My daughter is graduating from high school at the end of January, and we'd like to take some sort of trip to celebrate. She'll have a break from the end of January until the first week of April when she starts college courses. We are hoping for some sunshine (coming from the Willamette Valley, where Seasonal Affective Disorder is a real thing), and a trip that is fun, but not so fun that our college aged son is too upset about being left behind (WDW, Hawaii, Caribbean, Europe, etc). We have always traveled together, so going somewhere without him will be a first. We could theoretically wait until Spring Break (last week of March) so our son could join, but then we are missing the opportunity to travel during a non-school break period for the first time in 15 years, and the winters are so overcast here that it would be nice to have a break of sun to look forward to closer to when she finishes school.
This is a very long winded way to ask if Hilton Head in February is fun and if there is enough to do to make it worth the time and expense of traveling from Oregon. Our only experiences on the East Coast have been a visit to Washington, DC and three trips to WDW, with a jaunt over to the Space Coast. I have no idea what to expect from Hilton Head, and wonder how it compares to a visit to the (very beautiful, but cold) Oregon Coast, and if HHI is more of a destination for road trippers and people nearby than those who require plane tickets.
Would love feedback. Thanks!
