Ho Ho Hum - Gifters and Re-Gifters unite

I remember Pound Puppies! I always wanted one but all my parents could afford to buy me was one of those fake ones from the Reject Shop or whatever was around back then :headache:

Wish I had known you back then, you could've had my stylish bag:thumbsup2

I'm sure I would have loved it if I was 6 yrs old, not 13.

I remember my Nan giving me the best present ever when I was 11, a tin plate with King George the 5th plastered all over the front!

Good times:rotfl2:

My mum and dad are always a bit dodgy-my DD quickly learnt that some years she might get some amazing item (like a handmade by dad wooden stable for her mini toy horses that she treasures even though she's now grown up) or a load of wrong-age rubbish picked up from secondhand stores-that pound puppy bag-that could be have been from my mum. So its always a (private) laugh between us. I was always a bit concerned when she was really little she'd blurt out the wrong thing and hurt their feelings (or mum especially can get the hump pretty easily). For the last 10 years Dad has decided she should collect salt and pepper shakers-I think he honestly believes she started it? well she didn't but she does now-some are hideous but most from 2ndhand stores so not wasted many $. Some are really pretty but its another thing we always laugh about-mum too and I am sure after he is gone we will keep doing it as its become a tradition.

That reminds me of the most treasured gift i ever got from my nan and pa...i was 5, and it is a bear named Tink, as she has bells in her ears....she still sits by my bed ( i am 45 this year) and when i' m sad i give her a cuddle...if i had to save one thing in a fire, she would be it......my nan and pa passed away a few years ago, so this is my constant reminder of them.....

You're so lucky to have something to cuddle and remember your Nan and Pa. I'm a bit down in the dumps at the moment, my Nan passed away whilst we were at Disneyland in October. Christmas shopping is sad this year because I can't buy her a pressie, at least I have lovely memories of her.

Bu the way, this wasn't the 'pound puppy nan'...she's still kicking around Bundaberg somewhere scouring dollar stores for bargains, lol.

That's so true, bless their hearts. Hope you have a lovely day:hug:

these are the same grandparents who gave me a bracelet that turned my wrist green....horrible knitted jumpers..a music box that didnt play....and made me wear camphor blocks around my neck til i was 12 to keep the cold off my chest...:rotfl:

classic!

I miss the horrible knitted jumpers. They were ugly and uncomfortable, but she'd always put on whatever patch I wanted :rotfl:

And she'd darn the knees in my tracky dacks when they'd wear out, and she'd darn a smiley face into them. Except when she'd have to do the same pair of pants three weekends in a row, then it turned into a frowny face :lmao:

Ahh grandparents, just like "Dad Jokes" they make you cringe, but you still get a chuckle out of them...

and they had that smell that only your nan would have...comforting..and her curried sausages were awesome....as was rice pudding....could live without the kidney pies

One of my nanas died 3 years ago and I remember she always gave us $10 for birthdays and Christmas. She always smelled of that lilac talcum powder in the tin or musk perfume. She had big ****s and you'd get smothered in them when she hugged you :)

I walked into my mums house the other day and she was cooking corned beef, it smelled just like my Nans house! When I cook it it doesn't smell like that, or I don't notice it in my house!
I come from a long line of non emotional females, so my memories of her are not all fuzzy and warm, not bad either, but that is a memory I do have and it hit me like a punch in the face the other day!

Musk purfume, yes!!

Where would I be without my nana? Well, I'd probably have piles from sitting on cold concrete for a start! Headed your warning there Nana, yes I did, and my bottom thanks you every day.

I'm grateful to my Nan for the fact that I still have two eyes. Whenever we got a bit rowdy she'd yell at us in her beautiful Scottish accent "Stop! You'll put your eye out!" Always wondered where my eye was going to actually be 'put'.

More Christmas shopping today. I'm so close to finishing my presents that I can almost taste it.

Food next!
