Homecomin' and the dining plan

We'll be in Disney in January. Due to the price hike, I just added the regular dining plan to our booking (after playing with the numbers, we can save a little on the dining plan with our dining choices).

Anyway, we are going to Homecomin' at Disney Springs for dinner. Now, I read that some restaurants are willing to exchange desserts with starters. How is Homecomin's policy with that? Would we be able to exchange some of our desserts for starters?
Also, I would rather not have an entree, and prefer the starters. So, would they be willing to let me order a starter as part of my dining plan (instead of an entree)?

I don't think anyone allows an actual starter. Very few might allow a small side salad. They won't allow you to swap a starter for an entree, the plan is entree, beverage and dessert.

Even though starters are cheaper than the entrees?

yes. the entrees are included, starters are not.

If you would prefer starters then don't get the DDP. it's not a good fit.
