Holiday next year??

Hello

Other than those of you going to WDW or DLP or DLC next year, where are you going for your hols?

Originally we were thinking of braving the Xmas crowds and going to WDW on 23rd Dec thru to Jan 6th and completing blowing the budget, but we do really want kids soon, and think that we might start trying next year in the summer, so that means we won't be going to WDW.

So we are trying to think of somewhere else to go before we start trying for a baby, or if we are lucky and get pregnant, then maybe somewhere when I am preggers but then it will have to be nothing to active.

We don't fancy a beach type holiday (greek islands, majorca etc.).

We fancy going somewhere where we can explore (maybe a city by the water?) or going somewhere where we can go and spot animals (but not a safari - too expensive!) and we also both love snow!!

Any ideas?

For exploration both Paris and Barcelona are beautiful cities with plenty to offer

The only thing I've got bookes so far for next year is a grand canyon/las vegas trip,
I would back up Barcelona as a nice city break, also Naples in Italy or Venice offer great exploration.

We visited Paris when I was pregnant. At first i was a bit wary of a lot of walking, but we just went at a slow pace. I was around 18 weeks, so I was over the initial tiredness and sickness, so that helped. Oh, and the Cruise down the Seine was a great place to catch an afternoon nap....LOL!!!

And Paris could also include a wee quick visit to the mouse

I might be able to get a week or midweek break to Oasis at Penrith I suppose....I like it there.
But we are going to WDW for 3 weeks, so (a) it doesnt leave much money, and (b) It doesnt leave much time off work available.

We're going on a cruise to Venice and Dubrovnik in May and back to WDW in Oct. A cruise is a lot different to a beach holiday and you get to visit different places.

Hmmm...Paris is lovely but I have been there before.
Fancy going somewhere new.

Maybe Venice or Barcelona.

But seriously I love the cold and snow so it would prob be perfect for me, but maybe a little expensive.

Is it snowy in Finland or Iceland all year round?

Possibly Iceland??

Not really all year round although it depends on what time of the year you go! you'll still get good snow in Iceland up til about end April. and after that it'll be patchy but still atmospheric, its a great place for exploration although is VERY expensive to eat out etc. If you're going april through to about October you'll unfortunately have to go to the opposite side of the world for good snow, do you ski or is it just the snowy atmosphere you're after? If you like mountains and lakes etc then summer in Austria or Switzerland is very pretty and the top mountains will be snow covered but not ski worthy!

Hmmmm....Austria and Switzerland sound nice.

We don't ski.

We like the idea of lots of walks through snowy woods, and lots of nice belly warming alcoholic beverages in log cabin type places.

I think we will have to do some research.

Also if you're intending to go to Austria or Switzerland during may - late september you'll find it'll be tons cheaper than a package beach holiday.
How about going for somewhere pretty much off the regular tourist trail, ie sicily, sardinia, the azores, corsica,
loads more suggestions if you want them!

New York is without a doubt the best city I have ever visited. We bought into vacation ownership as we just knew it would be somewhere we would continually visit and never get bored of. The flights are bearable (7 hours) and if you do a little bit of searching you can get some very low fares. There is so much to see and do, that even a week wouldn't scratch the surface.

From New York you can also take a day-trip (although IMO it's better as a week-end trip) to Niagra Falls and the Woodbury Common Factory Outlets.

We're going again this December and then again in February. We're planning a West Coast USA trip for next August.

Paris is great too - and you could have a day (or two ) at Disneyland

Last june we went to Molins Engleburt which is a small village in burgandy france, it was fantastic not my usuual sort of thing but we have already booked for next june, we hire a villa in fantastic countryside with walking dist to the village where there are some fantastic ( and extreemly cheap restaurants) .
It was the most relaxing holiday i have ever had, and also one of the cheapest( something to bear in mind if you are having a baby) We spent a total of £1190 on the whole holiday inc ferry, villa , petrol, food and eating out! that was for me, Dh and Ds then 7 months.

There are lots of lovely woods to walk through( no snow in summer though sorry!) and the nearby lakes are beautiful and provide many activitys.

Not particularly, Woodbury Common is about one hour from Manhattan. Niagra Falls is about 20 minute drive from Buffalo airport (45 minute flight from New York). Some tour companies combine the trip and do a day at Woodbury Common followed by a weekend at Niagra.

As you can see from my signature we are going out West again. Starting in San Francisco and working our way to Las Vegas via Lake Tahoe, Yosemite and the Grand Canyon

We had a w/end in Venice earlier this year and really loved it - I'd highly recommend it for a short break for adults, but I'm not so sure about taking children.

Next summer we're going to Canada, travelling around the Toronto, Niagara, Ottawa, St Lawrence River area. We had a fantastic trip to British Columbia a couple of years ago, so decided we'd try the 'other end' of the country this time (and a big plus is the fact that we can fly from Cardiff to Toronto ).

I'm starting to get worried that we don't have a Florida trip planned No, let me clarify that - I don't have a Florida trip planned. DH has a fishing trip to the Keys booked for May 2007. There's something not quite right there!

Head for the mountains - no matter what time of the year they are beautiful

We went to Italy skiing with friends last Christmas - it was superb. I wasn't sposed to get my skis out because of an old mangled ankle, but I did. But, because I didn't think I'd be able to, we went to a resort that (allegedly!) had non-skier stuff like snowshoe walking, sledging, horse drawn sleigh rides, skiddoos, swimming, spas . . . and shopping

There are quite a few resorts that have snow all year round high up on the glaciers. A couple in most european ski resorts.

At Easter we're off to Lake Tahoe on the borders of California/Nevada with our friends skiing. We're stopping in San Fransisco for a couple of days to have a look around there. Again, I am conscious that my leg won't hold up to much skiing, so there are all sorts of things to do around Lake Tahoe to keep me occupied. Especially shopping
