I am trying to decide where to use my points next October and am thinking about Hilton Head.

What is Hilton Head like in October? How are the crowds? Most importantly, is it still warm enough to swim at the pool and the beach?

If the weather allows, we would probably spend a couple of hours each day at the pool or beach and the rest of the day exploring the area or just relaxing. Let me know your opinions!

Since school is back in crowds will be low. The snowbirds aren't all heading back either. Lots of restaurants do early bird dining (like before 5 or around 5) where you can get small portioned apt, meal, dessert and drink for lower prices. Weather will still be nice (not super hot and humid like the summer) and the ocean will probably still be warm enough to enjoy (heck northerners think the water is warm in January!).

As for exploring, you've got Savannah down the road and Charleston a couple of hours north. On HHI there are lots of neat little shops all the way up to the outlet malls where you can get some great deals. Lots of great places to eat (from chains to unique).

Be sure to pick up the coupon books and guides at area stores (ie grocery, shops). They have ideas about what to do, where to eat, and discounts. Be sure you know where you are going because things are not marked well with signs (town ordinance). When I lived there, the biggest complaint locals had was the tourists not knowing where they were going or didnt know how to navigate the traffic circles. I lived in Shelter Cove right next to the Dis property. Dad still lives on the island. Shelter Cove is full of little shops, tour boats, and a few restaurants. Great place to walk around at night.

IMO, Hilton Head will be great in October, low crowds and weather should be about perfect. I say "book it"and have a great time.:cool1::banana:

We regularly go to HH in October. Weather is variable. Since 2003, we've seen highs for our five days ranging from 84 one year to 54 one year. The place gets busy around the Columbus Day holiday and just before Halloween. Otherwise it has not been really crowded. We have noticed that it seems to be a bit fuller in October each year, probably as there are more total DVC points in the system, so more none HH owners are trying HH.

We enjoy being at HH in October. The beach is generally nice mid-day. By 4 PM it is getting cool.

The Beachhouse food place closes early in October. Sometimes there is good entertainment in the marina, other times it empty.
