I just called the Hojo number I could find (714-776-6120). I asked to make a reservation and the guy transferred me. The gal who answered told me there was no Entertainment Rate for March 15-17.

???????

Did I call the right place?

Amy

I just checked the entertainment rate page from Howard Johnson's Innsider website, the dates you have indicated are showing as available as of the 9th of this month. I would call again, and also try the dates on their website as well.

in other threads, people have mentioned that to get the actual local hojo people, you need to call during business hours/days, otherwise you get transferred to clueless (to local promotions) national hotel line. (I have no personal knowledge of this, I just remember reading it here somewhere).

That is the correct number, when he transferred you, it may have been to their general reservations line, which you do not want. If memory is serving me correctly, the hours are limited in regards to speaking with one of the Howard Johnson's direct reservationists on the weekend. Still though, go ahead and call again, today, or wait until tomorrow, when someone should be available to speak with directly at the hotel. Do not call the 1- 800 number.

Ask to speak with Lorealle, she is the manager of this particular Howard Johnson property.
If she is not available, there are other representatives, that will be able to assist you as well, most successfully too, I am sure. But it must be the hotel, not the 800 number reservationists. They normally do not know or care to state anything about the ET rate.

The problem is you called today on a non-business day for IN HOUSE reservations. You either need to wait until tomorrow, phone again the number you called and specifically ask for IN HOUSE reservations or you can try today online using code SD50 (I think that is the online code anyhow)
Central reservations has no idea what/about the entertainment rate.

Definitely call in house reservations, the national call center is useless for the Ent. rate. Don't just ask to make a reservation, ask for in house. The online code has never worked for me for the 50% off rate.

Thank you all so much for all the information.

I will call tomorrow morning.

Amy

Remember tomorrow is a national holiday, just in case it still seems a little Goofy when you call. It might take until Tuesday to fully sort this!

Oh, I forgot about monday being a "holiday", so if you are jumping at the bit to reserve, go ahead and give teh SD50 code a try and then phone tuesday to add your requests (ie-- top floor, bottom floor, big balcony, 2 sinks, etc)
