Hello, we are spending a few days at Disney prior to going on a Disney cruise. We will be renting 2 cars (there are 7 of us).

My original thought was-fly into MCO, rent cars, go to Coronado Springs, do our stuff at WDW, and on the day of our cruise, drive back to the airport, drop off cars, and then have a car service take us to the port.

Today, I had either a brilliant idea (or a weird idea) that perhaps we could drop our rental cars off at the Car Care Center on the morning of our cruise, get a shuttle back to the hotel, and then just have the car service pick us up directly at the hotel.

The group of us is 2 grandparents, 2 parents, and 3 boys ages 2,4 and 6.

My thought today is: this eliminates a transfer point, 3 crazy boys at the airport, while the adults manage the luggage, including car seats. This might also save us time as well.

Any thoughts? I really appreciate the input!

Price out taking Mears/car service from MCO to Disney and then the DCL busses from your resort to the port and let someone else do the driving depending on price vs the car rental route.

If you go the car rental route probably returning them to the port makes the most sense both budget and time wise. You can drop the luggage and extra people at the terminal and then the two drives can return the cars.

Unfortunately, Mears will not work for us. My daughter/son-inlaw are adamant that the 2 and 4 year old are in car.

And, all of the adults would rather be relaxing in a vehicle, instead of being drivers going to the port.

Given the number of passengers, taking DCL transportation is likely not cost effective anyway. I would price a car service with car seats for the 2 and 4 year olds and sufficient capacity for all seven passengers as well as their luggage, transporting from resort to port or from airport to port, depending on price. You may sacrifice some convenience if you drop off rental cars at the airport, but the cost of the rentals may be lower since you will not be limited to the Enterprise group (Alamo, Enterprise, National) that services the Car Care Center. We used to drop rental cars at the port, and might again in the future, but only with Alamo or National. Our experiences at the Budget location at PC have been uniformly bad, to the point where we will not use that location again to drop off or pick up a rental car.

I would definitely price out private transportation and compare it to the other options. Guessing private transportation will be in the $450-500 range plus tip. But, if you compare that to two rentals (renting car seats or bringing your own) and either parking at the park or two more rentals to return to MCO after the cruise, it may be worth it. There is definitely something to be said about everything arranged ahead of time, not waiting in rental counter lines, etc.

We just got back from WDW and used private transportation for seven adults (and associate luggage). Here's the price quotes I got. We ended up going with Tiffany's and it worked out nice and smooth.
