Hojo Room Type Recommendation?

Just wondering people's opinions on what Hojo room type to book. We will be going for 4 nights the week before Christmas (with 2 days in the parks) and I wasn't sure what room choice to book:

  1. Buildings 3, 4, 5, 6
  2. Building 1 facing freeway (same price as choice 1)
  3. Building 2 facing pool (+ $8.50 average per night over choices 1 or 2)
  4. Building 1 premium Disney view (+ $21.25/night over choices 1 or 2, + $12.75 over choice 3)

No stroller or nap issues as my kids don't nap anymore, so the arched windows/no elevator are not big concerns for us. We've chosen Hojo because of proximity; BWPPI and Park Vue are both more $$.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

anywhere except building 1 facing the freeway.

the rooms are pretty big on all of them i liked building 6

We like the NQQ2 rooms, which is 2 Queen beds in Building 2 facing the quiet pool. I prersonally wouldn't book the Disney facing rooms, simply for the fact that our family in general would rather be at the parks, instead of looking at Disney from a window.

I too, am curious about this as I am planning a trip December 2012 for my kids that are still home, my married kids with babies, and unknown!!! We will need 3 rooms, but possibly 4 with 2 connecting for myself and our (will be) teens. I think I will want the kids suite for my DD and her family. My DS20 is the wild card, as he may stay with our other boys. How soon should or can I even book for 2012? this will be a huge trip for us! 20 year anniversary plus our granddaughters 3rd birthday celebration. My kids are all over so I need to start planning and saving now!

I assume we won't use the pool, since it will be late December :confused3

Is there a difference between the actual rooms in Building 2 vs. the rooms Buildings 3, 4, 5 & 6, or is it just pool proximity that's the advantage?

I liked choices 1 and 3 very much. I was not impressed by the Disney-facing room--the view is better now than it was when we went, as they removed some trees, but our room itself had several issues. We didn't get the two sinks that are common there, and our safe and Internet didn't work until they sent (two different) people up to fix them. The air conditioner was very noisy as well, and if you just opened the balcony door, the freeway noise was very noticeable. For the money, I had expected a better room. The only real advantage I can think of is that you would be able to see the fireworks from your room, probably. But for the money savings between that and choice 1, you could not only view them from Downtown Disney, but enjoy a meal there too! (For that matter, you could nearly add a third Disney day with the price difference, assuming 2 adults/2 kids and paying Disneyland's online prices.)

When we did your choices 1 and 3, we went more in the off-season, but found the rooms to be very VERY quiet and pleasant.

I'd say do choice 1 if you and your family don't mind the double beds, or choice 3 if you would rather have the queen beds. Though the Hojo site assures you that the double beds are quite spacious, they seemed a little small to me--but if I were a child or sharing a bed with a husband, I probably would not have minded. It just seemed kind of close for two adults who don't want to "touch." :rotfl:

EDIT: I think the rooms in Building 2 and Buildings 3-6 are different, but I'm not sure I'd class one as "better" than the other. Not that I was in the rooms long enough to notice; we didn't do any mid-afternoon breaks on either of those stays. I liked the balcony/patio better in Buildings 3-6 (I think we were in Building 6?). The one thing I noticed with 3-6 was the sizable closet area near the patio/balcony; they fit a rollaway and it might be a nice place if you like to store your luggage out of sight?

Have a great trip!

I have only stayed in Building 2, but I think the main differences between choices 1 and 3 are that choice 1 has double beds and no microwave but choice 3 (building 2) has queen beds and a microwave in the room. Most of our stays in Building 2 have been very quiet.

These rooms are our favorite too. :thumbsup2

Add another vote for the NQQ2 rooms overlooking the quiet pool. Quiet rooms, spacious, balcony, fridge and microwave included. We love them -- in fact, we'll be in an NQQ2 in 6 more days! :dance3:

NewbieMouse - so the Christmas DLR trip is definitely on? Yay!!!:cool1::cool1: I know there was much deliberation on when the best time to go would be and you, at one point, thought it would be just a one-day trip! So it's two days at DLR, huh? That's so exciting!! I'm so glad that you guys are going to experience DLR during the holidays - as you saw on the Christmas thread, you have a lot to look forward to! It's so magical and beautiful!:santa:

You've worked your magic again, Sherry E! That Christmas thread lured me in! Dh thinks I'm out of my mind - especially for the second day - but who cares?!? We're going back to Disneyland!

