Husband needs to buy a suit. He can only buy one. It has to work for funerals, job interviews, etc.

We have never bought him a suit -- can anyone please give me some advice?
Where to go to find a reasonable priced one and what color to look for?

I know nothing abut doing this. I want him to look nice, not like he threw something together himself.

TIA

My Dh only has one suit too. We got a Jones of New York onsale at Macy's a few years ago. It has heald up very well. He wears the pants all the time now since he no longer needs a suit suit.... I think that your best bet would be to look for a good sale on a decent brand. I think we spent about $200 on it but this was over 3.5 years ago....and that was on sale.

I'm not sure how much money you are wanting to spend but my husband has always had good luck with S&K MensWarehouse. We actually just bought him 2 new suits last month for a little over $600. They were good quality wool and cut to fit his body. They have tailors on site and many different price ranges. A nice charcoal color is flattering to most men and can be changed with the kind of dress shirt and tie for the occasion.

I second Men's Warehouse, if you have one near you. They will do lifetime alterations on any suit they sell. The quality is good and they do a great job of matching shirts and ties.

My husband has a suit that I call midnight blue. It's real dark, almost black, no striping or anything and it looks great with lots of different colors. When he bought it, it was because the one he had was a little "tight". A few months later he had lost some weight and it was big, we went back, they took it in and it fits him great now. :thumbsup2

I'll also second (is that third-ing? :confused3 ) Men's Warehouse. They have a good selection, decent quality and fairly reasonable pricing, plus they do alterations and fitting right there for a good price.

I would go for either a dark blue or charcoal suit, not black. But that's just personal preference.

I love a black suit on my dh! I like his dark blue and charcoal grey ones too but black is always my favorite. It just looks a tad nicer to me every time he wears it.
DD's bf Matthew wears a black one I love too so I think I just prefer black over colors.

I agree with both Macy's and Men's Warehouse. Both have good prices, good selection and well trained staff to help coordinate outfits. I would get 2 or 3 shirts, 2 white, one colored and coordinating ties so he can mix and match things to create a new look. If you can swing it, buy 2 suits mainly for that second interview BUT a different shirt and tie is good too. I also agree that a dark charcoal or navy blue is the best option if you are only going to have one suit.

Men's Warehouse. DH has one dark grey suit from there-300 dollars well spent. He's hard to fit and they took two different suits to get what he needed together.

I too think a nice charcoal grey or dark blue would be best. You can get three or four different shirt and tie combos so if he has callbacks on interviews it doesn't look like he's wearing the same thing ;)

Someone I know got a suit at Macy's before and it was really nice. He's weird sized too (like VERY small) and they got it to fit him perfect! It was a charcoal color and looked very good paired with a pumpkin (or burnt) orange shirt for the fall wedding he was wearing it to.
I wish DH would get one sometimes because he looks so nice in one. But they don't do that kind of thing in his office and I haven't seen too many people wear suits to funerals in our families. Maybe one Christmas or Birthday I'll get him one. I'm sure he'll be thrilled! :rotfl:

My husband has bought suits from Mens Wearhouse. He has charcoal gray, light brown, blue, etc.

My son, who is a senior in HS, bought a black suit last year at Boscov's. It was originally $500.00 and we paid $250.00 for it. It is black and at first I tried to sway him into another color - but wow! I will admit that he was right on the mark with it, it looks terrific on him. :thumbsup2 He got the longer jacket length. He wore it for his senior portraits and he looked so handsome!

DS has all colors of shirts and ties (he's in the HS Chamber Singers). He picked a black shirt and a black tie to wear with the suit -- and once again I thought that was a bad choice, but when he wore everything, it looked terrific!

My DH needed a suit for his sister's wedding. Well he didn't want to spend more then he had too on it. He got a classic black suit at Target for less then $100. He looked really good. :goodvibes

We also shopped at K & G. DH got a nice dark brown suit for $199. There were taylors there to measure and we only paid $20 extra to alter the pants.

I've gotten all my suits from Men's Warehouse and they have lasted several years now. I think I have a couple of charcoal ones and a black one along with a couple of coats that go nicely with Dockers.

I don't know how much you want to spend but I'd suggest Brooks Brothers or an upscale dept. store like Nordstroms. You'll pay more but you'll get something that will last for years and that fits properly. Color wise I'd go with a charcoal gray light weight wool. It never goes of style and is appropriate for any occasion.

If you live in the boonies, or simply don't want to deal with a suit store and their salesmen, I strongly recommend Land Ends. They have a special catalog for men's business. The thing I like best is that all their suits are sold as separates (if your DH's doesn't exactly fit the "standard" you end with a lot of alterations on either the pants or jacket.) Reasonable prices too.
