Umm, Whats a "backdoor ding". Does that tell you when the next one is coming out. If so, I would like to know how to see that.

I have two windows open, one the DING reservation, the other Southwest's Travel Center. Then, I go through the DING booking, up to the payment screen. I cancel my previous reservation, then apply the funds to my DING reservation. So far I haven't had a problem. It will normally give me the option of a refund to my credit card for a small portion of the canceled reservation, the rest becomes Southwest funds. I've heard of people being successful getting the rest credited by calling, but I always have another trip in the works anyway, so I'm happy with the credit.

So in other words, you purchase a non-refundable ticket and a Ding price comes out and you cancel the non-refundable ticket and purchase the Ding fare? And SW credits you the difference??

Umm, Whats a "backdoor ding". Does that tell you when the next one is coming out. If so, I would like to know how to see that.

Near the beginning of this thread, there is a reference to flyertalk.com. This link tells you how to set up the backdoor. The backdoor allows you check to see if there are Dings on computers that your are not allowed to install the Ding Software (like at work, PDA).

It kind of tells you when the next one will be available. Meaning, it usually gives you about 30 minutes notice if you keep refreshing the backdoor page. This is how you can tell if one will be coming out soon (within 30 minutes). This allows all Ding software to "ding" at almost the exact time as the backdoor silently counts down.

whens the best time to buy sw air for november ?

Without sounding silly (ok ok I am silly this am )
Book it when you see it at the cheapest rate! I check at least 2x per day and keep my eye on the transportation site of the DIS board since most folks will put good deals in there as soon as they see them!

I actually booed it as soon as it came out & then watched for it to drop, then I changed it to get cheaper rate. Have done this twice so far. I have yet to book return flight since I am planning on using credits I have built up from this method to get cheaper rates! Make sense?

You can look back through this thread. We have been tracking the Dings since last November. It would give you an idea. It seems they are about 90 days out upto less notice sometimes. Occassionaly when they extend the window for Dings they will add a longer than normal period. But its really hit and miss. I would subscribe to this thread. We usually post the updates and you could get an email with the dings.
