Hey all you recent dis-brides how much were the tuxedo's for your wedding? DS11 is in DN's wedding and we went today to Mens Warehouse for a fitting and to put down a deposit and it's $157:scared1: OMG I had a cow. I was like is there a deposit that I get back when I bring the tux back the next day? No she said. Wow really, now I got married 20 years ago but our tux's were like $50 to rent but they had to pay more can't remember how much more but when they brought the tux back the next day they got the deposit back. I was not expecting a little kids tux to cost that much. Now that is with a $40 discount but I was so taken aback by the final cost that I don't know if the discount is because he's a little kid or just because of maybe the size of the wedding party??? So is this about right for the times now? I just can't get over it. The girls dresses were $165 and at least they get to keep the dress, can't believe I'm just out this money. To make matter worse my DN told me we wouldn't have to pay he'd get his free. When I asked the girl she said only one person gets a free rental and the couple picked the groom. Which I'm fine with really just was surprised to see how much the tux rentals went up. Wondered if a tux place would've been cheaper then Mens Warehouse.

I got married a little over a year ago and we rented our tuxes from a tux shop and they were a little cheaper then that. I just looked at my wedding spreadsheet and we spent $306 on tuxes. That was 3 $25 deposits (that we didnt get back), a child's tux and the best man's tux (My husband's was free) So, they were about $140 each

I feel your pain. My twin boys were in a wedding 2 years ago. The tuxedos were nearly that much (X2). :scared1:

Were are going on a Disney cruise in September. I got each a new tux with everything (jacket, pants, shirt two ties, and vest) but the shoes and socks for $35.00 each off of eBay. (And they are nice wool and more of a suit, so they can hopefully wear them again for Christmas.) (If I had only known two years ago!)

My secretary is the one who told me about eBay - they got all their tuxs for their wedding that way.

A friend's son (9 yo) was in a wedding and they found a kid's white tux at a consignment shop for $50. They took a photo, called the bride from the shop and she said it was fine. The boy was wearing white and the groomsmen black, so it wasn't like he HAD to match.

I am helping with a wedding for our DN and I found Tux by Lito the little kids one are about 50 bucks and the big kids are 60. Maybe look in your area for someone who sells them.

I am taking a page from the etiquette files. Is the tux rental going to be a huge burden on you? If so, then politely decline to have your son in the wedding. While it's nice to be asked if it's going to be a budget-buster be up front and honest and tell the bride/groom that while it was an honor that you asked DS to take part in your day, it's something we can't afford to do at this time.

Personally? I would never lay out that kind of money for the "privilege" of being in someone's wedding. I find people to be extremely selfish when it comes to wedding plans --- they expect people to lay out hundreds of dollars for special clothing, travel, hotel, etc and then expect a gift or an envelope on top of it.

If you can't afford the $157, then don't do it. See if you can find a tux in a thrift store, Freecycle, or a consignment shop/children's shop. If not, politely decline your son being in the wedding.

When DS was in my sister's wedding a couple of years ago it was actually cheaper to BUY his tuxedo than rent it from the same shop. :confused3 So at 7 years old he owned his own tux. The plan at the time was to then sell it on Craigslist or something... I just realized we never did that. I'll have to get it out and on there for the upcoming wedding season.

This, this, a 100 X's this!!!!! When I took my little guy to get fitted at the same time as his Dad (DH, DS3, and I were all in this wedding) and when I saw the price list for my little one, I called the bride and asked if we could buy one. After she heard the cost, she agreed! We bought my son a tux for $38 at Burlington coat factory. I took the bride with and she picked it out! My dress was way to long so the seamstress used the excess to make my son a matching vest for his tux. It cost less then $15 for his custom vest and he matched the wedding party!!!

DH was in a friend's wedding 2 months before ours. The friend went to Men's Wearhouse as well...even with a discount, we still had to pay $200 for the tux. Money we really didn't have, as we were trying to pay for our own wedding, but we sucked it up as it was his closest friend.

