My family and my parents will be staying at Hilton Head for the first time in March. We are so excited!:ccat: We normally stay at Vero and OKW so this is a fun change for us. Since we are unfamiliar with the resort layout I was wondering if any of you had suggestions regarding where would be a good location to request a 2 bedroom. We really would love to have a view of the marsh so we can watch the wildlife (the natural wildlife, that is :rotfl2: )

us too!!! we are going for a long weekend. would love to hear about the resort; however, i do see the thread on HH.:yay:

stayed at HH for the first time last summer. The beach house and the beach itself were wonderful! Our big mistake was staying in a studio. Our studio was nice and I loved our huge private deck that overlooked the marsh but there is one problem with staying at HH. You cannot get food or drinks on the property after 5:00 because they close!!! So if you want a beer after 5:00 make sure you have some in your room! If I had known this before I booked I would have booked a 1 bedroom. I just assumed like all the other DVC resorts that you could get food or drinks after 5:00. Silly me. There are several good restaraunts within walking distance though. I just wanted to let you guys know about this in advance. Other than this one little thing we loved HH and plan on going back again...in a 1 bedroom, with a full kitchen and a trip to the grocery store!

We just love this resort and after styaing there 3 times added on there to get 11 month window for summer(we are OKW owners since 1994). The resort is beautiful and the beach house and both pools are great. We even enjoy walking or biking the beach in the winter(we have spent 4 xmas weeks there). There are lots of activites for adults and kids. The marsh explorations are fun for kids. We like staying in building 29. It at the end of the resort, but you can sit on the porch and watch the kayakers, boats and even dolphins at the entrance to Shelter Cove. We have also stayed in the main lodge and its convenient (also have covered parking). The main lodge also has a fireplaced den with games and a pool table. This place is our relaxation vacation as opposed to park touring at WDW. We have enjoyed meals at Scott's Fish Market and King fisher at shelter cove, Gussieppis(at the shopping center next to shelter cove(pizza is good), Old Oyster Factory and Hudsons are our favorite seafood places. We are headed ther in August. Have fun!

I can't wait to read your Trip Report! We've never been there, but I would love to go. Maybe some spring Break we'll try to get in, but so far, this year and next year we already have booked with other plans.

Our most favorite location for a 2 bedroom was Building 31 -- down by the circle parking area. The year we stayed there, they had just cut down all the brush/trees in front of the balcony and we had and unobstructed view of the marsh.

With that being said, my "secret" spot is to sit at the very point of that same parking circle area in one of the lawn chairs provided next to the grill. It's so much nicer than sitting on our balcony because the boats go by, the people wave, the dolphins swim within feet of the lawn chair.

We have gone the last 6 summers in a row but this year, we're trying something a little different and going the end of March. It won't be as warm, hopefully it won't be humid like the summer months, but it's going to be great. I just know it!!

Everyone heading that way, have a great time!!!

I live on HHI! So when y'all come you need to stop at Barnes & Noble to visit me! IT's strange seing people talk about going on vacation in your town. If anyone has any questions about where to eat or what to do just ask. I've been here for a few years now. We want to buy DVC at HH soon, but we are saving our $$$. SO keep your fingers crossed and send some pixie dust my way!
As far as a March visit- the weather is best here in March/April/May. No humidity, no BUGS! WE had our wedding outdoors last year at the end of March and it was very cold that day. (in the 50's) So bring clothes for any type of weather. You can still enjoy the beach when its cool- (in fact it's better b/c they are virtually empty, just locals walking their dogs) THey have bike trails all over the island, which is nice if you enjoy riding bikes. THere are plenty of rental places too. I think you can rent a bike for a week for about $20. This is a great place for a very relaxing low key vacation. Just sit on the porch overlooking the marsh and dive into a great book! Can't wait to see you all in town!

Thanks for the locals input about the weather PottersMom! I have been to HH the week before Easter and it was lovely and I have been down end of March chilly for the locals, but great if you're from the Midwest. Trying to work DH into an Easter HH trip, well I have many years to do that!

Thanks... we'll be there in June. We don't really like seafood and strongly prefer casual dining... (beef) any suggestions? Thanks again.

Thanks everyone for your helpful advice. It has just got me more excited about going. :woohoo: Thankfully we will be driving so I can pack as much as I want. We normally go down to Vero Beach in January when the weather is very unpredictable so I know what that is like to need warm/cold weather clothes. Here is a little pixie dust for you, PottersMom, so that you can become a member :tink:

We are looking forward to our first trip to HH at the end of March. Counting the days! Thanks for all the great info.

How cool to have a local to help! We will be there at the beginning of March for a romantic week away from our son. We would love to go to a spa but don't know which one to go to. There is one that I believe has European in the name that has the massage I would like. Have you heard anything good about that one?

We just returned from our first trip to HH- loved it! It was for a long weekend and was very relaxing! Our friend and her daughter accompanied us (8 years old). Her DD loved the activities and we all ended up singing at the campfire. They saw a large school of dolphins at the beach, swam in the beach pool, used the arcade, shopped at a great thrift store (11 items for ten dollars), ate at Old Oyster Factory, beachcombed, lounged around, used the playground, listened to B'leu (spelling?) tell stories, and the CM at the mercantile gave 2 of us free HHI 10th anniversary CM pins!!
We arrived at night and it was tricky finding things (low lights and minimal signs all over the island) but had a beautiful marsh view from 2922 two bedroom. Room was in great shape and every CM we encountered was wonderful (Nathan rocked with the kids!).
We will definitely return. The local Piggly Wiggly has a great deli selection and is about 1 mile away so food was not a problem. It was chilly but clear so the weather worked for us.:)

MagikMom is right, food and drink options are limited on the resort itself. However, there are two quality full service restaurants with bars literally across the entrance bridge to the resort (Kingfisher and Scotts), which are arguable as close or closer than the restaurants in your typical WDW resort, especially of you do stay in studio (most of which are located in the Lodge or right next to it.)

We've stayed in both a studio and 1-br there. The kitchen is always nice, but with a car at HH, there is no reason to ever have to cook unless you want to since there are SO many good restaurants within a 15 minute drive. Plenty of options at HHI.
