DH and I are planning our first visit to Hilton Head in 2006. We are debating whether to go at the end of March and stay in a 1 bedroom or wait until May/June and stay in a studio. Since this is our first time in the area we plan on doing some sightseeing and possibly taking a day trip to Savannah.

What is the weather typically like at the end of March? Also, is this mostly a beach resort which should be done during the summer months? Your thoughts and feedback would be greatly appreciated :flower:

I have been in mid March and it was cold and wet. Others have said that March is great. If you love the beach, then the ocean will definitely be warmer in May/June. The later you go in the summer, the more crowded it is and the humidity is worse. But it is still wonderful! Out of the two seasons you mentioned, I would take May (not as hot as June, but warmer than March). As a teacher, I always go in June, but I am looking forward to trying other times when I retire in 2 years.

The end of March is a great time to visit HHI especially if you golf.Temperature will probably be in 70's to low 80's.Pools are heated but ocean probably too cold except for very hardy but great time to walk on beach. Spring and fall are best times for HHI unless you are just love heat and humidity then it is great for beach. We love HHI all times of year. Our favorite time is Thanksgiving. Plenty to do in HH and Savannah.Have great St.Patricks Day Celebration in Savannah. things to do -nature walk at resort, dolphin cruise, relax, shop, eat and enjoy.

We've been to HHI in March and will again this year. First, having been in both a studio and a 1 BR, I'd recommend the 1 BR-they're so great. As far as the weather is concerned, last time we were there in March, the weather was beautiful. No rain, temps in high 70's, low 80's all week. Then the last day (as we left the island), it started raining, and from what I hear it was cold and rainy for all of the following week. So who knows? But since I'd definitely vote for that one BR, and since I just love HHI anytime, I'd suggest March.

I spend a lot of time in HH and would pick June, mainly because the ocean is so much warmer. Do you like to frolic in the water? Go boogie boarding? If so, go with June. It gets more crowded as the month goes on; July 4th is the busiest week of the entire summer. IMO, it won't matter if you are only in a studio---there are so many great restaurants in HH you won't miss the kitchen. Plus, you still have the microwave and refrigerator for leftovers.

It all depends on what you plan to do there. March is VERY hit or miss on weather. You could end up with terrific 70's-80's, or rainy high 60's. But if you want to golf, fish, walk the beach, enjoy the restraunts, ride bikes etc.. that would be my pick for time as the area isn't as crowded, everything is open, and generally mild temperatures.

If however you want to hit the water, boogie board etc, and golfin' isn't really important, then I would go June. I have been there in May with temps in low 70's and rainy for days on end so it is hit-miss as well. Can you get a studio for that time? They can usually be pretty hard to get then.

I just booked the last week of August 28, 2005 6 nights. This begins the new season for this resort. Will this change the activities at the resort? Is there any changes that will I regret not going during the peak times? I like the beach and swiming at the pool so the heat should not be a problem.

The activities will be basically the same as during the peak times, but perhaps just not offered as often. I'm not sure when the Shelter Cove fireworks stop for the season...I think they go up till Labor Day weekend, but don't quote me on that. ;)

We go this week and/or the week just prior. Yes, a few things may not be offered, fireworks among them. Some CM's head back to college that week so one or two kid activities may also be curtailed.

We flip back and forth with this week. Sometimes we appreciate things just a bit quieter that last week. Weather wise, it will be nice and hot, don't worry.

Hubby and I took May.... We are going this May... unfortunately we had to cancel our December trip to Disneyworld and are using our points for a trip to Hilton Head.... I think it will be great! :teeth:
