Hi Everyone:

Has anyone stayed a night or two at disneys hilton head resort. How did they like it. We are thinking of shortening our drive and spending a night there.

If so approximately how long does it take to drive from wdw resort to hilton head?

Thanks

Deb.

Hi-
My husband and I stayed at HHI last July for 5 nights.
We really liked it there..very relaxing.
We are heading back this June.

I think it's a bit over 300 miles from WDW but can't tell you exactly.

If you post this in the Vacation Club section, you might get more responses. :)

One thing to remember is that it is about a 35 to 45 minute drive off of I95 to the resort depending on the day of the week/time of the day sort of thing. HH DVC is a great resort. You have the benefits of the a beach house a mile and half away but at the resort itself you feel like you are miles from everything.

I used to live on HHI at Shelter Cove (overlooking the resort). Didnt look too exciting (nothing like the real deal-the beach house isnt bad though) but for one night its ok. Shelter Cove is right over the bridge-you can walk. Some nice shops there and a few restaurants. Lots of good eats on the island-let me know what you like and I can throw out some places.

I just did the drive last month (dad and I went and his place is on the beach in Palmetto Dunes-right across from Disney). It took me a good 5 hours (plus time for gas and food). Its about an hour to I95, little over an hour to Jacksonville, and around 3 to the island. Great cheap place for gas is exit 3 in GA. FL gas is a rip off. Theres also places to eat there (Cracker Barrell and fast food). I95 is a mess the whole way-tons of construction so it may slow you down even more. My construction loving son was in heaven and all I heard about was Bob, Bob, Bob (he loves Bob the Builder and construction equipment).

We live in Georgia and we like to occasionally go up to Disney's HHI resort when we have a long weekend and there is a good discount available (we are not DVC owners). We have always highly enjoyed our stays there. The villas really are nice--very spacious with nice amenities. The whole resort has a very relaxing feel to it. There are hammocks spread throughout the resort, you can rent bikes to go for a ride, and there are even places to play horseshoes as well. It's a great place for a relaxing short stay in our opinion. :)

Thanks, we have a 22 hour drive home to Ontario, so we thought this would break the long sad drive home, just somewhere to relax and go out and eat. We are easy, chinese, pizza, roadhouse, anything like that.

This construction on 95 is it from south carolina til the cut off for orlando/wdw? We are driving mid april, do you think it will be done by then?

Thanks,

Deb.

The construction should still be there mid April. Sorry.
I stop off there all the time on my way back and forth to Disney. It just stretches out the Disney magic for us. It's about 30 minutes from Exit 5 off 95 to the resort, but worth the effort.

The length of the drive, about 300 miles, can vary in real time, depending on season of the year. Summers Hilton Head can get very bogged down in traffic...you really have to hit it right. Also, try not to hit Hilton Head after dark, because getting your bearings is difficult at night...until you've gotten the lay of the land. Signage is very tasteful and unobtrusive aka hard to notice and blends into the foliage in spots! LOL!

Our first time on the island we drove in circles for an hour looking for a recommended restaurant...we finally gave up because we couldn't find it. It was raining a bit so that was part of the problem, contributing to low visibility when driving there at night.

As for DVC on HHI...it's wonderful. The kids program is very good, like summer camp, educational but also a lot of fun. It's the real deal...an authentic, nature-lovers paradise! Go for it! :sunny:

We spent the night there Friday a week ago. When we left the resort, we checked the mileage and it was 20.5 miles off I-95. It is hard to find in the dark if you have never been there before, only because everything looks alike.

Thanks for the advice.

During our first drive to disney about l4 yrs ago, stopping the first night on the road my husband did the driving circle for about half an hour trying to get to our hotel in west virginia. We laugh about that now, cause when you know the directions it is so clear.
