Now while this may not be exciting to anyone else, this is a big deal for us here in NYC. I LOVE Home Depot and the nearest one for years was in either Brooklyn or NJ. Now we have on just a short subway ride away on 23rd St. in NYC. Lisa and I spent over an hour oohing and aahing and wishing and planning........

The store is a little different from other Home Depots in that lumber, drywall and insulation must be ordered and delivered to your home. They also have a larger then usual selection of decorating supplies, fixtures and hardware. There were 2 aisles of drawer pulls alone!! They also have a large tool rental space and a conceirge. It was pretty funny to see men in doorman like suits with Home Depot orange stripes hailing cabs for customers with very large purchases.

We stocked up on batteries, cleaning stuff, lightbulbs and a few other things that are exorbitantly priced in other local establishments. For us, that made our day.

I never thought about that! How great for you to now have Home Depot at your disposal. I guess since I don't live in a city like NY, I take some things for granted.

Oops, I should have read the OP more carefully, I would have seen that lumber has to be delivered. Duh.

How cool for you. I used to live in San Francisco, and although we used to grumble about the homogenization of everything and all the chain stores moving in I do remember my mom coming to town and me taking her car and driving out of town to a Target and thinking it was like a palace. I was so amazed that everything was in one place and so affordable, LOL. Now I'm in the suburbs and have a Home Depot, Lowe's and a Target 2 minutes away. Still miss the city life though!

I just saw the commercial for this store the other day! I haven't been so happy since Best Buy opened. :) I have to say, the things I've missed most while living here were those and Walmart. The Kmart in Manhattan is still just a little weird to me.

I just got a flyer in the mail about it! Glad to hear the prices are good! I'll probably try to go next weekend.

But you didn't pick up any lime green (alien green, to be specific) Mickey ear paint samples for your next trip to WDW???

No kidding! I thought I was the only one dancing around about Manhattan Home Depot. Not since opening of the Container Store in Chelsea and KMart in Astor Place had I been this excited.

Haven't been there yet, and I know they're not going to stock up big clay pots or plywood sheets.

Just last weekend, I specifically made a trip to KMart to do grocery shopping (well, after good dinner and drinks in the village). The check out guy was shocked that I was actually buying cleaning supply. He said, "why will anyone come here at nite to buy 48 pack of toilet paper? Everyone just buy beer and chips." I told him because it'll cost me twice as much anywhere else in the city.

And there is nothing like hailing a cab with 6 big bags of KMart stuff. Only in NYC. :)

We also LOVE the Container Store!!!!! Their prices cannot be beat on certain items. We have now given Container Store Gift certificates to loads of our friends. It is full of practical and reasonably priced containers of all sorts....from bags and suitcases to canisters for your kitchen, laundry containers and shelves of all sorts, frames, envelopes and wrapping. In other words a store that everyone needs.

I also found K-mart a bit wierd....but absolutely necessary as far as price is concerned. We usually do our grocery shopping once each month in NJ, but find K-mart useful from time to time. I much prefer the one in the Village over the one on 34th St.

Now if we would only get a Target, Walmart and a Kohls I would be in absolute heaven.
