Holy moly

I've said this before and I'll say it again... Why not a Tiziminchac Board? I'll be the Mod and everyone can post about stuff that interests me. I think it's a great idea! :teeth:

I'm not going to comment on Dan's threads and his motives and whether or not it was effective because I wasn't here and I didn't see it.

I do share his opinion (and apparently a lot of people also do)that this community board has become less of a community and more of a clique board and it gets pretty irritating. It's all well and good to say anyone can join but the truth is that *some* of the cliques are pretty exclusionary. They might say that anyone can post but the reality is that new people are pretty much ignored. Now mind you I said SOME of these cliques, not all so please spare me any huffy retorts that your clique doesn't do it.

I personally have no problem with individual clique threads. Sure they're annoying but easy to identify and move past. The problem is that there's not just one of them for some cliques. There's just no need for some cliques to have multiple threads on the first page. If you guys have that much to say to each other that involves branching out into more than 1 thread then really - cough up some cash and get your own board to post your personal conversations. I'm sure it will do wonders in easing up the "server busy" messages that annoy us all and will slow down traffic here a bit.

Even more than the clique threads, I find the recent posting countless threads of asking who else misses ***insert pet name here**** irritating. Especially when those people have their own clique thread. Yes I know you're friends but really does the whole CB need to listen in on your personal conversation when it's obvious most of us have no idea who that person is (based on the most recent post). Can't you just have 1 "I miss my friends" thread instead of 5?
And the hijacking is even worse. It's immature and just plain rude. Just because people have friends they like to converse with doesn't make it ok to turn a thread into your drinking fest or whatever just because you've gotten tired of the conversation.

I'm not saying the mods should be heavy handed with threads and no fluff threads allowed but can't you guys see how too much of them drives people away? If you want to rule a board seriously get your own. It's not fair to people that are looking for answers to their disney questions or other things when search is down because the server is busy. there's got to be a compromise here somewhere that almost everyone can live with

Okay, I haven't read all these pages, but I sense an odd feeling on the CB this morning and I must have missed something major. What I gather is that some extremely long, clique threads have been eliminated and we've got some folks that are pretty peeved about it. This is all I've gotten so far. However, my 2 cents are that they have gotten entirely too lengthy and take up a lot of band with so there does need to be some sort of solution...how am I doin' so far?

The thing too is any newbie coming on and seeing all these types of threads may decide to just hit the back button and find another place to go.
Afterall, word of mouth is the best advertising.

Actually, nope, the uber-annoying clique threads haven't been eliminated. But a lot of people wish they would be. (Or at least moved somewhere else!)

Bravo, Jenz! Once again, well said!
I think it is the hijacking that really gets me. Threads go off topic and that is understandable. The clear hijacking is, as Jen said, just rude.

Some comments that someone posted on a clique thread. Maybe they were trying to disrupt it?? I think people are frustrated with the lack of consistancy and the fact that these comments were removed but when others hijack a thread (sometimes clique people) nothing is done. Also, that they take up to much board space.

I strictly clicked on this thread because it said Holy Moly ;) :grouphug:

Me, too, preshi!! :rotfl:

Well.... actually I clicked on it because Dan Murphy said "Holy Moly"!! ;)

Holy Moly Holy Moly Holy Moly.

I just wanted to "say" that my self.

Sorry, I hope I did not hi jack the thread.

This is so true! I have done this on a few "other" boards I WAS on, but managed to still hang out here......now, I am not so sure...... :guilty: I think I will be "skipping the CB" all together, and just post on the other Subject boards. :confused3 I am tired of ALL the nonsense threads, and yes I even responded to a few of them, but realized I was becoming ONE of them! :sad2:

Who is "them"? And why is it so terrible.

While some posters are afraid clique threads will chase new people off, I think threads such as this can have the same effect. This isn't exactly a very friendly thread.

:tiptoe:

Mr. Dan, you rock! lol, :thumbsup2 You made a very good point ::yes::
Me and my Mom had a theory of why you were posting the things you did, and it turned out to be right. ::yes::

Well, we know he wouldn't have said Holy crap. After all, then he'd have to PM himself to "warn" himself in a not-so-subtle way that he was doing his best to get that thread locked and the posters in said thread banned. :rolleyes1

Yep for under ten bucks anyone can start their own board, call it whatever you like and invite as many people as you want. Just think of the possibilities, your own board, you're the moderator and anything can be said without people harping about you. Hijack away! It's your board! (your being a collective "your/you're", not directed at anyone in particular)

Two boards come to mind, Ezboards and InvisionFree. :thumbsup2

Oh, and before I'm accused of hijacking this thread, rock on Dan! I hope you enjoyed your evening! :)

OK, please explain.....what exactly are you talking about????? Because I stopped reading this thread after page 3????? So what??? Was something here that I missed??? My response would still be the same. Or, did you happen to quote me and Swedishmeatball because we "clique" and post together???? You know what??? Don't even respond, I'm leaving this thread....***????

I'll explain it to you, despite the fact that you say you won't listen to an explanation.

You were quoted as saying something like "just ignore it and don't visit those threads" so she quoted you and then quoted another post that came on THIS thread (not another thread we could choose not to visit) as an effort to point out the hijackings that people are upset about.

For most of us, it's not about "those threads" it's about the hijackings on regular threads where people are conversing and all of a sudden a group of people with inside jokes take over the conversation and turn in into a clique thread.

Well, who would have thought they had their own board--I always thought they couldn't possibly have their own board with the time they spend here on the DIS going back and forth about nothing, passing the cyber drinks, etc., etc., etc. I'm betting that is what Blondie thought also. How could anyone possibly have sooo much time on their hands! :confused3 :rotfl:
