Well last night was our 9 year anniversary so I surprised my DW by coming home 6 hours early from the conference I had been attending all week. Only to find she wasn't home. So I gave her a call and we met up and went out for dinner. While eating we realized that at the same time next week we would be eating at the Coral Reef at Epcot.
So a little more about this...
DH was in Sioux Falls all week for a work conference. The day before he leaves, he was washing clothes and folding laundry (earning lots of "good hubby" points!) and packing his stuff for both trips. He came upstairs after one load with a look of panic/disgust. In his hand was his cell phone.
It was all nice and shiny.
And water may have been dripping out of it.
He forgot to check his pockets and his cell phone went through the spin cycle. And soak. And agitate. The water had worked it's way into every nook and cranny. We took it apart and dried it out over night.
The next morning I put it back together and crossed my fingers as I turned it on...
IT WORKS!!!!
He loaded up the car and headed out.
Later in the day Junior wanted to tell him about the new school clothes Grandma bought him, so we try calling. It rings. No answer. We tried throughout the day without luck. Hmmmmm... maybe it's not working. I'm thinking they have cell phone reception in South Dakota!
So I called the hotel number he left me around the time I thought he'd be getting in. "What was the name again? How do you spell that?" They have no one by his name registered.

Where is my dear husband?! And how can I get in touch with him?! Did he run off to Wall Drug to drink free water and pretend he's on his honeymoon to get a free donut?
A few minutes later an e-mail pops up in my inbox from him. He made it safe and sound. His phone is acting all whacky. And the hotel had misspelled his name.
Whew.
So staying in touch this week was tricky with his messed up phone. We had to communicate the "old fashion way" if he called me - using a *gasp* phone card!
Around 11am yesterday he left me a message from his cell phone - it was working momentarily! "They were taking an early lunch and he'd see me late tonight." Tried calling him back with no luck. The phone wasn't working again.
He told me the night before he wouldn't be leaving until around 5pm and it's a 6 hour drive. Since he wouldn't be home until that late and Junior was spending the night at my parents, I decided to run a bunch of errands, go home and eat breadsticks and marinara sauce for dinner, and work on packing. The evening was all mine!
So I'm standing outside the Sprint store about to get our old phone re-activated so DH can have a reliable, working phone for our trip next week. My phone rings and it's our home number on the caller id.
Now mind you, the only being that should be in our home at this point is our dog. I don't know what to be more scared about: that some stranger is in our house calling me or that the dog has figured out the finer skills of dialing a phone.
It was neither. It was DH, wanting to surprise me on our 9th anniversary. He had all these grand plans of ringing the doorbell and asking me to dinner.
Oops. He needs to tell me these things!
So my evening alone plans were foiled.
But a nice, child-free, adult conversation dinner with my husband was a wonderful alternative.
Happy Anniversary Bubba Mouse!
So instead of packing last night, I packed this morning. I've got pretty much everything in the bags, minus clothes. I'm heading home from work around noon and I'll pack Junior's clothes this afternoon while he's still at grandma and grandpa's house. Then I'll gather my things together this weekend. Probably after my
first DIS-meet with brookelizabeth and her family tomorrow while they're up north camping! Can't wait!!

(Oh, and did DH learn anything about checking pockets after washing his cell phone? Well, let's just say the next load he switched around, he came upstairs holding a dripping wet checkbook.

Maybe this is an evil ploy of his so that I'll never let him do laundry again... Sorry buddy, doesn't work that way!

)
