I'm thinking of buying in and had a ? about home resort points.

Do you have to have enough home resort points to "pay" for your entire reservation when booking at your home resort at the 11 month mark?

For example:
Say I have 25 points at BCV and 500 points at Vero, would I be able to reserve a 10 night stay in a 2BR at BCV at the 11 month mark?

At the BCV 11-month mark, you could only book using your 25 points in your current use year. You could use your 500 Vero points to book Vero, and then try and switch to BCV at the 7-month mark.

If you wanted to use more BCV points, you could borrow 25 from the following use year, or if you had any banked from a previous use year, you could use those. So you could at one time use 75 BCV points from three years worth of your BCV points. Hope this helps!

Of course people will advise to buy where you want to stay. We bought in 1994 when there was only OKW but have not had any issues in 12 years getting our reservations at 11 months or 7 months. It does take some planning ahead but that's the fun of it. Counting down the days.

There is a resale market and buying direct from disney. Right now there is a price promo at SSR if you get a referral from a current member. They are offering $ 86.00 per point. The resale market is going to save you a few dollars however there's the year difference 50 years from DVC and 36 years on most resales.

To your point, the points at BCV would allow you to book out 11 months only using 25 points at BCV. Same for VB, book out 11 months at VB. Booking at any other resort would be at 7 months.

Good luck with your decision.

Over the lifetime of your contract, the total dues paid will be more than your initial buy-in costs. VB currently has the highest annual dues so if that trend continues, VB's total cost of ownership will be higher than the other DVC resorts.

If you think about it, if someone owned 25 points at BCV and 500 at VB, and could use all 525 to book BCV at 11 months, wouldn't that totally defeat the purpose of a home resort booking advantage?

If that was the case, I'd own 25 points at every resort, and have the vast majority of my points at the resort with the lowest dues. :teeth:
