Holiday Inn DTD is no more

Spoke to Glenn Aycock yesterday about july 4th weekend reservations and they have to be changed. The latest opening date is January 2007, yea that is almost 3 years of rehab. When I asked what was going on he just said that one change leads to 5 or 6 others so it delays it even more. I can't really understand this but so be it. I was given the choice to move to Sheraton Serfari or cancel, he didn't say anything about rescheduling. He is suppose to call my daughter who had later July reservations and I will have her check about rescheduling if you can. That is the latest.

Do you have his phone #. My reservation in not until Nov. 2006, but I'd like to know before hand if I need to change hotels. I'm really looking forward to staying at Holiday Inn DTD because it'll be new and close to DTD, so hopefully it'll be done by November :confused3

I talked to my friend that works at the Nick hotel. They are not taking any reservations at the DTD HI, nor is it listed anywhere in their info. No management had any info on it's reopening either. Like a big mystery.

Looks like everyone booked into the HI is being moved to The SF!!. I was dissapointed as I felt that a "newly modelled" hotel would be great to stay in. Never mind Virgin has changed my reservations to the Wyndham Palace so have not lost out! The time it is taking they could have almost knocked the place down and rebuilt!!!

The SF???? :confused3

Which hotel is that...thanks for any info.

Sheraton Safari...That was where we got moved last October. The motel was nice, but I was thoroughly disappointed with the staff. Worst staff experience I have ever had.

Are you sure that he meant the Sheraton? That is where we were sent last November but SF does not seel to be the Sheraton Safari...

Drove by HI DTD last weekend (3/19) and front entry now has two security guards standing there. Some of roof shingles have still not been replaced on the first story front part of the building. There surely must be an interesting story on why work seems to have stopped.

Sorry - meant the Sheraton Safari!! I decided not to take the offer but to go to The Buena Vista Palace instead

I just wanted to bump this thread to see if anyone has any new info?? :confused3

My ressie isn't until the end of November, but I been trying to get in contact with someone to see if I'm going to need to change hotels. I'm hoping Holiday Inn DTD will be open by then.

Does anyone have a good # to call. I've tried to call and email Jamie Foss but I don't ever hear anything back. And the people at the 800 number have no idea.

Thanks!

I have an idea - building permits. Anyone work for the town of Lake BuenaVista (sorry for the spelling) - It's public knowledge- building permits. You could find out who is doing the building - the company/person paying for it.

If Sheraton - then the company would be Starwood.

Why guess ? Call Town Hall (not WDW) of Lake BuenaVista - and find out.

One can not put up a structure without a building permit.
The town/city board would also have to approve the plans for the building.
The tax office would know who owns the land and maybe who is building on it.

Just a thought :goodvibes

Actually it probably would not be Starwood. Starwood owns very few of the hotels.... Someone else owns them and they have an "affiliation agreement" with the chains. That's why hotels keep changing.

The people who own the Sheraton Safari is the same group that owns the DTD Holiday Inn, unless they recently defaulted. You might call the local number for the Sheraton Safari and speak to a manager.

It sounds like they may have run out of money.

Thanks for the tips. I think I will call the Sheraton Safari manager to see if he has any updates.

I will also be going to WDW in May, so I'm going make sure I drive by and take a look.

If the hotel does change ownership for financial reasons, do you think the new owners will still honor current reservations/rates (if the hotel ever opens)?

My holiday Company have removed the hotel from Brochure and I was told it was not opening before 2007!!. I was placed in the "sister" hotel Sheraton Safari so think the advice to call them is a good one!. I tried all ways of calling the Holiday inn - including a letter which I wrote direct - no response! Will be interested if you hear anything!

What number can we call to find out what is happening? Is there an email I can send a question too?

If they change us to Sheraton Safari, I will need a rental car and I have to get on it. If they let me change our dates, we have friends who are going to be there a week sooner and we could ride with them so I have to get this info but no one answer when I call.. :confused3

would be Glenn.Aycock@ihrco.com. He is the one that is calling everyone to notify them that the hotel will not be open. I do not know how far out they are notifying people for but I was suppose to go in July as well as my daughter and we have both been contacted. Good luck.
