Hollywood and Vine better than Garden Grill.

I consider GG the worst. I thought it was horrible and would never go back there. We have reservations for Hollywood and Vine and wanted to know how you compared the two. One better than the other? Both bad?

I just ate at GG this past November and haven't eaten at H&V since 2007, but IMO, H&V is like a bad Denny's buffet. We hated the food and left there hungry (it was dinner). I think hospital food is better than theirs.

There is no comparison to the GG's warm bread and fresh salad. I prefer GG even though I only ate their turkey.

We love Garden Grill. We think the breakfast at Hollywood and Vine is okay, but mainly go for the characters each trip. :goodvibes

H&V breakfast is pretty great - lunch & dinner is a different story. Bleh. It was like golden corral. I'm sorry you had a poor experience at Garden grill - what didn't you like? I've never had a bad meal there - it's one of my favorites!! Everything is so fresh and tasty.

H & V dinner is one of only 2 restaurants in all of WDW we will NEVER go back to. We were surrounded by dirty, unbussed tables, the waitress was rude to us, the Ladies Room was Filfthy, the hot food was not hot, the cold food was not cold. The only good thing was the soft serve ice cream. It was a miserable experience.

We went to GG on our last trip in August and I wasn't blown away. My fiance loved it, but we both decided it wasn't something we'd go out of our way to do again. The ambiance was fantastic, but I don't think it was my taste food-wise. Everything was very fresh, though.

As for H&V, we've never been there mostly because we weren't interested in the characters at breakfast, so I can't speak for it!

Garden Grill has become a 'must do' for our family of six. We all were very happy with it. We, however, won't be going back to Hollywood and Vine. It's almost like they just want to have so many things on their buffet that they fill it with food that just isn't good. We are not picky but the six of us were not happy with what was there. The only good thing was the desserts...Plus, it's a bonus to get to see Mickey at GG :)

Everybody has their own opinion on food. Most people here tend to love GG and hate H & V. The nice thing about GG is the variety of food they offer. I find that most buffets at Disney do not offer a great deal of variety and somehow H&V seems to take whatever the other buffets decided not to serve. Man that is harsh, but it really is that bad. I wonder if the management at H&V ever reads these boards. Do they take pride in being the worst of the worst.:confused3

It depends on why you did not like about GG. The food there is quite different than that of a buffet but we found it a higher quality and quite good. GG is set up VERY different than any other Character meal as you basically only see your table. We loved that but you may not have. No other meal has that set up. We found Character interaction there wonderful and service fine to good. (we were here last week)

H&V (been a little while on this one)- We found the food to be lower quality than any of the other Character buffets. I would not call it gross, but no better than your much cheaper and lower price chain buffets. Service was GREAT. Characters I am having trouble remembering. We have done a lot of these meals and that does not really stick out one way or another.

Is there a reason you are only looking at these two. There are other meals that might be a better fix for you. We love breakfast with Donald at AK, Eating with Pooh at MK, and while we are not huge fans of the food, the Characters at Chief Mickey can not be beat. Plenty of princess meals too and we have done some of these too so ask if you are interested!

We really enjoyed Garden Grill last year. The service was great and so was the food (hot and fresh). We loved Chip and Dale for a change. We went to Play and Dine for breakfast last year and loved it too. The food was fine but the service was great. The character interaction was the best we've ever experienced. Maybe it was because the restaurant was almost empty but it was great

I absolutely HATE H&V. I find it to be beyond disgusting and will never eat there again. Ate at GG last August and loved it! The salad and oat bread was amazing, and I thought the meats were higher quality than most buffet's. And the cobbler was wonderful!

What exactly did you not like about GG?

GG is way better then H&V! In my opinion H&V is the worst food I've had at a Disney restaurant

I've never ate at garden grill. We did do a breakfast at Hollywood and vine and it was fine ... but I wouldn't go there for the food. It's definitely not an upscale buffet and I don't think I'd even say it's a moderate buffet. I think food options are what you might expect from a budget buffet. It was the kind of spread you might pay $5.99 or so for elsewhere.
I don't regret our experience there - but I don't think I would do it again - at least not when you can meet those characters in the park.

We ate at H&V last time for breakfast & absolutely loved it. We were the first family of the day and the buffet was untouched when we got to go up... I thought they had a lot to offer and the characters were fantastic. I would go back for sure... never been to GG.

H&V is also on our list of only 2 we will not return to. In fact, the last time we ate there was 5 years ago and we never returned. It really was not good. Characters were different then so I'm not sure how they work now. We waited FOREVER for the characters to make their way to us. Every few tables they were stopped and had to go do a dance. UGH. It was a terrible experience for us. The food was awful. Really awful.

By their own admission, many of the people commenting on H&V haven't been there for some time. It seems to have changed, both in theme and the quality of the food. We walked into it today for lunch, without knowing much about it and found it to be very good. The lunch is now a "Play and Dine" (or "Dine and Play--I forget which) with characters from Disney Junior. Although my adult DD and I didn't know the characters, the younger children were mesmerized. The characters interacted frequently and very well with the kids and there were several periods where the characters got all the kids up to dance with them.

The food was generally very good. Excellent hot dishes--three types of chicken preparations for adults along with salmon, beef short ribs cooked in ale and meatballs and the usual chicken nuggets and mac and cheese for kid. The side dishes were mixed--garlic mashed potatoes and spoon bread were disappointing but the string beans and polenta were good. The usual buffet desserts. Service was friendly and fine. I'm not sure exactly what the motif is supposed to be. Mostly it just looks like it was left over from the prior incarnation and I have know idea why the wait staff was wearing sort of Victorian costumes. But, as I said before, the kids were having a great time, regardless of the decor.

It wasn't fine dining, but it was a good lunch and I wouldn't hesitate to return to it.

We had a H&V ADR for breakfast to meet the DJr characters & I had low expectations from reviews online. H&V was either vastly improved or maybe it was b/c we had an early 9am reservation, IDK. H&V was very clean, the food was fresh, the staff was friendly & things tasted great!!! I loved the make your own breakfast burritos.Yummy!!! :thumbsup2
