Hilton Head Refurbishment

We will be there in two weeks and have an infant so we really need to be on the first floor or have an elevator. Do we call the front desk and request? I didn’t see anything on the check in to request it
For our requests at Hilton Head, I always Email MS.
What size villa have you reserved? At HH, if it's a 2 BR, even the first floor is a flight of stairs up. The only way you can get an elevator with a 2 BR is if you reserved a HA villa.

Just called and requested ground floor or an elevator building. We have a studio

They are so much easier to deal with than wdw lol

Remember - first floor at HH is NOT ground floor - you still have to go up a flight of stairs..

Got it. This is our first trip to HH so didn’t know that. That is good to know for our planning though

There are 21 studios at HHI and 16 of them are in the main building (Live Oak Lodge) which has an elevator. It is also the furthest from the pool, recreation desk, community hall and CS restaurant. There are 5 additional studios scattered throughout the remainder of the resort so your chances of getting your request for a building with an elevator are pretty good, but your location may be less-than-desirable. On the bright side, the resort is pretty compact so it is a short walk to pretty much everywhere. You will LOVE the resort:lovestruc.

And just to add, those 5 other studios are all on the first floor, which, as someone pointed out, is NOT the ground floor-the first floor requires a flight of stairs. So you have a 16/21 chance of getting a studio that uses an elevator, and only a 5/21 chance of getting a studio that requires walking up a flight of stairs. These same odds are for a one bedroom also.

Call the number on the dhhir cash website and you can put in your request.
If you have a studio or 1 bed, they may can put you in building 11/12 with elevator.
Yes definitely call and request Building 11 or 12 so you will have access to an elevator. There are no rooms on the first floor as the buildings are built to avoid flooding. If you aren't in Building 11 or 12, you will have to climb one flight of stairs.

Oops. I didn't see all the posts after. I'm glad you were able to request a room with elevator access. Enjoy HHI!!!

So I just got my Disney Files magazine today. I noticed this quote about DHHIR in the refurbishment section:
“This summer, crews will begin refurbishing The Live Oak Lodge lobby…”
This makes me wonder if they will go ahead and refurbish the rooms in the lodge while they are refurbishing the lobby. It goes against what I had been told about the refurbishment starting at the back of the resort.

Who knows at this point? Disney is never very forthcoming about how they go about doing a project such as this. I think the back of the resort option grew out of the fact they had already done two rooms in Bldg 30, so why not just continue from there? Frankly, there's nothing to say they can't start on both ends, nor is it out of the realm of possibility they redo the lobby (and likely Big Murggie's Den) as a standalone project in the Live Oak Lodge while they do the refurb of rooms elsewhere. Guess we'll find out soon enough!

I hope they do. We've always asked for a 1 BR in Live Oak Lodge for the elevator. Not sure what's happening this Thanksgiving and if it were done first, I'd breathe easier.

Where did you hear this?
The Disney Files magazine said they are beginning in the Live Oak Lodge "this summer."

The cash website says the refurb is beginning "July 2023."

Who knows what is actually going to happen, but we are visiting this weekend and Labor day. So we will update if seen.

Checked in yesterday and there is definitely no construction happening at the moment

Someone posted this on the main HHI thread as well but availability is back this morning. They must have a better idea of the timeline now.
Yay! Part of me feels better about our scheduled trip in November, and possibly being able to reserve in April.
My only disappointment is that the article in Disney Files emphasized that it's a SOFT GOODS refurbishment. When we were there a year ago, the sofa in the living room was unusable. If DH tried to sit on it, he'd slide forward onto the floor. We didn't complain, figuring it would get replaced. It better not be there this year!

If by soft goods they mean pulling out all the old furniture, lamps, rugs, wall treatments, and curtains, then repainting, updating the interior, adding new furniture, lamps, etc., and replacing the cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom (getting rid of the jetted tubs), then okay. pirate:

That's not the way I read it, they said that only soft things would change, no furniture.
But I hope you're right, and the article I read was hopefully wrong.
