How's the pool in Dec? Is it heated? I read something about it not having a hot tub? Please tell me there is a hot tub! Isn't there more than one pool area? The pirate play area and another pool. Is this correct? I am moving my reservation from Desert Inn with the indoor pool to Hojo because for the same price I get a much nicer room. But I want a hot tub especially at Christmas time :santa:

Hello Leofoenget!

Our Garden Pool is heated year round, but there is not a Hot Tub in that area; the Hot Tub is in Castaway Cove.

Here's a link to more information about the hours for Castaway Cove and the Garden Pool, as well as a video so that you can get a better idea for the area. :goodvibes

We're so glad that you're going to be staying with us, and we look forward to seeing you!

There was a recent conversation about the hot tub at HoJo, specifically, but hotel jacuzzi's in general that you might want to read.

The stuff they didn't tell you...

Our General Manager was made aware of this particular thread so that he could have a chance to look into the questions raised. The particular issue of foaming and residue in the Hot Tub was determined to be a result of reaction with swimsuits, personal grooming products [hair products, lotions, deoderants, etc] and the introduction of residue [from walking around barefooted] to the Hot Tub by other guests. Our Maintenance Staff prioritizes both the cleanliness and safety of our Garden Pool and Castaway Cove [including the Wading Pool & Jacuzzi] for our guests.

I never meant to give the impression that we were deliberately [or otherwise] trying to withhold information about our property that would keep people from making an informed decision about whether or not to stay with us, and I'm so sorry if it came across that way! That certainly wasn't my intention; if anything, I always try to foster as much communication as possible between our guests and ourselves so that we can be constantly improving our property and our policies to better suit their needs. :goodvibes

Here's my two cents (which I have already left on other threads..sorry). I LOVE the pirate area for my child but there is not a place for adults other than the hot tub which one can only take for so long. The Garden pool and the pirate area are NOT heated....in my opinion. We found the water to be pretty dang chilly in April and again in June. Of course, my child didn't care and frolicked away but dh and I didn't get in much...bbbrrrrrrr! On our next trip (Oct) we are going to go back to the Candy Cane. Their pool is warm!

Hey Lorealle!

I just want to let you know that I actually came to HoJo's defense in the above stated thread (thought it was too harsh), but as the situation DID happen I thought that the OP should see what others were saying. *I* never meant to imply that your intention was to hide something. I, too, apologize if it seemed that I was trying to imply otherwise. :goodvibes

I agree with this statement. Every time I stay at the HoJo I always see the maintenance folks out every morning taking care of the pool areas.

I also agree with this statement. Although HoJo says that the Garden pool is heated, it is very cold. In fact, it's the coldest heated pool I have ever been in no matter the time of year. It may be heated, but it has never been warm enough to feel relaxing. Honestly, it's so cold that can't bring myself to swim in it.

Hi

Can I just check....is the Garden Pool adults only? I ask becasue my DD who's 9 is a very keen swimmer and whilst she'll enjoy the playground she would also like to actually do some swimming (as opposed to 'splashing around') when we visit at the end of October.

Thanks in advance. :)

Well that's no good! To the best of my knowledge, only the Garden Pool is heated [nothing at Castaway Cove is, apart from the Hot Tub of course  ], but the Pool shouldn't be freezing! I think I remember our GM saying it was meant to be heated to 80 degrees all year! It may be that we're taking the temperature too close to the surface; I will definitely check with him on this!

FWIW, if the temperature outside is over that...he pool is going to feel cold until you get used to it (which can be hard for some adults and many kids).

My brother has a pool in San Diego, and when he sets it to 80 (which he does because he swims for an hour at a time and doesn't want to overheat) it's freezing. When I visit, or when his wife wants to swim, he sets it at upwards of 90.

I agree with Molly, I can tell you that when I lived in AZ, I wasn't about to get in a pool that was heated only to 80 degrees. 85-90 seemed like the best temps to swim in comfortably. Lorealle, maybe you could do a poll on your FB page to see if other HoJo regulars have the same issue with the pool?

No it is not for adults. It's for anyone. It's their only proper pool.

Our Garden Pool is open to all ages! :]

Thanks for that...my DD will be very happy! :thumbsup2

I asked becasue I read on another thread where someone referred to it as the 'Adults Pool' and was a bit worried she wouldn't get her laps in - she likes to do several laps daily while we're on vacation! :cool1:

Oh I understand.

They used to have two pools. One in the section now known as the waterplay area, and the one in the "garden" area. When we stayed there the first time, people were using the garden pool as more of a "quiet" pool, while the other was noisy and kid-filled.

Now that they changed things, some people still think, or accidentally type, or make accidental allusions to, that there are two proper pools, so they still think of the garden/only pool as being the quiet one.

Totally makes sense. :)

Lorealle,
Thanks for your response. I'm very happy that you're going to check in to the pool temperature. Honestly, the GM should just put on his swimsuit and go for a dip in the garden pool......then he'll know what we're talking about. I don't know that much about what temperature heated pools should be, but I do know what freezing feels like. My family and I swim in a heated pool at our rec center all the time and it feels warm when you enter the water and immediately has a wonderful relaxing effect. I would love to experience that feeling on my vacation at the HoJo. Hope you can help us out!

It seems like every hotel pool I have ever been in was a bit on the frosty side. Am I the only one?

Hi Lorealle,
I must say that I'm very surprised that you are aware of the thread and yet you made no effort to post a response. That surprises me because the one thing that I've always said was the biggest positive about Hojo is that you all were very customer service oriented. I actually thought that perhaps you didn't see the thread and that's why you didn't respond. I guess I'm surprised because I've seen you post many responses (and solutions) to other people when they've posted about problems they've had with their hotel rooms. I do hope that the foaming issue is really from the soap, etc. It was the brown stuff floating on top of the foam that was really gross. So since I didn't get a response on my thread, I guess I'll ask here: what did the GM have to say about the dust in the bathroom air vent?

Lorealle, I'm wondering if the GM has had a chance to go for a dip in the Garden Pool yet to check out the temperature? :) I'm really hoping that a change has been made and it will be warm enough to be comfortable for most adults before our visit.

Castaway Cove is cool but my family would rather swim and the Garden Pool is just too cold. Our other option is the hot tub but it seems like it's always full of kids since Castaway Cove opened. They jump in the hot tub to wait for the water bucket bell to go off, run over to be drenched by the giant bucket full of cold water, and then jump right back in to the hot tub to go through the whole cycle again. All this activity is not really conducive to relaxation, at least not for me.

We really miss the big pool that used to be there. It provided a relaxing atmosphere for kids and parents alike. Nowadays, we would love to relax in the quiet atmosphere provided by the Garden Pool if only it were warmer. Thanks for your devotion to customer service and all that you do to insure our visits are special! I hope you'll let us know the latest news on this topic soon.....