Dh and I usually each take a bed with one of our daughters, so double vs. queen is not a huge issue. We would use the fridge for drinks, but probably not the microwave as we tend to almost always eat out on vacation. I would definitely go with close to the pool if we were going to use it, but since it's December (bbbrrrrrr....), I doubt we will. Are some of building 2's rooms facing the freeway? Hmmmm.... what to do... If we went with building 3 - 6, is there one building that is clearly the best one? I've seen a couple of 'thumbs up' for Building 6, is that the best choice?

None of building 2's rooms face the freeway. I did discover though that the rooms furthest back in building 2 away from the pool and closest to the other buildings do get some freeway noise. This seems more noticeable to me on floors 3 and 4 than 1 and 2. Everybody has different tolerances.

Also, don't know if this is important to you, but I don't think buildings 3,4,5,6 have elevators; they are only 2 story buildings though.

We've been very pleased with our HOJO stays. We stay in the building 2 rooms by preference. If you don't need the larger beds or microwave, I'm sure you'll do fine to save the few bucks and stay in the standard non-freeway room. The only other noise complaint I have heard of is that the water play area with it's water bucket and associated noises can be annoying, so maybe you don't want the building closest to it, whichever that is.

I'm starting to think that Building 2 would be good for next time we're there if it's a warmer time of year, and that the premium Disney view really isn't worth it. I think I'll book choice 1 and request building #6.

Thank you so much for all of your responses. You DISers (or DISees?:confused3) are the best!

building 6 is if your looking at the front of hojo is the farthest one on the left close one to disneyland and the parking lot is right there you could throw your luggage to it from the parking lot.

Its 1 story so no one is on top of you or below you. The back side of it faces the adult pool. Im pretty sure all the rooms are oversized double beds. Its very quite there and I really liked it. We stayed in this building march 2010

building 2 we just stayed in june 2010 on the 2nd floor. The room was fine and everything i just hated walking around the pool at night and having to use the stairs and elevator.

Building 6 is much easier to just fall into :rotfl2::rotfl2:

With bldg 2 you can walk through the pool area and cut off some of your steps if you want.

We love bldg. 2 and have never felt a need for premium view - but we prefer off-season so having a fireworks view wouldn't really matter since they are only offered on weekends during that time and we would be at the parks.

We love having a microwave and fridge - we usually have some breakfast sandwiches that we can heat in the micro and some cereal and milk. I am not a huge breakfast fan and my small kids would rather have cereal and a yogurt or fruit or something.

DH and the older boys would rather have something with protein - so having the microwave makes it really nice for us.

We are trying the Kid's Suites in Nov. since we will have all 6 of us this time and that seems like it should fit us all. I will probably put the older boys on the bunk (I hope it's a regular sized bunk and not a smaller sized one) and the smaller boys on the pull out sofa. Or I could get a rollaway and add that to the room instead and then no one has to share. We'll decide when we get there.

I know the Kid's Suites face the freeway so we'll bring a couple of small noisemakers to help off-set the noise.

I had the same experience as Eeee-va with bldg6. One sink, freeway noise, poor view of park and fireworks, noisy air conditioner, slow and spotty internet, etc. I certainly expected more from HoJo as this was their "premium" class of rooms and also all the glowing reviews on the Disboards.

I did like the store in the lobby (they have everything you need) and the bed are very comfortable. I also had to use the laundry and that was easy. However, it doesn't hurt to shop around as there are certainly plenty of other options.

I was wondering if all the rooms had mircos and fridgeS?

I need both for my son's medicine...

I would like to stay in a standard because it'll only be the 2 of us...

any ideas?

TIA :)
