homework: Watching Debate

I would not be amused if my daughter came home with that for homework-First, I have NO desire to have that on a TV in my house and since she has to be up at 530 for school she will be sleeping during it and not up in time in the morning to watch it before school- she leaves at 640 so between a shower, contacts, make-up, breakfast there is no time to be watching TV in the morning.

We would have had a problem, too, as we don't have cable or any network stations. I imagine it would be available online, but I don't know if it was live.

Not before their term is up :confused3

There are recall elections for that. Not that it's easy, but it should not be easy. Getting someone out of office before their term is up should be difficult and only used in extreme cases. If it weren't we would just have anarchy.

Which was exactly my point, Presidents don't get ousted for not fulfilling campaign promises.

The Unfortunate thing about the debate, it is a TOTAL waste of time. You can sit there and listen and make your informed choice which is a very good thing, but it doesn't matter, they are all lying but it is fun to see how far their lies will go. Who cares what they say, it doesn't matter, none of them get the job done anymore. The only thing it does more me, is raise my blood pressure.
That's not how we see it here. We enjoyed the debate. The kids had some thoughtful comments that made me realize they've been paying attention. But what I also liked was that they talked about the candidates as people, not just politicians. My DS commented that he likes one of the candidates as a person, but can't get behind many of his policies. My DD stayed to watch the Romney and Obama families greeting eachother at the end, saying that they seemed to actually like eachother. Do they, in fact, like eachother? Who knows. :lmao: But IMO there was a hidden lesson in there about decorum and personability that is good for them to see. It doesn't always have to be nasty even when political views differ. Here in Boston, where politics gets down and dirty, every St. Patrick's Day in South Boston they have a political breakfast where everyone who's anyone in politics gets roasted. It's all in good fun and nice to have even one day where people can put their political differences aside and have a good time together.

I agree. There are a lot of lessons to be learned from a good debate. It was nice to hear directly from the candidates instead of the media spin (on both sides). I want my kids to understand how our election process works.

What boggles my mind are the staunch supporters who actually believe that their guy is better than anyone else.

I don't believe "my" guy is better than anyone else. I believe "my" guy is more likely than any other candidate to get done what he says...

Its funny how we all skirt around the politics we're not allowed to discuss :rotfl:.

DD12 goes to bed at 8-8:30 in our house (6th grade though). She's up at 5:30. Debate came on 8:00 p.m. local time here.

My guy is better than your guy... so there!:littleangel:
