Hilton Head lovers....

We are coming in on March 22nd for the week for Easter and Spring Break.

So excited. Just hope the weather turns out good since Spring Break is early this year.

Our plans are to : rent bikes (like always), visit Signe's rest. , Salty Dog, hopefully have enough money to do dolphin cruise b/k we've always wanted to do one. , fish a little, eat at San Migels (although not that crazy over the food but love sitting outside and listening to the music and having a margarita, shopping, eating at Giuseppie's , our nice night out to eat will be at Santa Fe...we loved that place... a night w/out the kids. , hopefully play a little volleyball in the beach pool if it's warm enough, maybe take a day trip to Savannah, look for Shadow of course, and RELAX.... can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!

Any other suggestions? We've done the magic show, ghost tales, etc. before so I don't know if they change. We may do the campfire again this time!:cool1:

oh, how i pray for good weather ... :worship:

We'll be there then too, our first time though. We check in on Easter and will be there through Friday.

We plan to rent bikes, do the campfire, dolphin cruise, hoping it will be warm enough to swim, try some of the kids activities, try and eat at Lady and Sons in Savannah, and relax too!

Really hoping for warm, especially after the winter we've had.

Ah, this is great!

Dh is planning a golfing/b day trip for him and his buddies! Looking forward to reading all these posts!

A golf review (with the name of the course, naturally) would be really appreciated. Hope he has a good time!

Oh...well this isnt happening til 2010!! lol...THis was one of my "selling" points to DH when trying to sway him into DVC......

My question about the wireless has just been answered. DH, myself and 2 friends will also be at HHI from Easter Monday through Friday. We also plan a day trip to Savannah (maybe two - just how far is it?) and Beaufort sounds great too. If anyone has any suggestions for 4 adults (besides golf), I'm all ears! We're BW owners and have never been to HHI.

Have any of you been to Lady and Sons? Is it as hard to get in as I've heard? We do plan to line up early, but don't know how large the place is.

We're so looking forward to this!

TIA - Kathy

We had lunch at Lady and Sons about 3 years ago. The restaurant is large, with two floors and it was a very popular spot the day we went. We lined up and got in within an hour or so. We were a party of four. We all had the buffet for about 12 or 13 dollars and it was good, Southern style food - fried chicken, mac and cheese, sweet tea, cornbread, etc. My daughter wants to go back on our trip to HH next weekend, but I want to try Mrs. Wilkes. Anyone been there?

We just returned from a 10 day 13 people family gathering at WDW. The quiet of HH sounds so good!

Because we live in Minnesota, we hate to be gone in the summer, that's when it is so nice to live here and truly enjoy the lakes that we drive just on in the winter ;) . We will be at -10 degrees tonight with -45 windchills tonight. :guilty:

We were thinking about spring break next year (late March).

Couple of questions (in bold so you don't miss them!:

I'm not clear on the fireworks and such, will they be going on since it is spring break?

Will it be really crowded?

How is HH different than VB? I've asked this all over the place and no one answers this question. Is it because people either do one or the other?

I love, love the idea of planning nothing each day. As you can imagine, in planning the GG a few weeks ago, it took over a year of intensive planning (did I mention one group of people didn't know the other group was coming to WDW?)! I'd love to sit on a chair and read while the kids play in the sand for a change!

Also, a question about golf. My husband is quite good, my son is just learning, he'll be 10 by then and plays on summer leagues. Would he be able to play with my DH or is it too expensive or not allowed?

I will try to answer a question or two. Will it be crowded in March? I would say not really. It's not beach season yet and it can be cool and rainy. The Disney resort itself fills up for the Easter weeks, regardless of the weather. From Easter on, the resort is usually full until October.

What is the difference between Vero and Hilton Head?

Layout for one - Disney has a small checkin, with a small den for sitting and visiting or playing pool. Rooms are up the outside stairs in the main lodge. It's cosy. You walk in the checkin area and the CM's are right there and if they are not checking someone in, they chat. It's like family. There's a little table with coffee or lemonade or cider depending on the time of day or time of year. At 3 there's a little plate of cookies to go with it. The rest of the resort is in different buildings, with paths connecting all to the pool and a central recreation area, where you go to community hall (above the rental area and pingpong tables), the resort eatery - Tide Me Over - which really says it all - don't expect to want to eat here all the time! The store is next to Tide me over and it is small - just a few grocery and gift items. Say Hi to Chef Gordon - he often is in here. The marsh is right here with a walkway out to a fishing pier - you've seen the pictures I'm sure. Several buildings cluster around the pool and if you are like me and take your coffee to the veranda early in the morning, the pool guy will talk to you as he cleans. The birds will fly high in the live oak trees, that are covered in spanish moss. It's idyllic. You are on a tiny little island and you can pretend that you are away from it all despite just being a stone's throw from the traffic of 278. The beach is another little world - a mile away which is walkable, but you can drive or get shuttled. The beach has a beach house with all the facilities you need to be comfortable and sand free after walking or swimming at the actual beach. Food, pool bar and a small pool. A few games for the kids. A quiet lounge area with air conditioning and a tv for me or Grandma:wizard: :). You can leave the sand here and go back to your villa nice and clean and comfy. I love it!
The town itself - everything is right here! Tons of restaurants, minigolf and real golf, movies, library, shopping, theater, and most of all - Nature! Go to Coastal Discovery Museaum and find out about the area and what it really means. Check out the little tourist visitors center down stairs and find out what's happening on HH. It's not a dull place. It's full of culture and opportunities to be involved.

