I just returned from Hollywood Studios and we experienced some amazingly good luck, but also horribly bad luck! A little background...my brother got a job at WDW so my mom and I drove down with him, got him settled, and then went to one day at HS! We only knew a few weeks in advance so we didn't have any ADR's
The Good:
We got in to SciFi the day of with no ADR
I got an ADR to Oga's 2 days in advance
We bypassed the 70-minute wait at Slinky Dog (this has to do with the bad)
Got boarding group 3 for ROTR
The Bad:
ROTR, RNR, and Minnie and Mickey's Runaway Railway broke down on us!
I have not been to WDW in about 12 years, but DL many, many times so I was super excited! I had been checking for Sci Fi ADR's, but had no luck. I really wanted to eat there because it is very nostalgic. I also really wanted to go to Oga's to get out of the heat and because it is so fun! Luckily a friendly member on here had an ADR they were going to drop so we coordinated and I was able to pick it up!
The day started out great! We had an Oga's ADR and I had scored boarding group 3 for ROTR. Score! We arrived at 930, but they were not currently calling BG's so we got in line for Minnie and Mickey's Runaway Railway. About 5 minutes into our wait I got notified that our BG was ready. Since we hadn't been waiting too long, we got out of line to ride ROTR. Once we got there, the ride had broken down! So we made the treck back to Minnie and Mickey, waited about 30 minutes, and it broke down! By this point it was around 11 or so and we had done nothing but walk around in the heat. We got out of line, watched the vacation short, and then I got notified it was time for our BG.
As we headed to ROTR, I decided to stop at Sci Fi to see if there was a waitlist. The host was so friendly and honestly gave me hope to an otherwise rough start of the day. He said to keep coming back and that eventually he'll say they have a table lol. We rode ROTR and then checked at Sci Fi again. He said they could get us in at one of the picnic tables! Things were looking up!
Sci Fi was great! We then went into the line for Minnie and Mickey for the 3rd time lol and got on in about an hour. I LOVED this ride! We then rode TOT with only about a 30 minute wait. Things were going smoothly until we went in line for RNR... we waited about 30 minutes, and guess what? IT BROKE DOWN! They made us all leave the queue. I decided to talk to one of the CM to see if there was anything they could do. They gave us a FP for RNR so we wouldn't have to wait again when it reopened.
At this point, we didn't have too much time until our Oga's ADR so we rode TOT again and headed over there. We all had fun drinks and a great time. The park was only open for another hour at this point and I noticed that RNR was still closed. We really wanted to experience Toy Story Land, especially Slinky Dog so I decided to check if we could use the FP for Slinky Dog. They let us! We walked right on ant it was so fun and cute! We quickly went on to Alien Swirling Saucers and then got in line for Minnie and Mickey for the 4th time haha to ride right before closing. RNR never reopened and I'm sad I didn't get to ride it.
I'm still not sure how to describe the day. We accomplished a lot of the impossible, but also had bad luck with break downs. I wasn't going to let the break downs or heat ruin my day because I was so excited to be there!
