I just ordered a ham to take to my in laws for Thanksgiving and the website says to serve it cold or room temperature. :confused3

They do not recommend baking it or warming it in any way.

This just seems wrong... :scratchin

Anyone serve their Thanksgiving ham cold?

If you are a ham rebel and warm your ham, how to do you do it?

We are expecting 18 to 20 people. This is our only protein unless someone else offers to bring something else. My MIL is not well and FIL cannot handle anything extra on his plate, so the adult children are dividing up the menu. We are eating at MIL & FIL's house do to her lack of mobility.

we always serve ready made haves cold in my opinion its so much better than warm, now if its not ready made just marinated and not cooked of course we cook it lol

We get a HoneyBaked Ham every year for Christmas. Always serve it cool. I take it out of the fridge an hour before dinner so it's not freezing cold, germs be damned! :) We've always been fine and it's delicious!

This is how I serve it, too.

LOVE honeybaked Hans and always serve it cold. I always have scalloped potatoes and green beans as sides - along with a fresh loaf of Italian bread and mayo, mustard etc for those who want to make a sandwich!

Okay, I will give it a try and see how the family likes it! =O

They might not let me bring ham again!!! hehe

We heat ours up. Mainly we just put a few big slices on a plate and cover with moist cloth and microwave until warm (not hot). I don't overly enjoy cold meat when the rest of the meal is hot.

I would never serve a ham cold for a meal...that seems really strange. I would serve it cold if you were setting out various components to make sandwiches, but not as a main course.

My in-laws purchased a ham from them last year and it wasn't very good. They usually buy one from a local butcher but decided to try one of these and none of us were impressed. Back to the butcher hams! It wasn't terrible, just comparable to your average grocery store ham...certainly not worth the price.

I have never heated one up. I like it cold.

We always eat it warm at Thanksgiving or Christmas and cold at Easter. No idea why except maybe that the sides are different.

We put the slices in a pan with a tiny bit of water and cover with foil then heat in the oven.

Sorry...but the idea of eating it cold is disturbing to me. I'd pass right by it if it were cold; even if that was the only meat there. We put some on a platter and throw it in the oven on a low temp for 30 minutes or so before putting it out. If I'm making a sandwich the next day, I'll warm it up then too.

Not cold but room temp is what I do

Just had this conversation. :lmao::rotfl2: My brother worked for HB and was leaving so we went and got a ham for the last time with his discount. So we decided to have it for dinner the other night. My mom just pulled it out of the fridge and sat it down. I had a look of confusion on my face. I said "Aren't you even going to heat it up before we eat it"? So No, they technically are suppose to be eaten cold or room temp and not be heated. It was still very god but I just could not wrap my brain around NOT heating up the ham.

I would not personally eat it cold. Seems very strange to me, unless I am using the leftovers for a sandwich, I would only eat it warm.

I would feel odd serving cold ham to guests, seems kind of lazy or something even though it says that's how it's supposed to be served! :rotfl:

That's exactly what I do when I have honeybaked ham- I also buy the turkey breast since 2 of us don't eat ham and I just put slices on a platter covered with aluminum foil and heat it that way. Only way I would put it out cold is if we were making sandwiches.

It's no more wrong than not serving Turkey!!!!

It is delicious cold. But if you must warm it up, it is important to note the ham is extremely vulnerable to moisture loss. So warm it up at low temperatures (250) for about 12-18 minutes per pound. Make sure to put the face down and either the shank or butt end (depending upon which you got) up. Make sure you have liquid in the pan and wrap the whole thing, (Pan, and ham,) in Aluminum Foil. Note that because it is pre cooked, you only have to get it warm and it may be served immediately.
