OT - Montsalvat
This weekend, we went to a classical guitar concert held at Montsalvat in Eltham. For those of you that have been subjected to my previous jaunts, Eltham is where the Wattle Festival is held...so you may already recall that it is a very pretty suburb.
Eltham, for those of you that don't know Melbourne

, is located about 40 minutes north east of the CBD and is pretty much at the base of the foothills where the Great Dividing Range starts. It is hilly, green, semi-urban country where city meets country. The residents that live in Eltham are fiercely proud of the greenness of their suburb and rightly so.
There was an artist community that was set up in the 1930's and the original band of artists bought the land that is now Montsalvat. I think that there is about 20 acres to this property, it is National Trust lists and comprises a number of cottages and buildings for various artists-in-residence to create and teach.
The guitar concert was good, albeit a little on the long side for an afternoon concert. I didn't take any pictures during the concert but I did take some pictures of Montsalvat.
I hope you get a sense of what a wonderful space it is from these.
Somehow, I missed taking a shot of the front entrance. But this is the back entrance to the main gallery building.
The stage is to the right of that doorway.
Inside the main gallery, which is set up for our concert.
This is the Long Gallery room.
Look what the cat dragged in!
This building is the Main/Grand Hall.
The front entrance to the Grand Hall.
The main level has been converted to this space, very popular as a wedding venue.
And downstairs is a function room. Lucky for me, it was being set up for a wedding that night.
This is pure icing on the cake!
There is a chapel on the property.
The area around the pool, no longer in use.
Some of the other buildings that caught my eye.
It was late afternoon when the concert finished. We were STARVING....so we found a pub to stop in and have dinner.
DS had the fish and chips.
DH had the calamari salad.
I had the chicken fillet stuffed with a creamy lobster sauce.
We all headed home well satisfied!
