Hint to DVC in California

As a far, far, far, West Coaster ( Hawaii :sunny: ) a DVC resort would be wonderful.

From past polls it is pretty clear that the demographics of majority of DVC owners is mid to east coast.

A DVC at DL would open up a huge market of potential buyers for DVC.

Like many, I have been to both. While I love WDW, we had a wonderful time at DL as well and really enjoyed CA.

I hope they open a DVC there soon and we will definitely go back to DL.

We've stayed at the DLH on points, and GCH with cash. We loved being at the original park, in the original lodgings, and knowing we were walking the same paths that Walt did (we're sentimental that way...we love visiting Phili and Boston to trace history too). While we loved the compact nature of DL and the whole DLR, we were taken aback by how small Sleeping Beauty's Castle seemed on first sight walking down Main Street compared to how much Cinderella's Castle dominates the view at MK.

The question this topic brings with it is whether a DLR DVC would be a flagship resort or a GCH villas. I'd love to see villas because of the dedicated entrance at GCH, which I'm guessing would sell-out faster to west coast residents based on size. However, a flagship would make more sense if DVD is really wanting to make an impact. Who knows? With all the rumors floating around the past few months, we might be seeing four new additions on Oct 1 (CRV, VAKL, GCV, and a DLR flagship resort). Heck, they may even tell us Eagle Pines is a go! ;)

Would not surprise me. During my recent trip everyone I encountered from front desk to GM's said DVC is the hottest thing Disney has right now. There was a advertisement for them in my AAA magazine.

We definetly want to go to DLR at some point. Our DS is only 2 and I'd rather he be a little older for the length of the plane ride. Anyway that would be soooo cool to have a DVC resort to go stay in!!!! I'm all for it!! :)

I'm another west coast gal that would love a DVC in CA. I've actually been feeling guilty because lately we've been going to WDW all the time and are really starting to miss DL. It would be perfect to be able to alternate between the two. :thumbsup2

Remember DL is the only park that Walt built. Roy built MK as Walt died shortly after the announcement of the Florida project.

Here is what we like about DL:

Compact: A very walkable resort with both parks, DD and the hotels all an easy stroll

New Orleans Square: Just a remarkably well conceived area of the park

Ride differences: Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain and Small World are unique and in some ways better than the versions at WDW

DL only rides: While the technology is at WDW (dinosaur at AK) the Indy Jones ride at DL is superb and before EE at AK it was the best themed queue at the US parks

GC: a hotel experience on par with AK and WL at WDW

And although not DL specific you are close enough to zip down to Escondido to spend a day or two at Wild Animal Park -- even better than the San Diego or SF zoos.

We have been fortunate to enjoy Disney on both coasts and heartily recommend each for what each offers.

I could not agree with you more! I am actually from CA and grew up going to DL, I did not go to WDW until 2 years ago when I moved here. It is hard to compare 4 parks to 2 that is true, however when I first went to MK I was SO disapointed (the layout at MK, the rides etc) You have to be open minded enough to give DL a chance, it was the first park, the one that Walt built, something that WDW (which was built a lot by Eisner) will never be.

Just my two cents.

I agree the layout is better at DL, but overall I think the "similar" attractions are better at MK.
I would NEVER be disappointed with MK!

Out of curiosity, I know Walt built and walked in DL and died before WDW opened.
My question, do you know how much of Walt's planning and design made it into MK?

Thanx... :smokin:

We live an hour's drive from DLR,and would love to use our points at a DVC there. We could have some nice birthday,or holiday celebrations there. I love to cook, so it would be easy to bring all the groceries for certain recipes that we like for special homemade dinners etc. Not to mention having a place for family or friends to stay there with us, or in their own unit.
The only downside I can envision, is having a contract there, and trying to book major holidays at the 11 month window, and not getting a room. I bet it would be THAT popular.

I've been thinking for a while they may announce three (AKL, CR and DL), maybe not all on Oct.1 but in fairly rapid pace. I have wondered about what type of DVC they would put in at DL but since I have never been there have no clear thoughts. A lot of DVC at DL is based on what they can do.

Yes, there is limited space on property at DLR, that is why I think I want a contract there for the 11 month window. The 3 Disney hotels there have been booking at 98% capacity every day for the last year.

I've been to DL a couple of times and really enjoy the compact nature of the parks. It makes it extremely easy to go back and forth between the parks and the hotels, without spending hours on buses! Also, since it is smaller it is much easier on your feet!

Personally, I think going for the Nightmare overlay at the HM is worth the trip... well... that and Space Mountain! Wow, what a difference... I also really enjoy the New Orleans Square area and am a fan of DCA. I agree with MG that the Aladdin show is one of the best! I'm also a big fan of CA Screamin'.

Now, I don't really think that I would enjoy spending more than 2-3 days at DL/DCA, but it makes for a nice few days of a longer vacation to be split between there at San Diego or LA. If a DVC were to be built in CA I'd most likely try it out (depending on the point requirements), but in some cases it could be hard to justify with the number of reasonably priced hotels within walking distance to the front gates. To me, staying in a Disney property at DLR does have as much benefit as it does at WDW. I absolutely love the GC, but it's hard for me to justify spending 4-5x more per night than the nearby off-site locations.

I would love a CA DVC! We love the parks at both coasts for different reasons. DLR will always be my favorite since I have many more memories there than WDW. We get more accomplished in a day at DLR than WDW due to the size and locations of the parks.

If the DVC were "The Grand Californian Villas", I would first in line to buy.
Some other hotel off-shoot or stand alone, I'm not so sure about. :smokin:

I'd be fighting you for the first spot in line.

You would have to get in line behind us :goodvibes

We are new DVC members and our first use of points is to go to DL in May. I  DL. Our first trip to WDW will be in Sept next year. We plan on splitting our vacations between DL and WDW, going to each once a year (assuming the vaction Gods smile on us :goodvibes ) :rotfl:

It would be funny to have addonitis before our first stay ever as DVC member :rotfl2:

Well.. it happened to me. Heck, I hadn't even gotten my member info in the mail and I had already called about doing an add-on... :confused3

I can totally understand where you are coming from and I LOVE WDW too, but have you actually ever been to DL? :confused3 These sound like second hand descriptions of what others might think. :guilty: I don't think that you can really judge DL unless you actually go there. I love DCA :cheer2: And DL MK cannot even be compared to MK at WDW. Head over to the DL boards and I think you would be amazed at how many people are prepared to not like DL compared to WDW and just about every one of them love DL.

Plus - we get the good weather :rotfl2:

Your point is well taken, and I understand you totally. But people need to make decisions on what their tastes are, don't you think? WDW has what suits me. It has an overwhelming amount of things for adults with no kids, great resorts, so many great places to eat you can't possibly hit them all, and it is much closer to me. Add that to the fact that the value of DVC points, and choices of where to stay are so much more advantageous, that I can not ever imagine going to California.

My point is, I know what I like. I don't go to WDW and rush onto the Haunted Mansion, or even walk into Fantasyland for that matter. I get excited by the World Showcase, Animal Kingdom, and the amazing resorts. It's just me. I'm also told that Coast Rica is a great place to visit, but I have no interest in that either. I'm not someone who doesn't know what is there. I've read just about every Disney book in print, seen all the DVD's and so on. From what I see, DL doesn't have an appeal to me.

I would LOVE a DVC in CA!! I went in 1999 and really enjoyed both parks. I really didn't try to compare it to WDW, because it's not meant to be. They're different parks and different experiences.

I would definately use my points for a visit out there, because I want to ride the Matterhorn! When we went it was closed for refurbishing.
