Also, I agree about anger management issues. No way would I defend Michael and he probably does have some sort of frustrations towards other races, but sometimes people just let their mouth overload their ***. It would take a lot though for him to ever recover from this. There are some lines that once crossed, there is just no turning back.

if both parties had ignored eachother then it would have played out much better. neither one of them should have said anything. it's both of their faults. it doesn't just lie on one person. why would you pay money to go see a comedian, and then talk and be rude during his show?? and then why would you be rude to paying people coming to see you? see what i mean?

Are you honestly trying to justify what he did? Yes it was stupid and rude that the man started that crap. But nothing he said justified Richards tirade. On one hand you've got a rude heckler and on the other hand an out of control racist. There is no way those two are equal.

TONE has nothing to do with Double standards, you can take any word and make it hurtfull with the right(or wrong) tone. Now you take a negative word and use it during a fit of rage and there is no question...

I have a hard time believing that you would call the cops if a friend told you "I am going to kill you" while laughing about boys(or any other topic), I am sure you can tell what was said in a joking manor and what was not.

well first of all.......don't make assumptions about me. "a lot of young people think like this".......i don't appreciate it. you don't know that much about me to go making those assumptions.

I'm not making assumptions, I'm making statments based on my beliefs based on years of seeing and talking to young people, whom I work with daily. I was stating my belief about "them" - why do YOU assume I meant you?? Because, it was in a context that related to you, thats why. You based your opinion on what I said - just as I based mine on what you (and others) said....thats how it works.

When I used to go to comedy clubs a lot "hecklers" were standard fair for the night. I didnt much like it but it was "expected" and most of the comedians had their own way of dealing with them. I think thats why people are not excusing it to anger - he should have expected it, but then people say he hasnt done much standup.

uhm......no.....if you read my post, i said they were both at fault. i didn't say anything else but that. is it because i used the word "rude" for what Richards said?? because i could have used some other choice words, but i really didn't think they were appropriate for the boards.

My 13 y o saw this segment on utube and asked me why it is bad when white people use the N word when many black people call each other that, it is often in rap songs, etc.? I really don't have a good explanation for it. I think it's awful and cringe whenever I hear it but it does bug me that it's perceived as worse when a white person says it. He also asked if there is a term for whites equally as offensive. There are many terms I don't care for but I'm not sure there is a term on the same level.

I think one thing you could tell your son is about reappropriation of derogatory terms. For instance, f*ggot and d*ke are still commonly used slurs that are aimed at gay and lesbian people, and they're still horribly offensive and hurtful. But gay and lesbian people often use the terms themselves in a jestful way. One way to understand this is trying to take away some of the psychological power of the word. If I refer to myself and other gay friends as d*kes it might not hurt so bad when people yell it too us out of a car or leave a nasty note on our door or something.

A 13 year old might be understand this regarding the use of the word "fat." Usually, when average sized people call overweight people "fat" it's often out of a feeling of disgust or hatred. But sometimes overweight people call themselves fat and it's not out of hatred or disgust at themselves; it can actually be a kind of self-protection.

Now, of course, not everyone gay or lesbian person likes to use the F and D words, and not every overweight person likes to talk about themselves as fat, and not every black person feels comfortable with the N word. But I think for those who do use these words, this is part of the reasoning.

I had a teacher who was older and had seen some ugly bits of what happened during the 60s. Seperate restrooms, no eating at the counter kind of stuff and she found it disgusting when younger black men and women used the word. She said she felt it was a spit in her face for all she had went through before they came into the world. So, I think it's disrespectful no matter who uses it.

And if the guy called him a "cracker," then that makes them both pieces of trash. They're both disgusting, if that's the case. I swear, why are people so ignorant?

that's what i saw when i watched the video. that the audience member said something first, and then he went off. and i agree, i find the word "Cracker" offensive as well. but i don't think that either of them(the audience member and Richards) handled the situation very well.

i'm not taking sides here, either. but for some reason, me saying "they were both at fault" turns around to be "omg i'm SO on his side!"....which i'm not.

and apparently calling someone Cracker is ok, but "N" is ......in Kelly Rippa's words......"oh that's a BIG no-no!" which....i really don't agree with. i think both terms are offensive the same.

it's not made as big a deal when someone yells "D*ke" than it is when someone yells "N" tho. i think that's what has some people still confused as to why it's "ok" for some people to use, but not ok for others to use.

i can totally understand your teacher's point of view. it was always MY thinking of "why would you want to call your 'friend' that horrible name!?" it doesn't sound very "endearing" to me.

On the video I saw Kramer went off first, then the word "cracker" was used. (Maybe there's another video out there that starts earlier that you saw?) Anyway, I don't condone the use of the word "Cracker", but even if it were said first it would not justify what he said. I don't see how anyone can compare the word cracker to the N word given the history of white racism against blacks in this country.

I don't know where you work or why they have rap music playing. But I don't understand how it's relevant at all to the point that "Kramer" is a disgusting a**hole who apparently has some deep seated hatred for black people. The heckler is certainly also an a**hole and he may very well have some deep seated hatred for white people--but he's not a celebrity!

I agree...I did not even know the negative connotation to cracker until about a year ago...and I am 44! It is meaningless to me......
