Hey everybody, I'm a long time lurker, first time poster in need of advice! My fiance and I are honeymooning in late May next year at WDW. We're trying to decide where to stay and at the moment are stuck between waterviews at Yacht/Beach Club or Lagoon view at GF! Please give me your opinions on the best honeymoon atmosphere! Thanks in advance!

I would think the GF would be really romantic. Some rooms you can even view the fireworks over the castle from your balcony. :)

Congrats to you and your fiance! :D

I think both resorts are wonderful. My husband and I honeymooned at the GF and it was fantastic. Very romantic and we really liked being on the monorail. We have also stayed at the Y&BC and really enjoyed it as well. With EPCOT being our favorite park we tend to want to stay in that area.

Which ever resort you choose, you will love it!

If you go to the resort faq and read about those resorts, you might find some helpful insight. I just returned from GF and I cnanot imagine a more romantic spot! And they treat you like royalty :) Also, this site has great photos as well:

Even some of the standard rooms have a partial lagoon view, MK view (not the castle), Cont view, EWP & fireworks - all from your balcony! I prefer the rooms in Boca Chica - the room decor is not over the top with characters - but rather nicely elegant. We had a end room with 2 balconies - both overlooking the Castle,Lagoon, MK, Cont and fireworks (and EWP). This room would be perfect: 8345 or one like it...huge and lovely, although it did have 2 queen beds. Rooms 8339 (standard) thru 8345 (lagoon) offer excellent views. There is 7 rooms on that end and probably the same on the 2nd & 4th floor, so perhaps you'd be able to get one!

Call the GF during a least busy time (early a.m. or around 1p.m.) and ask to speak with the front desk - Aruoda - was wonderful as well as Vicky, a front desk supervisor. Poor Aruoda , I am sure I am mis-spelling her name! Ask them what they would recommend you put in as a request. I found them so much nicer and more helpful than the YC or BC.

Congrats!!!

I think that either place would be fine depending on which area you want to be in. Do you see yourself spending more time at the MK or at Epcot and MGM?? Do you want have to have the convience of monorailing around to different resorts, or do you want a Boardwalk to stroll around on?
We HM-ed at the YC, and returned again this year. We also went over to explore the GF and after visiting determined that we had made the best decision becoming YC people. The GF was a little too "hustle and bustle" for us. The YC seems a little more relaxed and quiet atmosphere, which is what we prefer. We also liked the decor - blues and browns - and the nautical theme since we are "water people". I think that another determination should be based on your personal tastes as a couple.
Also, I want to say that you can't beat a lagoon view at the YC!! I can't tell you how many evenings we would sit on our balcony, drinking a glass of wine, watching the Boardwalk light up. It is SO romantic. We spent so much time on our balcony - coffee in the morning, relaxing in the evening, and just taking it all in before we went to sleep at night.
Either would be great - just base your opinion on what is more important to you!
And, finally, I'll give a few not-so-shameless plugs for the YC
- Boardwalk views!!!
- Quiet and relaxing
- Great balconies with patio furniture
- walk to Epcot
- walk to MGM
- view Illuminations on the beach of the YC/BC
- Storm along bay (great water slide, tons of fun pools that are sand bottom!)
- Great resort restaurants all around the area (YSH, Shula's, Blue Zoo, Flying Fish, etc. plus at Epoct!!)

have a great time and congratulations!!

That was cute!! But I must add that I've stayed at both places and found the GF to be just as (if not more) relaxing ;) This time was sooo relaxing and lovely and yep, the same lovely views , only the MK lagoon can be had sitting on the balcony with comfy furniture, wine in hand etc etc..;) Nothing but the water rippling, twinking lights in the distance.....

There is nothing to beat the walk to World Showcase and MGM - except maybe the water launch to the MK.

I found the YC and BC much busier than the GF - the Boardwalk area is so busy!

Soooo, it's whatever sounds most appealing! Isn't it wonderful to have such great choices?? :)

Oh! And Private Dining at GF can arrange dining in your room or even a lovely spot on the grounds of the resort!