Vero - I love it here also. The beach is right at your doorstep, but it's not the wide one that HH has. But how much sand do I really need? VB has enough to satisfy me. The view of the ocean is what it has and that is remarkable! When I'm at Vero, it is always such a vibrant blue, like a postcard - I can sit and look at it all day, so long as you keep my coffee cup or wineglass filled. The resort lobby is large and beautiful! It has a back porch to sit and rock on and it looks out to sea. There is a staircase to the second floor and the Green Cabin room for a bit of nightlife. Full service restaurant, pool, tennis courts - it has the more all inclusive feel. The beach cottages - what a nice luxury - within the reach of all of us. The turtles - HH is a nesting area also, hence the signage and dim lighting, but Vero is themed around the sea turtles and orange groves. We participated in a turtle walk one night in July with the local park rangers, where they watch for the turtles to come out of the sea and lay their eggs. Amazing! These are resorts Disney style, where you are not there just to sleep, but to be surrounded and immersed in what the areas are and the cultures. Either one is wonderful, and especially for kids, because they are kid friendly. But not made just for kids - made for adults also. For me, I go to HH most - it's a lot closer to Maryland.

We will be there Aug 11-15th,Myself, DH, DS11, DS9, DBIL, DSIL, DN9, DN6, & DN3. We are so excited, it looks to be such a wonderful place to meet up with family and enjoy life and each other! :grouphug: :thumbsup2 Probably never would have known to go had we not joined DVC a few months ago and I became obsessed with DIS!! Hope some other DISSERS will be joining us!:goodvibes Thank-you, everyone, for all your enthusiasm!

We did Mrs. Wilkes a few years ago. Got there about when they opened so we didn't have to wait too long, but when we left there was a lonnnnngg line. The food was served family style. We sat with a bunch of other people. Interesting southern dishes. It was good, but don't think I'd do it again. Would love to try Lady and Sons, but hubbie isn't into food and waiting in line that long probably would be too popular with him :).

I called today to find out what activities will be going on during Easter week. On Easter there is going to be a brunch from 10:30 till 2:00 at the Beach house. The cost is $23.95 for adults and children 3-9 $14.95. During this time there also will be face painting and Easter crafts. At noon they are also having a party with a DJ. At 3:00 there will be an EAster egg hunt at the resort. Monday is the kids night out with pizza and going to the movies. Wednesday and Friday will be the campfires with smores. All the tours and programs listed on the web site will also be offered. The guy from recreation also said they would be making Mickey Tie Dye shirts ad character pillows.

This will be my families first trip to Hilton Head and we are really looking forward to it.

We would love making the tie dye shirts! We will be there part of the next week -- did the rec guy say this was a regular activity? I hope that is an option while we are there. :yay:

Thanks so much for this info!! We just decided to leave Chicago Fri night and drive straight through so we'll be there Sat afternoon rather than arriving Sun. It will be fun to have these activities!

The tie-dyed shirts are so! COOL!!! Hope that you get to make them!

Does anyone know of the best place to rent bikes? I see that there are serveral places on the island to rent from. Any of them better than others or do you just rent them from DVC? Thanks for the help. Trying to get our last minute planning out of the way. This time next week we will be heading south. We are staying Friday & Saturday night in Savannah and checking in on Easter sunday at HH.

It may depend on how many bikes you're renting and for how long. We haven't done it yet but from my research it will be cheaper for us to get them from DVC. Their prices were $50 for 2 bikes for the length of stay and $10 for each addt'l bike. The off-site places I priced were a per bike charge so for us needing 5 bikes it works out better through DVC.

The tie dye shirts are wonderful, and when we did them, it was at the beach house.

My biggest tip for everyone.. The NANOSECOND you arrive, head down to the Activity window and sign up for some of the harder to get things... Dolphin cruise, Tee shirts, Kids night out.

UnBirthday Party you can only sign up for the day before (and they fill up fast too)

Disney rents out bikes, and I think they have a list of other co. that rent in the area, as they often run out of bikes. Biggest bike challenge for me... none of them have hand brakes (seems the rust in the ocean air)

OK- so, if we're arriving on Monday, Aug 11th, do you think everything will be filled up already?:sad1:

I have questions on Kids Nite Out....

First, do they really take the kids off-site to a regular theater? What do they do if there isn't anything playing that would be appropriate for younger kids?

Second, DS7 has autism, he is very high functioning and has done the kids clubs at WDW many times without a problem would this be something he can participate in?

I would say a lot of people do stay Sunday Through Thursdays, so there is a posiblity some things will be booked, but they do offer LOTS of things. The things that book up are the Dolphin cruise(member discount day first) and sometimes the mickey tie dyes (but the tie dyes can handle a lot of people so it doesnt book up right away)

They take the shuttle bus that takes you from the resort to the beach house, and the theater is a short way down the main road. There are normally TWO kids night out... One for the 6-9 or 10 crowd and another for teens. You can ask at the rec desk what movies they will be taking them too, and go from there.
