Are the seating arrangements still based on the reservation date and time (i.e. first reservation gets the best seats)?

I believe so.

I went with my DS recently and HDD was one of the first reservations I made. I believe we had table 13 which didn't seem like a very good number, but we ended up at a table for 2, dead center.

They changed it up a bit where you pay for levels now, there are three categories. Within those categories, i was told it was random seating. I made my last hdd ressies on the first morning available, I was told that I was one of the first to make ressies. Yet we were seated at one of the very back tables. I wonder if it has to do with check in time? Just not sure.

Did you have a category 1 seat? I booked category 1 on day 180. I would hate to think I could be stuck in the back when I made my reservation so early.

I read that it was not based on check-in time but based on how soon you made your ressie. We are in Cat 2 and made ressie at 180 days. I was hoping we would have one of the best seats within that catergory.

Has this changed? Do we now need to arrive super early to ensure a good spot. :confused3

You can pick up your tickets at guest services the day you arrive at your resort. Your seats will all ready be assigned. We did this in January.

Thanks. Sounds like the WDW policy has not changed in terms of seating.

Were you in Category 1 or 2? I was just looking at the seating charts and Category 2 is tha last row of the main floor or the area facing the stage on the second floor. All other tables on the main floor are Category 1.

Also, how was the view from your table? We would be using the dining plan, so I think we can only choose from Category 2 and 3.

will the reservationist tell us from now what seat # we are in for August?

We had cat 2 and sat in the last row on the main floor and thought it was great especially when DS had to go to the restroom which is not in that building. Kids liked it so much they requested to go again this trip. Crossing my fingers we get the same seats

If by reservation you mean when you pick it up at resort guest services or Fort Wilderness, yes, it will have the # on it. When you call to make a reservation, they will not give you a table #, just a confirmation #.

That explains why you were in the last row. If you made your ressies as soon as you could, category 2's best seating would be considered the last row on the main floor. Personally, I would rather be upstairs at the back if category 2, especially if the 5pm show as I noticed that there are a lot of kids at this show and the noise level is more noticeable at the back of the main floor than upstairs. I don't care for level 3 as much either, mainly because all the chairs face the wall, not main floor so you have to turn around all the time to watch the show. As you probably guessed by now, I have been teo HDDR many, many times!

I was also wondering whether Cat 2 or 3 could seat more than 6 together. I am not thinking this is the case. I booked Cat 1 because we have 7 (1 is in a high chair) and for Cat 2 & 3 it said we were not guaranteed to sit at the same table, but that notice was not on Cat 1.

I would think cat. 3 for sure because the tables are all in a single row along the railing.

We had Cat 3 when there were only 3 of us, and I think the groupings are three on one side and three behind with aisles between the tables. Wouldn't want that with the baby though as she is old enough to want to get out or try to stand in the high chair and peer over the railing - so we wanted to stay away from the edge to have to see. (When our older DD was 4 she was fine with it though.)

Last Year we did the 9:30pm show do to the fact that on the Disney Dining Plan you can get Category 1 seating1 It was the best thing we ever did we were right at the stage smack dab next to the piano man! It was hysterical because the actors kept picking on us and our friends that were also in the first row at the stage on the opp side. I would highly recommend this show if you can stay up that late! We are doing it again this August and booked exactly as before at our 180 day mark!

we have a reservation in Category 1 for 10 people. any chance we will be at the same table or are the tables smaller than that?

They have long tables that run from a couple rows from the stage toward the back of the room, in the middle. If you made your ressies right when you could, you should get great tables. They assign the tables first ressies get what are considered best seating, although there really isn't a bad seat in the house.

I have been twice. Each time I booked Cat 2 for the early show.

The first year we had a table for 7, which was booked around 180 days. My neighbour decided to take her nephew on the trip so I had to cancel my reservation which was made at 180+ days for 6 people. We got a great table-2nd row centre (Cat.1 table).

Last year I booked a table for 2 at 180+ days for my niece and I and we were seated 1st row under the balcony (I'm guessing that is Cat. 2).