My DH and I honeymooned at GF and thought it was beautiful. That said, I have to admit - I did wish that we had chosen one of the Epcot resorts. The main reason was b/c we love Epcot and love walking to all the different restaurants and bars. If you plan on being social - go with YC/BC. If you plan on relaxing by yourself, go with GF. By the way - if you end up at YC/BC - be sure to check out the Belle Vue room at the BW. Really neat little place to sit outside on the balcony and grab a drink and people watch. If you stay at GF - visit the Polynesian and check out the bar upstairs with all the glass - pretty neat. (Believe it or not, we did do more than drink during our honeymoon!) Another fun thing to do is resort hop - easy to do with the monorail resorts. Be sure to check out the AKL also - gorgeous!!

I agree! We only just became acquainted with the Belle Vue Room, and wish we had done so sooner! Also in the Epcot area is Jellyrolls (loud, fun piano bar), Blue Zoo (cool lounge for a fun cocktail), and at the YC you can grab a drink to take onto your balcony or to the front porch.

Being so close to the World Showcase is awesome. We are able to make it over there for more than half of our trip because we love it so much.

Also, you could always split your stay to try two different resorts. Something that we do is since we LOOOOVVVVEEEE the YC and I highly doubt we will stay anywhere else so long as our finance will allow ;), we like to "resort hop" and travel around to see all of the different ones! Grab a drink or a meal, or just stop in to view the pool and the lobby. It's a great way to get a taste of all that WDW is.

Consider splitting your stay between the two resorts, then you get the best of both! We did this during our last visit and it was like getting two vacations in one. Disney will move your luggage for you, so it's not really a big hassle to move.

We just returned from our honeymoon and stayed at the BC and Poly. I think BC has it hands down in the romance dept. We had a waterview king room. The BC seems to be a lot less hectic than the monorail resorts and the fact that you can walk to world showcase makes it a winner for me! While we enjoyed the Poly, and staying on the monorail, there were just too many people around all the time everywhere to make it romantic, and we were there in value season!

Hope this helps :)

As former WDW honeymooners (and fairly frequent WDW guests)... I have to put my vote in for the YC/BC, that is where we stayed in May of 1994!! (we just had our 10 yr!!)--the end of May!!! (what a great time to get married LOL!)

Everytime we go to WDW I always take a quick glimpse of our "honeymoon haven" which was a nice little corner room at the BC facing the quiet pool and the lake on the top floor. I always look at that room and have fond memories:o The SAB pool is beautiful.

But, we loved this resort then and now there's so much in that area. The GF is nice but I just like the EPCOT resort area especially now. We prefer the S/D to stay at now but love having access to all of the area's "fun".

I think it has more adult things to do than the MK area does. (as other posters mentioned). BW, S/D restaurants are excellent (you must try Fresh). We also love YCG at the YC. And, Blue Zoo I've heard great things, so....my vote definitely rides with the EPCOT side:teeth: (but you'll enjoy no matter where you stay!!)

OH and make sure when you do make you reservation to let them know it is your honeymoon. We received a nice wine and cheese basket from the BC. Don't know if they still do that but can't hurt to let them know, plus we got a very nice room upgrade for the standard "off peak" price at the time.

Thanks everybody for all your replies. I went home last night armed with a few ideas to throw at my fiance about where to stay. I do have to say that I'm leaning towards YC. Josh, however says he's split 50:50 still. We probably won't book until the end of this month and we're very prone to changing our minds on resorts. This past January we stayed at WL and it took months to decide on that one :D

Special thanks to katienyc, I basically memorized your post as part of my pro-YC speech to Josh! :teeth:

BaciBecky, Josh thanks you since he used your post to agrue GF back at me! :D

jwfla422, congratulations on celebrating your 10th anniversary, it's my greatest hope that in 10 years we'll look back on our honeymoon as fondly as you do! :lovestruc

Staci princess:

Staci - glad to hear that you guys are weighing out the options. The thing is - it's a win-win situation!!! Let me know if you need more things to sway your Fi towards the YC!! ;)
