All passengers travelling to and from the UK are not permitted to check in any bag that weighs in excess of 32kgs (70lbs). The maximum weight limit of 32kgs relates to single items of luggage and should not be seen as your baggage allowance. This new safety measure, which applies to all airlines and all destinations to/from the UK, is being introduced to reduce strains and injuries amongst baggage handling staff.
Passengers who exceed this maximum weight limit will be asked to repack their luggage into smaller units before they can check in. Excess baggage charges will be applied where applicable.
On Transatlantic, Caribbean and Nigerian routes we operate a piece system of allowance for checked in baggage.
Two pieces of luggage per passenger, each weighing up to 32kg (70lbs). When added together, the three dimensions of any piece of luggage must not exceed 158cm (62in).
Infants not entitled to a seat are entitled to one piece of checked baggage weighing no more than 10 kg and with dimensions of 9 x 14 x 22 ins. This is over and above the buggy or bassinet or car seat, which are carried free of charge
You are allowed to carry one piece of hand luggage onto the plane. This must be able to fit under the seat in front of you, which means it must not be larger than 23cm x 36cm x 56cm (9in x 14in x 22 in) and should not weigh more than 6kg (13lbs).
Wheelchairs, crutches, baby buggies and items necessary for baby care during the flight will be carried free over and above the baggage allowance. Baby buggies, carrying baskets and wheelchairs will normally be carried in the hold.
The UK Civil Aviation Authority requires all UK airlines to review and enforce their regulations regarding the acceptance and carriage of cabin (hand) baggage. We ask you to help us meet the regulations to make your flight more enjoyable. Space on any aircraft is at a premium and hand baggage should contain only items you require during the flight. There may be occasions when even having met size and weight limitations there is not enough room. In this event baggage will be checked and loaded in the hold. We ask for your understanding on those rare occasions.
that's from the Virgin website, but they always allow laptops as well.
Q Can I take my laptop and use it on board the plane?
A If you are situated in the Upper Class cabin you can use your laptop onboard most
Virgin Atlantic aircraft. However, we are currently working on technology to allow both Premium Economy and Economy passengers the ability to use their laptops whilst in flight.
