Hi everyone!! I'm am trying to accumulate a list of Disers that would be interested in a Homeschool Board. You don't have to hs to add your post! :sunny: Anyone who is interested in education in general can find a myriad of resources.. teachers, parents,hs,daycare, and early education providers or anyone!!! :Pinkbounc Hopefully we will see what kind of interest there would be to proceed to the next step!! Thank you and I'll see you soon!!

I'd be interested. We do online distance learning and use the Calvert curriculum so I consider it the best of both worlds :) I am always looking at other things to supplement Nick's schooling though.

I'd be interested. We homeschool our two children dd 11, ds almost 7 in Pennsylvania.

Thanks,
Julie

I'm interested...I'm an Education Specialist for a home school charter.

I would be interested. I helped homeschool my dgrdd for several years and then my dd decided to send her to school 2 yrs. ago. She has learned nothing in the last two years and is going backwords now. She is so bored that she now can't be bothered to do her best. She does the minimum to get through. At first when she went to school she tried hard and was doing real well but the work was so below her level that she just couldn't be bothered anymore. I am looking at homeschooling her in the next year. I am going to try and talk to another homeschooler here in town and see if we can't make arrangements to help each other. If I go away she could take my dgrdd and if she needs help I will take her kids. They are all about the same age and know each other through dance. I also thought that maybe we could do a few "school trips" together. First I have to talk to my dd and see what she says.

I am not trying to debate what you are saying here, but I would really talk to your dgrdd about trying her best. If it is so easy that she has given up, she needs to realize that work situations may be boring one day and she just can't go "backwards" b/c it is below her.

As for homeschooling, my children attend school, but I love to enrich them at home. I have bought so many products from homeschoolers on ebay and would be very interested in a homeschooling board here on the DIS :Pinkbounc

I think a HS board would be great! :teacher:

I don't post a lot but I do read/lurk.

Thanks!

Add me to your list please.....I'm very interested!

I homeschool my boys, ages 11 & 12 :teacher:

I'd be interested. We homeschool our DD's 11 and 4. Teaching 4 year old to read right now. I'm with Kewz1, I don't post much but I do read/lurk often.

I'd be interested. I don't home school but love to see the different options out there.

I don't homeschool per se....but I DO enrich my boys at home and I would be very interested in a homeschool board. :)

I would also love to see a homeschool board!

I homeschool my DD 13, and my DS 6. We will be using the Abeka DVD program this year for him, and the Grace Academy On-Line Learning Program for my DD.

I'd be interested. I don't homeschool, but I do a lot of enrichment for me 3 gifted kids (two of whom are "scary" gifted, IYKWIM!). I'm always looking for good resources.

Sure I'd lurk/post. I just finished my 7th year of being homeschooled....I'm going to a real high school next year but it'd still be fun to read!

Dh and I looked into the Abeka DVD program this year too! It looks like it will be great! My only problem for my family is the cost, and it would be nice if you were allowed to keep the dvds to use for the next child. Let us know how the program works for you!!! :goodvibes

hentob The difference between school and work is that you are suppose to be learning not just doing. As well if you want to do more or work ahead I'm not sure of how many bosses would not let you do that. However, in her school they are given the work to do. The teacher, say gives them an hour to do it. She finishes it up in 10 min. Then has to sit on her hands and wait for the rest of the 50 min. for the rest of the class to finish. Since that happens with all her classes she is terrible bored. They don't want her doing things the others aren't and they don't seem to want to give her more advanced work to do as that means more work for the teacher. I am sorry but I don't know many kids that like to just sit for most of the day doing nothing. The only thing they have allowed her to do is read. She has read so many books, but even that starts being boring when that is all you do. When we homeschooled her as long as she understood the work and was able to do it easily we would go on to the next thing. She was always learning something. At grade 5 she is NOT in a work environment, she is in a learning environment

I can relate to the problems with lack of challenge in schools. We have been there done that - through homeschooling, dual enrollment, acceleration, online learning, Abeka, and speaking to colleges.... I think most of our battles are in the past now. I would love to offer help, however, if there are any questions I could answer or advice I could offer on a homeschooling board.

I currently have a freshman in high school that has the credits to graduate next year, plus several college credits under his belt. His latest ACT score was a 30, which gives him a good deal of academic money wherever he plans to further his education. The Dean of Admissions at a major university had nothing but good things to say about doing whatever it takes to obtain challenges for your children at a young age. Some public schools are just not getting the job done.

Good luck to all and let me know if there is any way I can help! :)

I start homeschooling my 5 year old this fall. :earseek: Getting curriculum is a nightmare! :guilty:
