I usually consider myself a WDW expert but I am at such a loss when it comes to the cabins at FW! I have searched the boards and came up with some info but I was just wondering if anyone has some tips, secrets, suggestions, etc.... that I may not have found. How's the transportation? Is there your standard "foodcourt" or is it just the Trails End Buffet? Any specific cabins to request or stay away from? Anything I just HAVE to see or do? What are the cabins REALLY like? Will it be roomy enough for three adults and two children? Is there a store there for sundries?

Thanks for you help!

:bounce: Less than three months and I'll be there! :bounce:

I don't know of any food courts. Trails End does have the lowest price on buffet's at Disneyworld.

Sundries can be gotten from the 2 shops they have, one near Trails End, and one near the main pool.

I haven't stayed at the Cabins, but they are supposed to be nicer than the Homes and I did stay there with my kids. It is fantastic. You have your own building to yourself, maid service, and you are at Disney. You can make your own food or go to Trails End (or a little further and take the boat to MK, Contemporary, Wilderness Lodge).

Internal transportation is ok, if you can afford it (especially if you have kids who are old enough to drive) go with the golf carts. They are around $40 per day to keep 24 hours.

There is a lot to do there, including hayrides, campfire with Chip and Dale (and a movie), petting zoo, fishing (catch and release), horseback riding, 2 swimming pools, Hoop De Doo revue right there, and several things I've forgotten just now. It is a great place to go. As for the loop, we got a loop right by the pool, which was nice. Enjoy.

DEFINITELY check out the DIS Camping at WDW forum here--I got so much info it made my head spin :) There's a whole bunch of threads about things you asked about, and they're all centered around FW. I didn't even know for so long; kept wondering why no one really discussed FW on the Resort Board!

We're going in OCT and I can't wait can't wait can't wait :)

No food court, but there's Trails End for Buffet and Meadow's Post for pizza--the MP's supposed to be MUCH closer than TE to the cabins.

The carts are 43.xx a day, with a 10% discount for seven nights or over. Got them for eight days for 28x.xx You need to reserve them as soon as possible because they're supposed to be booked very quickly (can reserve for a year in advance).

Thanks for the info! I never thought to check out the camping board (actually, I didn't realize there was one! ).

FFeret, when are you going and when will you get back? I leave on October 11th and would love a report if you're back before I go! We are doing MNSSHP on October 16th and just can't wait! Still working on costume ideas, though. The golf cart sounds great but this was supposed to be a spur of the moment and cheap (yeah, right!) trip and it's getting more and more expensive as I go! It's turning out to be a dream-come-true, worry-about-the-bills when I get home trip! I have to make some sacrifices so that will probably be one of them, although it may be nice to treat ourselves to one for a day or two.

Thanks again! Off to the Camping Boards!

We stayed at the cabins last November. 2 adults and 4 children. We really liked it. The kids stayed in the bedroom, and my husband and I slept in the pull down Murphy bed. I found it comfortable...he did NOT. You will love the full kitchen! One bathroom, not too big. Might make getting ready in the morning for 3 adults a little cramped. We stayed near the pool/laundry facilities...highly recommend it. The rooms are nicely decorated. We had read about all there is to do at the cabins, but as this was our first Disney trip with the children, we spent most of our time in the parks. Barely saw anything but our cabin and the pool. It was lovely to have our own little place and retreat to our own world after a hectic, fun day! Had our rental van so never used the Disney transportation system.

Have a wonderful stay!!

We had a cabin in Nov 2000, and we loved it for the 5 of us. The kids loved all the activities around the grounds, especially the camp fire and movies nightly. Because it was early November, the parks closed early and they had time to do what they wanted in the evenings. We had a rental car, so we went food shopping off property. It was less expensive than buying at the stores there. Trails End buffet is really good , and Crockett's Tavern also has food in the evening. One night we (DH & I)got drinks there so we ate dinner, (Pizza, nachos and chic wings) kids loved it!:) We liked the layout of the cabins because we could put the younger kids to bed and still watch TV without waking them. The bathroom isn't a bad size, it's bigger than many resort bathrooms. There is only table seating in the kitchen for 4 though. But we only ate snacks and cereal and toast there! It worked.

Good luck and have a great time!!

I think there is plenty of room for 3 adults and 2 children. We stayed in the cabins last summer with 6 of us, including myself, dh, dd, ds, MIL and FIL. We were very comfortable with all 6. MIL and FIL slept in the murpy bed and said they were comfortable. The cabins are beautiful and we would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Kris-- looks like we're just going to miss y'all :(

We'll be there from Sept 30 - Oct 7, and then it's up to Georgia to visit DH's fam for a couple of days, then the drive back to Texas. Should get home on the 12th.

I just caved in only a couple of days ago about the golfcarts--yes, they ARE expensive. Not really sure WHY; looks like not evn ten years ago they weren't half that much :(

Originally I was only going to rent one for Laundry Day/Day off Day like yourself; should turn out fine. I really don't know about availability though.

Thanks to everyone for posting their trip experiences-- I can't wait can't wait can't wait :)
My whole fam just doesn't get Disney--told my mom today we'll be there for 8 days and she's all "too bad you can't sell four of those days to someone else" :(
