7:10.... then had us wait 20 minutes to be seated.
The waitress was really sweet but the food was just terrible. We ordered the steak and fish. The fish was not up to par... tasted like frozen and the steak was fatty and had no flavor. Dessert was also not memorable.... all 3 of us can't remember what we had.
It used to be one of our favorite restaurants but we will not be returning after this experience.
I had the scotch flight... that was the only thing that was any good.

We became  after eating there. So bad we missed our illuminations cruise:sad1: . The food was awful to start with, in hindsight we should have sent it back.

We eat at the Rose & Crown every year and we love it. True, the menu is limited, but I'm always happy with the traditional Fish & chips! We've ALWAYS been accommodated and have gotten a prime seat for Illuminations (may be because my daughter is in a wheelchair). Never feel rushed out of there either. One night, our waiter (from London) sat down with us at the end of shift to talk. He must have hung out with us for a good 20 minutes, talking to us about England and getting our recommendations for a trip he was taking to NYC (we're native Jerseyites). I've always enjoyed my dinner there - although it not always about the food but the atmosphere!
:thumbsup2

we've eaten there a few times and i have to say with much disappointment that the last time (mothers Day) was terrible.

They've changed the menu, the service was so, so and the food was terrible. We did not book R & C for our upcoming NYE trip

You may have had the same server that we did on our one and only bad experience at R&C last December. We ended up leaving after paying for our drinks and going to Chefs de France that was still open due to it being an extra magic hours night. We had a wonderful meal and servive there.

As someone else said, on any given night a CM can make or break your dining experince. We will go to R&C again someday and I will continue to order the Bass and /or Guiness from the bar. :drinking1

P.S. If they are still selling it, do not order the YoMD Glowtini unless you really want the light up cube. ;)

I think that we have been to the R & C every trip to WDW except the last one in April. We have always had a great meal, waitresses have always been up to par and although the menu is limited, I think it does reflect traditional Eglish fare. We did have one issue one time, we were sat next to what U believe wqas a company party and they were so load we could not talk back and forth at our table. We brought it too the attention of our waitress and we were immediatly moved to a quieter table. Can't wait to go next April.

We ate inside once and were not impressed. Now we just stick with getting Fish and Chips from the booth outside. Yum!:cutie:
