We're looking into going to Hilton Head next summer in June. We've been there lots of times and usually stay in the Forest Beach area. Need to do this bargain basement so is Forest Beach the cheapest place to rent on the island? Any other suggestions? We haven't priced this in about 4 years and man have the prices gone up according to VRBO. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you only concern is price, then Folly Field is cheaper. However, there' not much there other than condos, so you'd be doing a lot of driving.

Now, if you don't have to be oceanfront, you can find some good deals on VRBO in Shipyard. I found a condo at Brigantine Quarters that was about a 5 minute walk to the beach and a 5 minute or so bike ride (using the back private gate) to Coligny Circle. I liked the resort becasue it is small, and all the condos were renovated. It's a timeshare place, not individually owned units where one owner may have their place really nice and the nieghbor's place old and dumpy. Shipyard is a private plantation (can only get in if you are renting or own there), so the beaches are not as crowded. We had a great time, and I hope to make it back soon.

Well...........bargain basement and summertime in Hilton Head doesn't really go together. You will probably be looking at close to $200/night ballpark for a condo.
We go there every summer and absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE staying in Shipyard Plantation. We stayed at Waterside this year (which is owned by Spinnaker as well but outside the Shipyard gates) and it was wonderful be we really prefer Shipyard.
I agree with staying in the Coligny Plaza area because you really don't need to drive much (if at all). Our first 3 days we never even moved our vehicle just walked or rode bikes everywhere.
We own (timeshare) at Cottages at Shipyard, and have stayed at Egret Point and Carolina Club (love both). Other complexes within Shipyard are:
Southwind (both I and II)
Port 'O Call
Coral Reef
Colonnade Club
Evian
Spinnaker at Shipyard
Brigantine Quarters
and at least a few others I can't recall at the moment.
Shipyard Plantation is beautiful, serene and very well maintained and has something like 8 miles of paved bike paths (we bike 2x a day while there).
Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.
