Hilton Head lovers....

Irish dancer- Do you teach irish step dancing? I have 2 neices that step dance and my husband is a bag piper.

Thanks for bumping this thread! I forgot I had posted the question - memory not what it used to be and all that, lol.

Well, we're going! We'll be there March 10 - 14, as we journey south on our 'life after work' adventure.

Thanks! We are going for the first time this year and can't wait for a relaxing trip!

Woot! Nice to see my thread is still being useful!! My kids are now... 8,7, and 4 lol

I am sad, this will be our first year skipping a July in HH since we became members! Of course we are doing DLR in June and WDW in Aug, but we are still going to miss our week in heaven!

Thanks for starting this thread. We became dvc members Oct 07, our home is AKV. Had too many points to use and decided to try HH. We are going with 6 yr DD, and 4 yr DS this August for 7 days. Did not know what to do or expect. Love all the great suggestions and now am excited.

I discovered HHI in 2004 after we became members and for us we have to go at least once a year. Its about a 6 hour drive, and our favorite beach.

We will be in HH May 3-9 and are very excited!! How is the weather in may? Does anyone have an activity sheet from May of last year you can post?

We just returned from a 10 day 13 people family gathering at WDW. The quiet of HH sounds so good!

Because we live in Minnesota, we hate to be gone in the summer, that's when it is so nice to live here and truly enjoy the lakes that we drive just on in the winter ;) . We will be at -10 degrees tonight with -45 windchills tonight. :guilty:

We were thinking about spring break next year (late March).

Couple of questions (in bold so you don't miss them!:

I'm not clear on the fireworks and such, will they be going on since it is spring break?

Will it be really crowded?

How is HH different than VB? I've asked this all over the place and no one answers this question. Is it because people either do one or the other?

I love, love the idea of planning nothing each day. As you can imagine, in planning the GG a few weeks ago, it took over a year of intensive planning (did I mention one group of people didn't know the other group was coming to WDW?)! I'd love to sit on a chair and read while the kids play in the sand for a change!

Also, a question about golf. My husband is quite good, my son is just learning, he'll be 10 by then and plays on summer leagues. Would he be able to play with my DH or is it too expensive or not allowed?

I can answer a few of your questions. I have no idea how HH compares to VB, though, since I've never been to VB.
Fireworks-I've never seen any fireworks during spring break time. I don't think those start up until June.
Golf-I'm pretty sure your DS will be allowed to play. When DS was 10, he was turned away at a course on Cape Cod because of his age and DH was so mad, he's never fogotten it. Although DH has always played alone at HHI, I think he would have mentioned (in anger) if he noticed any course with that rule. I can't check with him now since he's out....golfing! By far the most expensive course on the Island is Harbourtown. I think next expensive is the Sea Marsh course (I think that's the name) that's also in Sea Pines. The three courses very near the resort, in Palmetto Dunes, are very good, convenient, and relatively inexpensive. Those were among the best DH has played, and he's golfed at 8 different courses on the island (yes, as someone teased him, "you golf too much!").

Will it be really crowded?

I can't speak about the resort, but HHIsland will not be really crowded at spring break, and March is one of my favorite times to be on the Island. The weather can be iffy, but typically it's in the 60s. Some of the flowers will be in bloom. Also, the restaurants will not be packed as they are in the summer.

I am proposing a future trip to HHI to my girlfriends and would like to gather as much information as possible. How many have taken day trips to Savannah?

We have been to Savannah several times. It's a fun day-trip. Another fun little town to visit is Beaufort, SC. It's about a 45-minute drive from the Island. It's on the water; has lots of shops and restaurants and carriage tours. Several movies have been filmed there including portions of Forrest Gump, I believe.

Great! Thanks. The girls will love that.

Hi all HH lovers! My DH and I are headed back to HH next weekend for a golf break and to escape this MN winter. Our last visit to HH DVC was in Feb 2004. My husband is trying to decide whether to bring his laptop along so I have a question for those who have visited recently - do they now have high speed internet access at the resort? They didn't in '04 and we had to find an internet cafe to send some emails. I thought I read that the Piggly Wiggly is still around - is that true? I hope the 70 degree forecasts on weather.com hold. It sounds like heaven compared to here, LOL! Thanks for any input and can't wait to see the resort again. Sunsets over the marsh, Old Oyster Factory, beach house, sand beaches and more!:yay:

We were there in September and there is free wi-fi in the 2 main common areas (pool area abd lobby). Here is a tip though. We stayed in the floor above the lobby and I was able to pick up a signal from there so that was a nice bonus! :goodvibes

Going back in April for Spring Break. Can't wait!

Yes, Piggly Wiggly is still open, plus they've upgraded a bit.

As noted, there is wifi at the pool and also in Big Murgies Den. Finally!!!

My question about the wireless has just been answered. DH, myself and 2 friends will also be at HHI from Easter Monday through Friday. We also plan a day trip to Savannah (maybe two - just how far is it?) and Beaufort sounds great too. If anyone has any suggestions for 4 adults (besides golf), I'm all ears! We're BW owners and have never been to HHI.

Have any of you been to Lady and Sons? Is it as hard to get in as I've heard? We do plan to line up early, but don't know how large the place is.

We're so looking forward to this!

TIA - Kathy

We are coming in on March 22nd for the week for Easter and Spring Break.

So excited. Just hope the weather turns out good since Spring Break is early this year.

Our plans are to : rent bikes (like always), visit Signe's rest. , Salty Dog, hopefully have enough money to do dolphin cruise b/k we've always wanted to do one. , fish a little, eat at San Migels (although not that crazy over the food but love sitting outside and listening to the music and having a margarita, shopping, eating at Giuseppie's , our nice night out to eat will be at Santa Fe...we loved that place... a night w/out the kids. , hopefully play a little volleyball in the beach pool if it's warm enough, maybe take a day trip to Savannah, look for Shadow of course, and RELAX.... can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!

Any other suggestions? We've done the magic show, ghost tales, etc. before so I don't know if they change. We may do the campfire again this time!:cool1:

oh, how i pray for good weather ... :worship:
