Hint to DVC in California

The concepts thrown around by both Rasulo and Weiss, and dutifully noted by Ed Grier and his staff, were a laundry list of concepts and ideas. Included in the items discussed were expanded parking facilities for arriving day guests, an expanded and plussed up Downtown Disney complex, replacement of the Disneyland Hotel, the expansion of the Grand Californian Hotel, the placement of the first Disney Vacation Club property in California, the creation of a new Cast Member service facility that would replace the piecemeal parking and entry points that exist now, and the expansion of DCA.

If the DVC were "The Grand Californian Villas", I would first in line to buy.
Some other hotel off-shoot or stand alone, I'm not so sure about.

That's how I feel too. I would never go to DL, but if there was a DVC resort that I can use points on, then I just might...

Just curious, but why would you "never go to DL"?
We just went for the first time, and I must say it was impressive. Enough so that we became PAP holders and are planning two trips per year in addition to our WDW trips.

I too loved DL (and Ca adventure). I loved the time difference (easy to get to parks early) and the small contained feel. I love WDW (of course or would I be here??)) but I liked the smaller homey feel of DL.

My family's goal is to go to every disney park in the world!!-- 2 down, more to go----- LOL

I'm heading to DL tomorrow for four nights. It's a compact place and it's easy to walk from place to place.

Plus I love their Haunted Mansion. Too bad it's closed to set up for Halloween this weekend.

We just went for the first time, and I must say it was impressive. Enough so that we became PAP holders and are planning two trips per year in addition to our WDW trips.

Because, I am a DVC member, and the value is much better at WDW. Besides that, DL doesn't real hold any allure to me. MK is not my favorite park and DCA is disliked by even the biggest fo DL fans. If that should change, or DVC offers a great value at DL, then I would consider it. Until then, I like the total immersion in Florida.

Okay, fair enough.

For anyone that may be interested, we found DCA to be very underrated. It was nicely themed with many good attractions, including the best Disney show I have ever seen-- Aladdin.
Actually, the poll on the DL board shows many DL vets to like DCA as much as the WDW parks.

Disneyland itself is stunning. The layout, cosmetic appearance, and detail have the upper hand on the Magic Kingdom.

Personally I have paid cash for my stays at the Grand Californian, but that's just because of a temporary point shortage. With that said, I don't find 29 points for standard, and 53 points for concierge level (even less for the other hotels) to be all that bad.... But as they say "your mileage may vary".

We put a DLR trip on hold for years, and we are very happy we finally did it. Can't wait until March, as we return to the GCH!

I'm just happy we have both WDW and DLR as great vacation destinations!

I can totally understand where you are coming from and I LOVE WDW too, but have you actually ever been to DL? These sound like second hand descriptions of what others might think. I don't think that you can really judge DL unless you actually go there. I love DCA And DL MK cannot even be compared to MK at WDW. Head over to the DL boards and I think you would be amazed at how many people are prepared to not like DL compared to WDW and just about every one of them love DL.

Remember DL is the only park that Walt built. Roy built MK as Walt died shortly after the announcement of the Florida project.

Here is what we like about DL:

Compact: A very walkable resort with both parks, DD and the hotels all an easy stroll

New Orleans Square: Just a remarkably well conceived area of the park

Ride differences: Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain and Small World are unique and in some ways better than the versions at WDW

DL only rides: While the technology is at WDW (dinosaur at AK) the Indy Jones ride at DL is superb and before EE at AK it was the best themed queue at the US parks

GC: a hotel experience on par with AK and WL at WDW

And although not DL specific you are close enough to zip down to Escondido to spend a day or two at Wild Animal Park -- even better than the San Diego or SF zoos.

We have been fortunate to enjoy Disney on both coasts and heartily recommend each for what each offers.

Head over to the DL boards and I think you would be amazed at how many people are prepared to not like DL compared to WDW and just about every one of them love DL.

This describes my wife and me a month ago. We felt that because we were WDW fanatics, we must at least make a token visit to the original park.
....We are now PAP holders at DLR!

We love both WDW and DLR. I can't honestly say which is better overall, as they both have their strong points.
I will say that for the first time in years we did the parks "commando style". This is because it was our first visit to DLR, and we wanted to see all the different nuances.

We will continue to visit both as often as possible.
Yes a "Villas at the Grand Californian" would be very nice indeed!

Just another huge to DL and DCA. Went for 3 days last December (which allowed us to see the Holiday Editions of Haunted Mansion and It's a Small World!), and we were definitely impressed. I can't imagine a Disney fan being disappointed with a visit to DLR. It's not as big as WDW for sure, but it definitely has its own charm.

I should make a small correction here. Instead of WDW and DLR, I should have said MK and DL.
--That's the real comparison.

For a long vacation WDW is a better choice than DLR in my opinion.

We came back from Disneyland Resort a couple of days ago. Today my husband totaled up our spendings. He walked up to me and said, "There should be a DVC in California."

It seems with what we pay for a hotel out there, it costs us twice as much as a trip to WDW, and we don't stay as long. We don't use our points at the Disneyland hotels since it's so much more expensive (point wise) to stay there.

If there were a DVC at the Disneyland Resort, we would definitely add on.

As a West Coaster and someone who's been to DL enough to be able to walk through it blindfolded, I definitely hope they put in a DVC resort!!

If you haven't been, you really need to experience the "original magic"!

I will say that there seems to be a lot more of a DVC prescence at DLR then there was a year ago. A year ago if you asked for a DVC discout everyone - (and I mean everyone) looked at you with this blank look! It took over an hour to get our DVC Annual Pass discount! Ugh. This last trip (last month) we actually got a "Welcome Home" upon check in AND a spiffy new Portable Perks booklet!!!!