For ours, we'd gone to a bridal show in January; me, my mother, MIL and SIL made him sit through a fashion show from a local, very tiny formals shop. The models were throwing coordinated tux ties into the audience for prizes and DH caught one (well, it actually landed in his lap while he was dozing off). When we went to the table to get our prize, we were happy to find out that it was for $50 rentals, unlimited number! When we actually went to the shop, the one he picked out was the newest style that normally rented for $120, so we got an excellent deal!

10 years ago, my DH's tux was $70 to rent. We went to a shop that provides tuxes for all the other bridal shops, so the same tux he rented would have been over $100 somewhere else. The best man rented a similar tux and our two little ring bearers wore the cheapest tuxes the store had, $35 or $40. Our dads and ushers wore their best suits and I bought them all matching ties. We were on a very tight budget, and I was concerned about the best man coming up with $70 to rent a tux. I can't imagine $157 for a child's tuxedo!! I would definitely look into buying a tux or suit for your son at that rental price!

That's why when I got married we bought my husband a very nice suit and we at least get to keep it and he's used it several times since then.

When a friend of mine got married a few years ago my husband was an usher and had to rent the tux. It was about $120 and i was SHOCKED!!!! He could have bought a decent suit at a discount place like Syms or JC Penny for that money and he didn't get any back.

Hey OP, are you going to keep the Mens Wearhouse order?

I just got a $40 off tux rental coupon in the mail for Men's Wearhouse. It was part of a prom advertising booklet. My son isn't going to prom- so he won't use it. If you want it, I"ll keep it for a day and just let me know how to send it out to you.

Discount expires June 30, 2012. (not for a specific MW either). Never mind, it sounds like you used it already.

As for kids suits, try JC Penney, Syms or even Kohl's. They seem to have nice separates there.

My daughter got married last summer. They guys rented tux's from Al's Formal Wear (I always want to say Al's Toy Barn!) and the cost was $100 each for the wedding party and the groom's tux was free.

That being said, AFW did a TERRIBLE job with their fittings. The guys ended up not even wearing the jackets because they fit so poorly. I don't know if it was just bad luck with their sales associate or one of those "you get what you pay for" situations.

When my son was in my niece's wedding as ring bearer, I refused to do the child's tux thing and bought him a suit for next to nothing at Burlington Coat Factory. It looked better than a rented tux, was far cheaper, and he got to wear it a few more times.

We didn't have any children in DD's wedding (almost 3 years ago), but that's about right for the tuxedo rentals then. My son-in-law paid for all of the groomsmen.

This is what I did for my son and DN for my sister's wedding. This was just last year. We found tuxes for DS 6yo at the time and DN 3yo at the time to match and cheaper than the tux rental. They both reused them for Halloween!!

Thanks I got that coupon too and took it with us hoping to use it but couldn't cause it's only for Prom Tux's WTH? Whatever. Maybe I will look around for a tux I can buy, I think my neice would be ok with that if it fit in. It's not that I can't afford it, just think it's a lot. We have 3 family weddings this year and a new baby being born(another niece not mine!) so between all the showers and gifts I'm spending a small fortune on all my neices and nephews. Just trying to cut wherever I can. But it sounds like this is the going rate for tuxs, wow I'm just out of the loop. Kinda how my grandpa used to always complain about the price of a loaf of bread cause he remembered when it was a nickel:laughing:

We bought tuxes and the boys wore them on cruises and to prom several times. I usually make vests to match the girl's dresses. They wore them at my oldest two kid's weddings. Best money I ever spent! DH has one too.

When BIL used Mens Wearhouse 2 years ago I was astonished at the cost. He had asked my DH, DS, and DD to be in this wedding. We decided that we could only afford for DH to participate. DH tried to discuss with the bride the possibility of purchasing matching black suits (the price was the same as the tux rental) - but she wouldn't back down. Mens Wearhouse included 2 free suits as a special and the groom kept both of those for himself.......

To make matter worse my DN told me we wouldn't have to pay he'd get his free. When I asked the girl she said only one person gets a free rental and the couple picked the groom.

Have you checked with your DN about this? If she said YOURS was to be free, maybe there is some snafu where they allocated the freebie to the wrong person.
