Completely different. The chocolate coating is a different texture on both. On the Ho Ho it's kinda crumbly and gets everywhere, on the Ding Dong it sticks to the cake. The cake part also has a different taste and texture.
I am a Hostess connoisseur. I know my Ding Dongs and Ho-Hos.
Not to ruin a perfectly good thread but I recall eating my last Ring Ding when I couldn't get the grease off my hands with a 1/2 bottle of Dawn dishwashing lotion. That's when I knew I was eating something strange.
I always thought Ho Ho's and Ding Dongs were the same thing. We're cheap however and buy the Little Debbie version of Ho Ho's and get two in the pack instead of one Ho Ho.
Of all of the snack cakes my favorite is Devil Dogs - no chocolate coating and the filling is the best!!!!
