Ho Ho Hum - Gifters and Re-Gifters unite

Okay. I'm not all scrooge with the adults.

I do make cakes and/or rumballs to give away. Although....both are so NOT happening this year. :worried:

Think about it.....no presents for adults.....means more shopping money to spend on ME! :thumbsup2

This is us as well. Every year myself, my sister and my sister in law all make an agreement to just buy for each other's kids. I love this arrangement. Otherwise I find the cost of Xmas gets carried away and Xmas becomes a burden.

I still buy for mine and DH's parents, as it has become custom to buy for each other. But to be honest, if we all came to the agreement of no more adult presents, I would be quite happy. I have a friend who says that all the adults in her family do a $20 secret Santa and that's it as far as adult presents go. I like this idea.

When I look back on the best Xmas' I've ever had, I don't actually remember any of the presents I gave or received. It's the time having fun with the people I love that I remember.

We have a Kris Kringle, I gift each! Even the children! (The youngest is 15):(

Although Santa still leaves a few things for them at home!

Oh my God I would be so sad if no one bought me pressies at Christmas just because I had kids...

I really I am a bit of a grump, I really don't want the sort of things you generally get. I feel so overwhelmed with stuff in my house! It's bad enough finding room for the things the kids get!
I don't want any more perfume, powder, candles, picture frames, etc!

I never said that no one bought me pressies at Christmas. :)

But I'm with Battymum.....I already have waaayyy too much stuff.

Well most of you are making me feel like Scrooge....but I also do like getting pressies so within our immediate family pressies are still in (but not expensive ones). In the wider BIL SIL et al family we went from a Kris Kindle style, draw a name for who you buy for the following Xmas to now buying a small gift for parents only (mostly '*** they insist on doing this for us still) and nieces/nephews get a (small) gift til they turn 18. Some years if DD and I are in a baking mood and have time we make slices and truffles etc and hand a nicely wrapped bunch to each family- not happening this year!

I would have to agree with this! As much as I love Christmas, presents aren't a big deal for me,although they are nice,I like that christmas gifts are more about how "its the thought that counts" (my mum got me a mug a few years back lol) and it doesn't have to be something I want badly (I like to save that more for birthdays).

I think I stopped getting presents when I turned 14 :P
now I only exchange gifts with my bf and his family,my family are Christmas-stick-in-the-muds :rotfl:

When we were younger we went all out but now that we are all getting older we try and move away from the commercialism of it all and just do 1 present per person. We try and do a secret santa but the 'secret' part is only barely maintained. We do obligatory gifts with carlo's siblings which are usually in the $10 - 15 range which i sometimes regift. I also dont need more candles or soaps/body lotions or pretty photo frames :( this year i made everyone 2013 wall calendars on vista print out of photos from our trip last year... Personalised them and only 5.99 each..

ahh you're lucky! lol my parents aren't very Christmassy at all, don't get me started on birthdays! :(
It's also probably because all my family are overseas, so no presents for little old me. My future kids should consider themselves lucky that I still love Christmas

I am really resisting the sack of presents this year! My kids have some big and expensive presents under the tree - but not the sack full of junk they usually get -
I have even been slack on the underwear front :rotfl2:, I have a running debate with a girl at work, she thinks you shouldnt give stuff for christmas that you would have to buy them anyway!! :santa:
Might have second thoughts on that this weekend followed by some urgent shopping!!

I've done a scrooge's santa sack this year. Pencil cases, socks, underwear, a couple of books. I'm getting some chocolate to put in it as well.

Just food left for me.

Being a family of bookworms and not having TV reception it's pretty easy-books for everyone-not necessarily new-and DVD's especially TV series (OT how do you pluralise series?? teachers out there?) and we are all so happy (none of us are kindle converts yet).

a family of bookworms, that's so nice to hear! :yay: I get a little sad sometimes seeing people read on tablets and such.I love having and getting hard copy books and smelling the pages (I'm not weird I promise :roftl: )

I know-my DD shares my love-there is nothing that beats that smell...and walking into old libraries especially. Grown up now (21st Sat!!) but still living at home she is already bemoaning "what will I do when I move overseas". DH "well you certainly can't take all your books with you-you'll have to go digital". DD "wail-my favourites will have to come"-umm-I count she has at the bare minimum 40 of those and rising!

aww books are just precious,I've saved my old Disney story books so my future kids can have them (of course I will buy them new ones too :p). Yes I love old libraries! I could sit in there for hours reading and finding nice books :goodvibes

Going digital would be the most convenient thing ever but I enjoy the physical feeling of flipping through the pages and running my hand across the front cover too much :rotfl: the only good thing I find about the lessening interest in hard copy books is that they're a lot cheaper to buy :D
