We are making our first holiday trip to WDW (December 29 - January 4). I've heard that one of the cooler off-the-beaten path things to do is to view decorated campsites at Fort Wilderness during the holiday season. For those of you who have done this before, is it reasonable to expect a decent experience closer to New Year's or are people packing up and leaving by then?

Most people stay until Jan 1 or 2. You will most definitely get the full Christmas experience with your dates. :santa:

Many of the big decorators are there well past the new year. We did the holiday week once, I will tell you that New Years Day is pretty busy in MK. Now that we are not traveling with school aged kids, we actually are arriving at disney the weekend after the new year for our stay.

Hi, I'm new to the Dis boards so excuse me if I'm posting this in wrong place. I will be travelling to Orlando around the 10th October and I hear that Fort Wilderness campers decorate for Halloween. Would this be to early to see the decorations? I was thinking of hiring a golf cart to explore the decorations. Could anybody give me any information on this

1) Anytime from early November until early January The Fort is alive. *
. . . alive with WDW lights
. . . alive with super friendly people
. . . alive with campsite decorations
. . . alive with creative camper golf carts
. . . alive with the Holiday Spirit
. . . alive with even more courteous CM's
2) It is my most favorite time to work at, or visit, The Fort!

* Even more Alive than "Number-5".

Even more Alive than "Number-5"? Have I heard this in a movie before??? Maybe "Short Circuit)?? Just a guess......

They are awesome both Christmas and Halloween!! It just feels like vacations that I used to have as a kid and viewing the decorations is one of my favorite things to do during that time of year!!

Chris,

I'm late to answering you but there are decorations set up by campers in the Fort in October so I think it is worth it to go see it.

I would recommend renting a cart from Disney if you want (though it's not needed) for $65 per day (includes tax). But some loops with lots of decorations around the loop 100/200, 700, 400 nexus I would recommend visiting on foot.

There are going to be decorations in many other loops where the golf cart would be helpful. Go slowly, enjoy the view, and watch out for other folks.

I'd want to hear how your visit went if you would post it here.

:welcome: to the DIS Boards :disrocks:
