Hilton Head or Vero Beach in March?

Our spring break is in late March. We haven't been to either Hilton Head or Vero Beach and would love to try them. HH is closer, and less expensive for the accommodations, so I am tempted to go there, but a little worried that there may not be enough activities for us and DS, 11. Can you see many dolphins in the spring? We don't have to swim in the ocean, but would like to be able to "wade" a bit and hang out there -- it should be warm enough for that, hopefully?

We love nature, walking and biking, so do you think that this would be a good trip for us at that time of year?

I also curious about Hilton Head in late March as well. I just booked us there for the last week during our kids spring break also. Fred, if you end up booking that week, let me know. My DS will be 12 when we travel so maybe our boys can meet up.

We've been many times in July (heading there next month :teeth: ) but have plans to do something different next summer. We figured it's not going to be the same as summer, but there hopefully will be enough to keep us entertained for the week (DH& I could do nothing and would be fine with that -- not sure the kids are up to that much relaxation). We will still plan on shark fishing, if offered. and probably a dolphin tour as well.

In 5 years of going to HH, we've never gone into Savannah. We drove through Charleston one year on the way home. So, our plan is to branch out a bit and do some of the other things in the area if the kids get antsy.

We've been to HHI 3 times in March, and love the same things as you named. IMHO, March is ideal for those! We've seen Dolphins both on the boat Dolphin Tour, as well as "in the wild", in the marsh in back of the resort and also among the yachts over on the marina side. For nature walking (we're birders so we love it), don't miss Sea Pines Nature Preserve. There are several entrances, and the one by the school is most likely to have Preserve maps. Great hiking trails!

I think the average daily temperatures for both HH & VB are relatively close in the summer, but in March VB is a bit warmer. :sunny: :beach:

Hilton Head daily averages in March:

High - 69 Low - 47 Average water temp - 59 (too chilly for me to get in!) :lmao:

Vero Beach:

High - 77 Low - 59 Could not find water temperature. Sorry.

I have done my spring breaks at both HH and VB. My breaks are always mid-late March. My experience is that HH is iffy as far as the weather - one year it never got above 50 (might have been a fluke), but that VB is always warm. You will notice on the DVC point charts that all of March at VB (most years) is in the Premier season, and that HH most years is in the Choice season. That says something about the weather, in my opinion.
